Wow, this board has ALMOST been busier lately than DURING football season.

CollegeFootballFan, nice to see you and your son showing interest in the Iowa Conference.  Every school in the conference has their strengths and weaknesses.  I think top to bottom we have something very special going with the IIAC.  Great academics and athletics.  IIAC schools are respected in the state and job placement is excellent.

You can find schools such as Dubuque, Loras and Coe in a bit more urban environment with the remaining schools in some great "county seat" type towns with populations around "8,000 - 12,000"  Definatly not too small to have a good time.

I will put my 2 cents in for Dubuque.  They have a football team that was the conference doormat for quite awhile but last year turned in their first winning season in much too long a time.  They did that with fostering a family attitude with the players along with better coaching and commitment from the school.  Dubuque is currently building a $23 million football stadium/recreation and wellness center.  In academics, Dubuque has a great Aviation program with Flight Operations and Aviation Management majors and minors.

I personally, love Dubuque and think your son could get a great education there as well as have a great chance to contribute to the football team.  I am sure alums on here from the other schools can and have told you all about their school.  Just take your time and research EVERY one of the IIAC schools.  And visit as many of the schools that might be possible for you.  In the end I don't think you could go wrong with which ever school your son chooses.

Now go Spartans...I just keep thinking they are in for  feast or famine this year.  Something like an 8-2 season or it goes the other way and they end up 2-8.

Peoples Preseason Poll (PPP) – Top 5 Receivers in IIAC

Who will be the top 5 Receivers in the IIAC based on receptions, receiving yardage and touchdowns in the conference games? Please give names, college and explanation why.

Recieving Yards:

I do not know who the starters will be, but I believe who ever Luthers WRs are this year will again lead the conference in yards.

The next  few WR will be in no order between  McIntosh(Dubuque), Huisman (Central), who ever the 2 starters for BV and Simpson will be.

Also potentially Youngblood from Cornell could have somewhere around 500yds at the end of the season, but that depends on how much Cornell choses to throw this year...

I think Duchman from Wartburg will most likely be up there as well. What does Coe have for receivers coming back? I know Kelvin Lee will be back but I think he is more of a slot receiver like suckow was.

Hey all, sorry for my lack of contributions over the last 4 days but football camp has been calling. Wanted to point out that Suckow hasn't been the only big offseason acquisition for my Knights this year.

the only starter coe returns now is lee.  he split time last year with brandon gray.  other than him they have some guys that havent played much on the varsity level.  all the starters graduated (or transfered).  they do have some incoming guys that should come in and compete with the returning guys.  probable starters are lee and hammas (frosh last year) or grieser at the other slot, maybe chad riefschnieder at one reciever and at the other is up in the air, but they all are really.

The only reason I didn't put Duchman from Wartburg on my list, is because Wartburg does a good job spreading the ball around, so no one player gets too big of stats.

Sounds like Coe really wasn't prepared to fill Suckow's spot along with the other recieivers...

footballdaddy

Wartburg could have several recievers at the top of the conference if they can get their offense to perform at 2003 levels. They can stretch the field if there is a QB to get the ball there.

FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Question for the Wartburg people. Who do you think will win the QB job? Being from around the Solon area I would like to see Yordi win the starting job.

footballdaddy

It will all depend on performance throughout the season.Coach K is looking for a big improvement in the passing game, and he will go with whoever gets the job done.It may be who starts the season will not be the one who finishes it.

Central reports on Wednesday and starts practice on Thursday.

I believe Cornell doesn't report until Saturday, and practice starts Sunday.

Footballdaddy is right when it comes to QB at Wartburg after last years passing game. I know that QB is wide open. There was two that got a chance last year and didn't get the job done. Now its up to them to get it done this year. Yordi is in the mix.
