DF1 - If I ever happen to lose my BV blinders for a week or two, I think I'll make my move to the top of the pick 'em!

I believe I tied dutchfan1 for the title two years ago, crimson blinders and all.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

This is starting to sound like a challenge, guys.....I like it.  ;)

OK, and I have to admit that CK and WH have both always been right up there with me....the question is, can you sustain your Pick 'Em record through another season? :)
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Its no coincidence that the top 3 in Pick-em also pull for the top 3 teams in the conference over the last several years. You look a lot better in pick-em when the team you are pulling for (and then usually pick) wins.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Floyd in Iowa City

Congrats to Wartburg for winning the IIAC overall all-sports trophy and the men's all-sports trophy for another year.  Congrats as well to Simpson for winning the women's all-sports trophy.

Luther is currently 16th in the national all-sport directors' cup going into the spring season. Wartburg is next closest at 29th place while Loras is 32nd.

The Knights should have a good spring in the national race since Softball made it to regionals and both Track programs should do well.  Luther should also do well since Baseball, Softball, and Men's Tennis all made it to regionals and the track programs should at least score some points at nationals.

Luther is doing better nationally than in the IIAC because they were sunk in the IIAC race by bad volleyball and men's basketball squads and an underachieving football team.  Congrats to the Norse teams that did win IIAC titles or finish high nationally:
Men's Cross Country
Women's Cross Country
Women's Basketball
Men's Swimming
Women's Swimming
Wrestling (4th nationally, no IIAC title)
Men's Tennis
Baseball
Softball

Storm-what?

National Balloon Classic is a huge ballooning event each August in Indianola. Like many of the other festivals in Iowa, it is in the summer so the college kids don't typically get real involved.  Otherwise, the city of Indianola has 3-4 decent "festivals" each year. As far as the college goes, people either go to the campus entertainers each weekend (new program in the past 3 years), go to the Greek houses, or go to Des Moines. You don't hear too many complaints about being close to the capital city!

I was sure complaining last July when I booked hotel rooms off I-80 for a state baseball tournament scheduled for Des Moines, only to learn that the games were moved to Indianola. That's not even in the same county!

Thanks Floyd for the all-sports trophies update.  There better be some staff meetings at Wartburg over the next couple weeks.  The rest off the IIAC is closing in and I don't like it.  Hopefully when everything gets settled down next year, the Knights will be able to distance themselves from the crowd.

I'm hoping for a championship football season to get it started.

I would really like to see a Saturday when Wartburg was home for cross country, soccer and football.  It would be fun to walk down 12th Street and watch all three one right after the other.

That's happened before, but since XC was running out at the golf course you couldn't catch all 3. To add one more event to the festivities why not throw in a VB game in the new gym.

Having that many events in Waverly, don't you think that would tax the parking capabilities?  I have no idea what kind of crowds are attracted by the other sports but if you would choose opposing teams correctly it might work.  Choose ones that don't travel really well.  I don't think you want Luther or Central to come as the football opponent as they travel to the burg pretty well don't they?

Hey Charlie- I didn't know two cities have to be in the same county in order to be considered close together. Yeah, it would be a longer drive from I-80 to Indianola. I have lived in Indianola and would drive to Des Moines on a daily basis. 10 minutes to the south side, 15 to the airport, around 20 (or less) to downtown, 25 to West Des Moines.

It just sounds you're pissed that no one let you know the site had changed.  ;)

footballdaddy

Anyone have any info on the 2007 football recruiting class? Any impact players? How did Central, Coe, and Wartburg do?
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

DutchFan2004

Thats a tuff thing to know at this time.  You really don't know who will show up to practice and classes until it happens as has been posted here before.  I have heard Central has some good Oline players coming.

While watching the stadium webcam on UD's site yesterday I noticed the sprinklers running on the football field.  I had read they would be installing fieldturf for this coming season and thought that it was odd they would bother with upkeep of the grass.  Has anybody heard about UD keeping grass or anyother info?  Things like with them getting a late start will they need to start next season playing home games at Loras or anything like that???

Walston Hoover

With no LOI's in D3, there's nothing besides a $100 deposit holding a kid to a school so its tough to know who will be where. Being in the high school loop, I have heard of what sounds like a group of very talented guys going to Wartburg. I know of a few that have comitted to Central as well. Haven't heard anyone for Coe or Luther but I'm sure they're out there. I assume Cornell will have mostly out of state kids again. Heard of a little interest in BV as well. Being in Central Iowa I'm surprised I haven't heard more about Simpson but ***speculation alert with no facts to back it up*** they may be looking for a  new coach in the near future.
