Spurrier

warty,

if the spartans beat you back-to-back, then it will be time to rub it in. ..

the bearcats look to finish 4th in the big east behind WV, Louis, and Rut. . .they should be bowl bound again. . .

cincinnati will compete for a national championship in '08 when little spurrier arrives on campus :)
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

HoosierinIowa

1) Central--Leading with my heart and Schuring.
2) Wartburg--Scares me to death.  Great D and a home run hitter on Offense.
3) Coe--Wouldn't surprise me if they won it all.
4) Loras--I feel like I always overrank the DHawks.
5) Dubuque--May be better.  Ranking influenced by what I saw in Pella last year.
6) BV--Could jump up to fourth.
7) Luther--Ditto.
8) Simpson--Where have you gone Ricky Gales, a Redmen turns his lonely eyes to you.
9) Cornell--I hope they prove me wrong because I love the Wing T.

Ok,

I will keep track of the Pickems this season.  I see that the majority of people opt for the season of pickems. So we will start with week 1 and I will keep track of the pickems like last year.  I will try to post the schedule on Monday some time and then by noon central time the picks will be due.  If the post is time stamped later than it will not count to the championship race.  I will post the results sometime Sunday.  So if you want to join in please do.  All are welcome to participate.  Can't wait to see the teams in action.  Loras' loss may not be so bad.  After the performance last year at Central maybe Loras will hang on to the ball better without Mccaron.

i hear that suckow didn't get number 6 at wartburg, suprised he didn't transfer becuase he thought he was being treated bad..
I thought Wartburg retired #6 after the 2005 season.  I doubt it'll ever be worn as well as it was by that other Fredericksburg native.

Floyd in Iowa City

The Coe preview mentioned that they were the defending champs and had won 3 of the last 4 Iowa Conference titles.  Did the 2006 season count or did I miss something? ???

If Coe and KCRG want to forget about 2006 then I am sure the Norse would rather ignore that football season as well.

I was just going to say. John Campbell needs to do his research not to mention there arent any outright titles for the Kohawks. Field looks nice though!:)

Long time lurker, first time poster.  This will be my 10th year following Iowa Conference football.  Every season something surprises me, and I am sure that this season will be the same.  That's what makes the league fun.

Here is how I see it shaking out.  I am sure of only one thing.  I will be wrong about most of it.   :D

!. Central - The conference's best shot at having a representative in Salem in years

2. Wartburg - Will win the title if the Dutch slip at all

3.  Buena Vista - Return a ton on defense but needs to develop a rushing attack

4.  Coe  - Yes, they will really miss Suckow and Northern

5.  Loras - They find a way to win the battle for the city

6.  Dubuque - Not sneaking up on anyone and will have to deal with their home stadium being a mess this fall

7.  Luther - Lots of new faces and may take awhile to peak

8.  Simpson - I just can't see a reason to rank them any higher

9.  Cornell - Can beat anyone but Wartburg or Central, just not consistently

I see the top two teams as head and shoulders above the rest.  3-9 completely up for grabs.

Warthog,

No Monmouth folks responded to you, so I figured I would give you my amateur opinion. I went to Monmouth in 2005 with some friends to see Tanney  play.

I can honestly say that it was one of the best DIII environments I have experienced first hand, although the team was in the middle of unbeaten playoff run and I think it may have been homecoming as well. Regardless I would still think there would be a decent crowd being the home and season opener.

In terms of the tailgate, I recommend getting their early as I don't recall there being much parking. We actually parked on a side street and carried our chairs and coolers to a grass area near the football field parking lot and tailgated. It is a dry campus, but security walked right by us several times and didn't say anything to our party or the other tailgates around us about having beer. All of this could have changed since then, but my rule of thumb when tailgating at a new place is to throw in some red silo cups in case you can't have beer cans visible.  Also, a lot of people were cooking out, although we didnt. We actually got treated to some food by some players parents near us, but we were neutral, so I wouldnt count on that for your crew ;) :D

My pre-season picks...

1. Central - air tight offensive line, smooth qb, stud rb. defense solid.
2. Wartburg - same...except for qb- unproven
3. Luther - awesome offense, adequate d. good depth across the board
4. Dubuque - same soup, just re-heated. always talented, always inconsistent
5. Cornell - making strides, still need to add depth but front line players are quality
6. Buena Vista - keeps losing playmakers and not replenishing...still have a D tho
7. Loras - offense is questionable. defense, especially LB's are top notch
8. Coe - rebuilding mode...
9. Simpson - just kinda there...anymore stud d-linemen left?

Purple Heys

Question of the day.

Last year Dubuque shocked Wartburg for my Biggest IIAC Upset Award
What will be this year's biggest upset?

Purple Heys says:

Cornell defeats Coe 27-17.

Purple Heys

Rate the Kickers!!!

1. Bill Nelson - Simpson
2. uhh...might be a short list.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Walston Hoover

I would call Herzberg above average. WAY above average compared to what Wartburg is used to.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

If you're only going to win one conference game (if that), you might as well dream big. Few, if any teams will score 27 on the Kohawks this year though.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi
