One minute you are holy crapping about taking it easy in here the next you are criticizing the validity of posters statements.

Yes, I see the irony in being the guy that is typing out some pretty strong words just 24 hours after making a call for more civility around here.  But I see a big difference in trying to refute something another poster has said, as opposed to calling a large group of people "pricks" just to try to start a fight.  As far as my questioning Charlie, it was just a question.  I wanted to know how two people so distanced in age could be "close friends."  He explained it.  End of story.  Don't know if that's how it read to you, but its pretty tough to inject inflection into black and white words on a screen.

Strange how you didn't mention that at all while he was still playing for Coe.  Pretty easy claim to make after the guy's out the door.

Charlie,

Not to start a war but to get some idea of the game from the stats on the IIAC web site.  Tekippes numbers were not normal for him.  Were there many dropped passes?  Did he have to throw the ball away to avoid sacks?  Was he hurried more that usual? He is usually more acurate.  Just wondering a win is a win and the stats dont matter in the end but that was just really low for him.

Funny, I didn't say that he was the best player when he was their either.  I always favored Asthon Northern because my good friend Pat Stevens works with his dad.  Maybe I didn't ever mention that, but I probably thought it was irrelevant.

Start pulling anytime.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

He missed some receivers with his throws from what I saw.

CooCoo,

That could be first game rust.  I was just surprised by that.

Another interesting thing was BV stopping Bethel 5 times in the red zone.  Good job to the Beavers on that.  That is tuff to do.

Don't ever recall claiming that you did say that Suckow was Coe's best.

And I'll start pulling when you address some of my other questions:  Why Wartburg folks are pricks, The implication that I was making up quotes, etc.  I'm all ears.

You are right, you have been gracious twice and it is I who continue to be a prick.

However,

What Warthog wrote about Coe's great day threw me into a tizzy.

Walston Hoover had to make a comment on whether it is Fred or Freddy.  When you meet a guy and he calls himself Freddy you call him Freddy.

I also thought you to be hypocritical, you called it ironic, fair enough.

Charlie wrote the thing about Tommy and Freddy's friendship to his fellow Coe posters and his fellow Coe posters know of the friendship.  Why, because we all saw the picture of Freddy and Tommy at Freddy's wedding in the Coe Courier

I just don't understand why you comment on those types of things in the first place.  It's our stuff, don't be a prick and leave it alone.

Don't know about you, Coocoo, but I'd really like to bury the hatchet on this thing so it isn't hanging over everyone else any longer.

Far as the Freddy-Tommy connection goes, I just wanted to know what it was all about.  It struck me as strange that those two would be close friends, just as it probably would if Walston claimed to be real tight with one of Wartburg's current players.  Charlie broke it down, and I let it drop.  I don't happen to receive the Coe Courier, so I wouldn't have known what the connection was.  But to say "its our stuff, don't comment on it" is kind of ridiculous.  After all, that's what boards like this are for.  And when you post something, anything on here, its inviting comment from people that might not know what they're talking about.

Far as what Warthog and Walston said, you'll have to take that up with them.  While the large contingent of Wartburg fans around here are often lumped together, we don't always speak for each other.  I didn't happen to see Walston's post (I usually try to ignore him, its worked well in the past  ;) ), and I'm pretty sure Warthog has already explained that what he said was to be taken very lightly.

I think a very good portion of the things posted here are done so with a hefty dose of jest.  In light of the high level of conjecture the past week or so, I think everyone (myself included) needs to slip on a thicker skin and we'll all get along much better.

There's my olive branch.

I never thought I would see this day.  SportsKnight sure has changed since those days back in the McElroy Comm. Arts Center....

Maybe no one cares, but here are my two cents on the "pricks" comment made awhile back.  We all on here have one particular IIAC school we cheer for.  Either you went there, or played football there, or have a kid/relative who goes there.  You might even have a school you dislike....for example, my hatred for Luther mostly due to the huge rivalry but also for some of the "pricks" that I have encountered at local watering holes in Decorah, IA who have made a jackass comment just because I was wearing a Wartburg shirt or sweatshirt.

