Central will win the conference and UD will be second. . .the warts, bv, and coe will fight it out in the middle. . . simpson, luther, loras, cornell will fight it out in the bottom. . .the ghost of don birmingham will be running laps around the new stadium. .. menelaus, king of the spartan nation, has spoken. . .
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Spurrier

ralph turner stated that the iowa conference is one the best in the nation. . .dont think that has been true since the 70's and 80's . . . take a look at how many playoff games the iiac has won. . .not too sporty. . .

That's not what I read, Spurrier.

The IIAC is a very good conference and this is one of the better message boards.

I love prediction talk! Speaking of has anybody picked up Lindy's or Street and Smiths? Wondering where Central Wartburg were picked and if anyone else was. As for predictions I think its a last game of the year race, Central and Wartburg come in 9-0.. well im hoping at least, that would be amazing! Either way those are the top 2 and then I see Coe and Luther battling it out with someone else stepping up there as well to fight, could be loras or bv, or some other surprise team. I dont see dbq being any better than last year as far as finishing outright in 3rd this year, they lose quite a few if im not mistaken, although they have shown they can beat 2/3 of the best the past couple years. I dont see Central losing to them anytime soon tho. Other than that Cornell will hold down the bottom spot and I think simpson will be down there as well. Luther will surprise some with Sherden back but they lose their passing power. anyway ill shut up for now, heres my breakdown.
1.Central
2.Wartburg
3.Luther
4.Coe
5.Loras
6.Dubuque
7.Buena Vista
8.Simpson
9.Cornell

This will undoubtedly change and is no way my final prediction, just thought Id start it off and see who follows:)
30 IIAC Championships
20 Division III Playoff Appearances

Dubuque lost most of its temporary improvement right after the last game last year, and is likely to be fighting to avoid the cellar again.

Prediction: Next year a new head coach, already on the staff, the one responsible for UD's improvement.

old pro,

you are not suggesting that the AD, Runkle will take over the football program are you?

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Walston Hoover

Hey, quick question. Has anyone here set up a fantasy football league before on their own? I'd be all about an IIAC fantasy league. I don't think it would be too tough to do since iowaconference.com keeps up pretty well with the stats. Anyone interested?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

As long as my wife doesn't find out...and she never gets on this site...I would be interested.

No, Spurrier, although that might be interesting. The future lies elsewhere, but the answer is already waiting on the sideline. Not hard to guess, actually. It will be an uncomfortable season all around.

I guess there goes my optimistic outlook for UD this coming season.  I know Belleus left town right after last season.  Who else left Dubuque???

Is this assuming UD will have a 2-win season that this happens or is it slated to happen regardless of the year;s outcome?

Come on -- UD has a decent chance of winning at least 3 games this season -- Cornell, Wisconsin Lutheran (who went 0-10 in '06) and Rockford -- although Rockford should present a decent game for them. (Their '06 results look ok, until you check out their opponents...)

I would love to see UD schedule up for their preseason games. I firmly believe that you play to the level of your competition -- playing up might help their game. ....But, then again, who wants to risk an injury pre-season? (I guess the other school of thought is that an easy win is a confidence booster, building momentum going into the season...)

What do you guys think? Which is the way to go -- scheduling "down" or "up" in the preseason?

There's enough tests in the conference that there's no need to stretch yourself thin in the non-conf. I say 1 easy and 1 just below.  This isn't like D1 where they schedule games between 2 great opponents for revenue.

Dutchfan1,

You forget UD's big victory at the end of the season last year.  When you say look at the oppositions schedule and record.  The did beat a 9-2 team last year and it was on the road if memory serves correctly.  This may have been the exception but it did happen for what ever reason.  I just think that goes to show any given Saturday.   I think that if any team in the IIAC does not show up and give a first class effort every Saturday they could wind up with a loss to anyone including the Cornell Rams.

DF'04 -- I assure you that I haven't forgotten UD's late season performance. I have always been the first to say that anything can happen on any given Saturday. That's why we play the game. Obviously.  Predictions are so boring when all you say is "well, either team could win today..." ;)
