Congrats to "Fast" Freddy Jackson...I watched the replay of the Bills/Titans game on NFL Network and he looks like he is doing well.  Still running hard and running fast, even though there are more guys in the league who can keep up with him.  He is showing football fans what IIAC football is all about.

TheOne, I will back you up (even though you are a Knight)...I too was a JV during my time at college and I was forced into early retirement due to injury and wish I could have played more football, JV or otherwise.  That is D3 football and why I went to a D3 school.  And I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything.

I am not surprised to see so many names on the Wartburg roster...it seems to me that Wartburg and Central usually have the most bodies on the field during game days.  They are always getting tons of guys into their respective programs.  One of the benefits of winning year in and year out.

And tomorrow we get to find out how many guys on the rosters can play football...Best of luck to the IIAC this weekend!

Any body got any thoughts on pre-season all conference player? Personally I think that Vance Schuring is the best RB in the conference. At QB I would say either Tim Connell, Jermar Jackson or maybe even Chris Hawkins(If he gets time to throw). WR is hard to pick just because I not sure what everyone has or what left. I know the beaver receiving core will be strong because they return every receiver. Any other Thoughts?

I definitely think that RB's have the best chance to be MVP as far as offensive players.  Schuring has to be the front-runner considering he is the two-time IIAC MVP.  Northern is a very talented back and deserves to be mentioned.  Suckow is an explosive offensive player as a runner and as a pass catcher and should get some consideration.  Jackson from Dubuque should also be mentioned but QB's need to get a lot of help from receivers.  Sherden is another explosive player that should get some consideration, but he is coming back from an injury after missing the entire season last year.

Schuring would get my vote because he has won the IIAC MVP award two seasons in a row and you are the champ until someone beats you.

There are my two cents on the topic BeaverFan3208...good topic to discuss :)

I personally don't think Northern should be a front runner,  it is hard to compete for a MVP position, when you don't play anymore but hey that is my opinion.  :)  I do agree wth both out looks one conference players, but if you want you can look at mine and everyone elses on Page 358.  As for that, tomorrow is a huge day, hope everyone is as pumped as I am for some IIAC domination.  Good luck to all IIAC teams.

Central v Coe as a game to watch but no mention of Week 10 Central at Wartburg in the Around the West? I know its a ways off but if everything works out like I hope it will decide the IIAC. Although every game is a conference championship game.
30 IIAC Championships

Last year I would say Coe "lost" this challenge.  We actually led that game for a time.  And had a call gone the other way, the 1st half would have been tighter.
I shouldn't even dignify this blather with a response. Yes, Cornell led 7-0 until near the end of the first quarter before eventually losing 31-14. One call wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

Coe has won this "rivalry" game seven straight times and Cornell has only come close once, in the 66-63 debacle in 2003. Otherwise, Coe has dominated the Rams. This year will be no different.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Which team will have the most relative trouble with the Rams this year?

I am taking the easy way out of this and saying any of the three teams.  They have Wartburg at home second to the last week of regular season...I truly believe in home field advantage.  The rivalary between Central the week before can always mix things up.  And finishing the season off on a strong game against Coe can make Cornell quite a threat to all of these teams.  Playoff talks and IIAC championships will be on the line especially during this time.  Finally, the Wing-T is always a mix up for teams.  Having ran it in high school, I am a fan.  With every play looking like the every other play, it is a good offense to have in your playbook.  And as others have mentioned, it can be tough for schools to prepare for it since it is so unlike other offenses out there.

Good luck to all IIAC schools this weekend.  Looks like Iowa High School kicks off the season tonight (MN as well, second week for WI)...good luck to all of the coaches out there.

Not going to lie. Between the ISU game yesterday, our games today, and Wartburg kicking off tomorrow. Its been a very unproductive last 24 hours.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Preseason Conference Player of the Year

Offensively, Schuring has to be an obvious candidate.  However the strength of his team ought to make one pause for the question.  Would he be as good IF there was no Connell or no high level defensinve unit providing favorable field position.  How much credit goes to the O-Line?

Put him on Simpson or Cornell and does he put up the same numbers?

Said another way, take him off Central and do they remain a top IIAC team?  I'd say the answer is yes.

Now take a look at Jackson of Dubuque...take him off the team and does Dubuque even win a game?  Put him on another team and does he give them that potential extra something.  I think so.

Records of the teams have the obvious effect on these types of honors.

On the defensive side, my vote would go to Cornell's Gustavson...put him at Wartburg or Central or even Coe and his 100+ tackles get him better than 2nd team.  Cornell simply needs to win more games before that sort of thing happens.  Any individual accomplishment gets overwhelmed by their record...but go ahead try to convince me this guy's is not a player

I have spent all of my "free" time at work on this site and game-planning for the Chicago Curie Condors games tonight.  Football, football, football...thats all I think about during this time of year.  Good luck to the IIAC this weekend and to anyone else involved with high schoolers.  Talk to everyone after the holiday!

Go Condors and Go Norse!!!!