However, I know plenty of Luther grads and even have a couple high school friends who are students there now, and I would not see them as "pricks".  My high school coach, who encouraged me to keep playing football beyond high school, played for the Norse (or Norsemen I suppose it was at the time).

So even though I "hate" Luther, there are plenty of good people who graduated from there, probably a majority of them....just like some people might "hate" Wartburg, we do have a couple of decent folks who graduated or are currently enrolled there.  I have a lot of pride for Wartburg since I chose to attend school there and continue to pay off my college loans for the education and experiences I had there.  I also spent 4 years of my sweat and blood as a part of the Knights football team which we were always taught goes beyond our graduation.  The work we put in a few years back rests upon the shoulders of the current Knights....just like the work I put in was for some of the great teams before me.

I guess that is my thoughts on the recent "battle" on this board...but I suppose that is why we have topic boards like these, to discuss this and give out our own opinions.

What was that comment? I seem to remember something being said about that? Don't remember if it was me or not though. You better find it or we're going to throw-down-message board style.
After all, I am a prick. We all are, at least to the Coe fans on this board who have some of the thinnest skin I have ever seen. Heck you and Charlie even had your own lover's spat when you both first came on this board.

I believe 5 of Bethel's 6 drives in the 1st half started inside the BV 40. To give up 0 points under those circumstances is borderline insane.

BV has an extra week to hopefully pull a little more offense together for their battle with the Knights.  They'll need to muster a little better run game even though their projected starter coming into the season just got his arm out of a sling.  I think the thing they're missing though is a big fullback to help lead the way.  I don't think there's a Bentz (yes, that Bentz, Cornell fans), Pick or Crook in the group.  Small tailbacks + minimal fullbacks = trouble.

I can't comment too much more on the game vs Bethel besides from what I heard on the webcast in the first half.  I took advantage of the weather and got some major landscaping done and caught bits and pieces of the game when I took breaks.  (I still have that damn "16 Tons" song in my head...)  But I did time it right to catch Sly's 48 yard INT TD return.

It will be interesting to see how Simpson fares against Bethel this week.  My biased opinion was that BV had the most impressive non-conference win this past weekend.

I wasn't at the game first hand, but from what I gathered from friends and spectators, Tekippe didn't have time to throw the ball very much.  The o-line was probably the biggest question comming into the season because Coe lost 4 starters last year.  They were rotating linemen in to see if they could find a unit to gel, but hasnt happened yet.  Everyone has first game gitters especially 4 guys trying to get a feel for eachother for the first time all along while trying to replace some pretty big shoes of three 3 year starters and one 2 year starter.  I hope for Tekippe's sake that they gel in the next 2 weeks.  They have some real good players, but the o-line is all about being coheasive.

From what I saw of the Coe game, it looked like TeKippe didn't play very well.  That would be my opinion.  While the o-line struggled a little in the time i was there, Andy looked very rusty and didn't seem to have any rhythm or cohesiveness with the receivers.

Tekippe will get better and I still think he will end up being the top QB in the conference, but he has a way to go as of right now.

Buckwheat

When I started reading this board last year, I was impressed with the civility of the posts.  Don't know why the animosity the last day or two.

I hope I'm not alone when I say I enjoy reading about all games, the big plays, the turning point in the game -- outstanding performances.  Even though I have a son playing for Wartburg College - I enjoy reading about other schools and their games, players, coaches.  A lot of these kids know each other from high school sports. A lot of these parents also know each other.

What (I hope) keeps this board special is the  publicity provided by fans of their respective teams - albeit sometimes extremely biased.  It's painfully obvious newspapers don't give the IIAC the coverage it deserves.  Reading the game stats doesn't always tell the story of the game.  Thanks to those who supply weekly information -- it's the best media outlet for fans of the IIAC.

Thanks to those who weekly supply information .. and thanks to the administrator of this board ... imagine trying to following the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference without this opportunity.  Instead, Saturday's might be "just another game".
