I remember our trip in '01 to Germany. Had a great time too. I'll be curious to hear some stories when the team gets back in the next couple days.
Dutchfan-Where did you guys go. I spent a week in Italy in the spring of '01 and saw Florence (Not much of an artsy guy so I thought that was overrated), Venice (Fun), and Rome. I think everyone should see the history Roma has to offer. That was something else. The Vatican was very neat too. I am not Catholic but after 3 years coaching at a Catholic school it would be more interesting now to go back.

I know there are a lot of Wartburg grads coaching @ Luther. Most of men's basketball are Wart grads. I guess to be the best you need to learn from the best.

Learn from the best?  Did the Norse hire a B.V. coach? ;D  The Knights went 5-11 in men's IIAC hoops this past year while the Norse went 3-13. :D  Put me in the camp that doesn't expect the ex-Knights to make Luther Basketball the winter equal of Norse Wrestling.  They have a long way to go to catch the Luther Women's Hoops program as well.

The softball hire did work out pretty well this year though.

The coaches that are at Luther now were at Wartburg during the glory days of Buzz Levick. I assume that's where the "learn from the best" statement comes from.

Walston,

Flew into Venice and stayed there two nights.  Then drove to Florence for town nights, and then spent three nights in Rome.  All three cities are loaded with history and fun.

FORMER Upper IA head coach Todd Simonsen passes away;
from http://www.hawkcentral.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070608/HAWKS0104/706080320/1053/HAWKS

"Former Iowa linebacker Todd Simonsen, a key member of Hayden Fry's first Rose Bowl team, died Wednesday in his hometown of Racine, Wis., due to complications from lymphoma. He was 47 years old."

"He also was the head coach at Upper Iowa University for three seasons from 1986-88."

Another player my age from that team is gone. 1st Reggie Roby and now Todd. So be sure to do your best to enjoy EVERY day you have on this earth.

Walston, Warthog, and all the other Orange backers,

How are you Feeling after the Lindy's article coming out and calling you the Flying Dutch.  This just shows the level they look at d-3.  They also listed Brett Doud as MVP the last two years.  I am grateful for d-3.com and the efforts they show us.  These weren't mistakes that anyone with any kind of time put into the IIAC would make.

The more schools that hear they are mentioned in a national magazine, the more magazines get sold. They could care less how accurate their "other than D1"coverage is as long as they sell magazines.

I think that is an acurate portrayal of the article.  But to get the mascot wrong is just lazy.  Not good journalizm at all

Ha Ha,
I can't believe you just brought that up again, cuz everyone knows Cody Kelley as the Most VALUABLE Player that year.

Couldn't resist. I'm waiting for anyone who was around IIAC football in '03 to chime in.
The versatility Cody Kelley showed to really be a dominant player at 2 positions is unmatched in the 10 years I've been following the IIAC. There have been some good ones. Matt Ditch comes to mind, but none experience the success that Cody had.

OK, guys -- I've been a little out of the loop recently (I'm changing jobs, so I've been tying up loose ends, blah, blah....) what's going on with Donneworth and Kelley? Something new, or are we just discussing former players now, in anticipation of the upcoming season? :)

Just bringing up a topic of conversation in a down time. Who would you take. I think they both are 2 of the most if not THEE most dominant players in the IIAC in probably the last 10 years, although I never got to see the younger Kac brother and don't know what kind of stats he put up.

I'd put Brad Jorgenson of the 96-97 Simpson teams in that argument as well.  For as good as the Wartburg teams were while I was in school (especially 02-04), nobody has dominated the IIAC in the past decade like Simpson did those two years.

Shane Davis from Loras and Matt Plummer from DBQ would probably have spots on some kind of all-decade team as well.
