Key to know that UW-Eau Claire lost its veteran starting quarterback early in the game against Coe.
Thanks Pat! I was wondering how that result was so lopsided. Not that I don't think Coe is good, but respect for the WIAC teams says they aren't normally teams you stomp.

Central would have been my vote for last school to have their own beer...not the 1st  ;D

Central might be wanting that beer tonight! Congratulations to Coe on a huge road win. Please give us back Coach Baethke! He has done a fantastic job with Coe's defense. He should move on to a head coaching position at some school we won't play. Coe was better prepared for the game. Their defense was in our backfield all day. We really should have lost by more given all of our turnovers and penalties. One way or another our offense was constantly shooting the team in the foot. If we weren't throwing an interception we were holding. Ugh! The offense was ugly. While I jest about getting Cody Baethke back, I have to say the Central defense and extra point/field goal defensive special teams really shined. Yes, Coe got a couple of huge plays, but it was a defensive battle. The offense seems to go with the flow with whatever QB happens to be playing, but none of them are getting the experience one solid QB would get. I did like seeing Brady Ketchum get an opportunity to play again. Again congratulations to Coe. They were ready and for whatever reason, we didn't seem to be at least on offense. Have to hope to run the table from here on out and maybe get a share of the title.

I was pleased to see that Central now has more than one camera for the football video. I'm sure the camera operators will get better with practice as well as whoever decides which camera's image gets streamed. Of course I doubt that game would have looked any better if had been produced by the people who do Monday Night Football.

True. It wasn't a good day for a football visit day.

Old Dutch

The only thing that comes from Saturday is the news that There's a Lager coming out that we can relieve our thirst with.   When it comes down to football tho, I was terribly disappointed the Dutch game plan.

An old wise coach told me that "If you have two QB's you don't have a QB", and if you have three you're looking for trouble.  5 interceptions seems to be the proof.  I was excited to come to Pella Saturday but the only good thing I experienced was the Imperial Stout after the game.

Coe Defense was the best squad on the field, followed by the Dutch Defense.  They fought hard and stopped Coe on a few hard fought stops.   Good job guys.  Offense was awkwordly moving the ball, but never got the play when they needed it.  Seems the D is doing well but to look like Iowa these days is not enough to get a title.  Lets get it together and get some leadership from upper classes and support A Quarterback for a great season this year.Go Dutch!

Agree completely with Old Dutch on his analysis from Saturday. The offense just could not find a consistent flow. Coe used two quarterbacks and didn't have much success either with 3-4 interceptions as well. Really impressed by some Central goal line stands and blocked kicks. The offense needs a field general. Going to the JV game tonight. Anxious to see what the QB from Mason City has to offer. If none of the upperclassmen are going to step up, this kid's HS stats make me think he might not be afraid to walk in Blaine Hawkins' shadow.

I think it will still be 3 easy picks and a toss up in the Key City. How do you see that playing out Doolittle, DBQ1965 and Driftless? So nice to have at least one of each of you to comment.

DriftlessDuhawk

Big week for the Duhawks! Only game of the year that matters to the Loras faithful. If they are ever going to make a vertical move in the conference standings they need to get over the mental block that is 8 blocks away from campus. For the last 5 years the Duhawks have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in this game and just seem to not be able to get over the hump. I'll be in attendance for this game and hopeful I return back down Loras Blvd with the Key that has been away from home for far too long!

As I said in the previous post I truly believe that the Duhawks have been just as talented (if not more) for the last few years of this rivalry. There is just a mental block that has led to a lack of composure for the last few years. I would like to say this is the year that the team gets over the hump but until it actually happens it feels like a fever dream for the duhawk faithful. The path to victory for the duhawks is pretty simple. The defense has not shown the ability to get stops so far this year but they have created a few takeaways. Loras will have to create as many takeaways as possible and I think that if they end at positive in net turnovers they have a chance to win. The offense is pretty special but I don't think they have played a defense as good as they will see this week. If the offense can keep it rolling and the defense can take the ball away the duhawks have a chance. With this rivalry, I do expect to see something I have never seen before and be very entertained.

Having seen Loras play against Hope College two weeks ago, I think this will be a c!ose one.  I was impressed with the Duhawk offense but their defense diddled away the second half.  What I've seen of the Spartans is limited to streaming.  They seem to play in "fits and starts" on a quest for consistency on offense. As a loyal UD alum, I'm going with a close win eeked out by the Chalmers Field hosts. Go Blue!

We were planning to make the UD/Loras game, but would have had to leave early for our sons senior homecoming.  Staying home now and will be able to follow all of the conference games this way.  Should be a great day of games.
