I too have heard that the Field Turf isn't popular with soccer players -- I believe the complaint I heard was that it speeds up the game too much.

I usually don't care for what Sean Keeler writes, but this was an excellent piece on BV's SID
Nick Huber and the challenges he faces in his battle with ALS

There is a little different arrangement in Muscatine for Field Turf.  It was installed as the practice field.  Cost of around $850,000 sticks in my mind.  The field is extra long and extra wide to accomodate more than scrimmaging.  White lines for football.  Gold lines for soccer.  Blue lines for rugby.  Even the band marks it up for marching prctice.  Except for the city's semi-pro rugby team, all the teams go to their own natural grass stadiums for games.  It is nice that neither the football or soccer game fields have extra lines.

That was a great story on Nick Huber at BV.  I'm leaving the register article up for my wife to read when she gets on the computer later today.

Earlier this year I emailed all IIAC SIDs and asked for a 2007 football schedule so my wife and I could do a little road trip planning for this coming season.  I had a reply from Huber within 30 minutes.  I was amazed.  The other schools replied one by one over the next 2 or 3 weeks.  Until only Simpson and UD hadn't replied to me.

Great story of courage from both Nick and his wife.  Whenever life seems to get you down it would be good to take a step back and see what a great job those two are doing in what are most adsurely tougher cirmcumstances.

The fastest way to get an email from the Simpson SID is to make fun of their field -- he reads this board and responds via email all the time.  ;D

Now, that is funny! But, seriously, how does he get your email address? I thought only members that sign up to post can have access to the email addresses of the other posters. (I didn't read the "rules" that closely- sorry Pat). Anyway, maybe he posts AND emails on the side! Hopefully he will send me an email and tell me exactly what kind of field turf Simpson has so I can tell the powers to be at UD NOT to buy it when they build their new stadium this year!  ;D

Did anyone read the article in the NYT about the potential split in DIII.  I was unaware this was going on although I know of the tension between the state schools and private schools.  How does everyone see this impacting the Iowa Conference?

For the record, my handle is SimpsonSID as I am a member of the site.  So to make it simplier for everybody, my e-mail is matt.turk@simpson.edu

I read the site everyday, and I don't appreciate people taking shots at our facilities when you not informed about how we went about purchasing and installing them.

I've always believed in contacting folks directly, not use this forum.

Storm-what?

You know, I personally kind of like it that the Simpson SID stands up for what he believes. It take guts and it's nice to have some pride in your school. Oh and did anyone see the FRONT page of the DM Register sports section yesterday? Nice full color pictures and articles on SC basketball??? He must be doing something right!

I got an email today.  Thank you, although I couldn't get the link to work but it is probably my stupid work computer that is the problem.  Will try again tonight from home.

Now that just leaves MY school UD that hasn't responded to me regarding their 2007 football schedules.

Edit:  Link works fine from my home computer...thanks for sending me the schedule.

Here's a link to the story HoosierinIowa mentioned: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/13/sports/othersports/13ncaa.html?ref=sports

No way to predict how it will pan out, but it's interesting that it's under discussion.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Happy Single People's Awareness Day, boys. :)

Anyone want to grab a beer and talk football?

This is a football discussion board -- for football fans. We make fun of everyone else's team. It's fun. It's what we do. Do you think it's appropriate for someone, in their official capacity (as SID) to post on a discussion board?

Don't you have anything more pressing to do than read a football gossip board? I know Central's SID does....
