Is there a need for the random polarizing political comment, 04? That's kind of left field, and it's frowned upon on this board.

True dat.  There's enough bickering around here without bringing politics into the equation.

Just saw USA Today's lines:

WB -3.5 @ Luther...

hmmm.. tough line but i'll take the Knights.

I haven't seen them play and probably won't this year, but I think WB's TE will have another big game.  Based on what he's done the first two games and the article i read in the courier, sounds like he has a lot of upside.

run the ball well=boot legs to an athletic TE.. it's a great play when you're running the ball well and the defense has agressive safeties.
normally the safety has to cover the dragging TE(at least in man coverage and 1/4's coverage)
if defense is playing cover 3, it should be wide open with the WR running off the corner and the OLB staring in the backfield  at the QB and not looking for a crossing WR behind him

It's an especially $ play once you get down in the red zone, i'm really not sure why teams don't run it more often.. you get a two way option out of it as well. The  QB can run it if there's good coverage but more than likely, the TE will be wide open after slow blocking and selling the run...

how have they been getting the TE the ball?  seam routes against cover 2 or have they been running the boot much this year?

Just curious, PH, what exactly is your "affiliation" with the team? Surely you're not a player. Perhaps a member of the debate team?

8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Charlie:  I have also wondered about the Purple Heys "affiliation" with Cornell Football.  I'm fairly sure PH isn't a player since a few posts ago something was mentioned about missing a game.  That is good, I don't think it is generally a smart idea for a player to get involved with these ramblings.  After some investigation, I think I now know what PH does as an "affiliate" of the Rams.  On the Cornell web-site there is a picture of the cheerleaders.  Most of them are really cute, however one of them could stop a train going down the tracks behind the stadium.  That is probably Purple Heys.

Purple Heys,

I think that is the difference in programs.  Central, Wartburg, and Coe don't measure a sucessful season by the IIAC crowns it is measured in how far we get in the playoffs.  We as a conference have not had a lot of success these last years.  Saying that it is a given that we will have a loss this year is a defeatest attitude  (much like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Move On.org have with our country).  I think that if you ask any of the successful programs MUC, St Johns, UWW they all expect to get to the Stagg Bowl that is their goal.  Maybe a lofty one but a goal none the less.  I know the Central players as many as 65 I was told worked at the off season workouts with just that goal in mind.  I hope that we do not have a loss this year and so far we do not.  There is no quick answers to success but hard work.  I think your Coach Dillon has that mentality.  I hope it pays off for the Rams.  You are right that D3 ranks our conference at 12th I believe.  We have to have some success in the playoffs to change that.  That is how D3.com measures the conference and if we continue to go 0fer in the playoffs maybe they are correct.  I think you are envious of the stature of  Coe, Central, and Wartburg.  We expect to win IIAC crowns.  If that is a crime I plead guilty.  As Charlie and CooCoo from Coe,  any of the Wartburg crowd,  Sportsknight, Walston Hoover, Warthog, or any other of the Dutch we are not happy with less than an IIAC crown. Are we infalible not on your life there was only one and he didn't play football.  But to assume that we will get beat is a bad attitude and IMHO has no place in a winning program.  If you don't think you can win the Stagg Bowl you never will.
I think that DF2004 has a good point.  Contrary to the "Image is Everything" approach is the "Attitude is Everything" stance.  And DF2004 makes a great point here.  All great programs have to begin with a winning positive attitude.  All great countries need the same thing.  You cant walk out your front door without having negative political attitudes and Political Correctness policies affecting each and every one of us.  And football is no different.  Actually Football offers a mirror of how things 'are' in this country.  A slice of life as it were.  Need we look further than M. Vick, Pacman Adams or TO?  Or how about the college kid ( I forget which team and his name) who just got a neck injury and the DRs. told him he wouldnt walk again yet in 3 days he moved his fingers.  What if this kid had bought into that diagnosis?  Do you think his attitude was negative?  DF2004 has made a very good point.  Attitude is Everything.

I remember two years aago at Luther. Down pour and 6 turn overs. I hope this  Sat. will help me forget that game

The nightmare that was 2005 should have never happend, but it did, and now the Knights have started "The Streak" against Luther all over again.  Sherden concerns me a little.  If the LB's see the OL pull it will be another shutout.  That is the only thing that hurt us in 05 (defensively).  Duchman and both Suckow's are due for a big day.  Should be a fun one.    Go Knights!

Norsedad,
The sophs won again on Tuesday, and thanks for asking.  But just as exciting for me was the freshman getting their first W yesterday against Reavis.  Very exciting for everyone involved  :)  Go ahead and scream for me on Saturday, if you would be so kind...its going to be an electric atmosphere on Saturday.  And you know the Knight supporters will show up just like they always do.  Enjoy the game and GO NORSE!!!!!!!!!!
Go Norse!!!

I hope this is ok Pat, but I wanted to post this on here also to get some reaction to the analysis.  If you want me to take it off I can.  If not, tell me what everyone thinks.

Dubuque over Simpson - I think that this game will be a lot closer than people think.  Simpson has some talent with Kain and the D, but I think Dubuque's week off will add some rust to the high flying offense.  I am thinking a 24-21 type of game.

Coe over BV - I am still not even touching the BV koolaide that some of you are drinking.  BV in not good offensively and Coe has shown to be one of the top 2 defenses in the conference thus far.  BVD, also overrated in my opinion.  I think Coe gets it going offensively a little in this one and runs away with it.  Coe doesn't lose by the lake under Raeburn.  24-7.

Central over Loras - duh.  Healthy Shuring or not, if Loras is allowing that many yards to an average at best Cornell offense (no "offense" Rams fans) they are going to get torched by the Dutch.  Look out for a statement game by the Central D.  38-10

Wartburg over Luther - Am I the only one that think Wartburg is by far the class of the conference at this point?  I look for the Knights to avenge the loss from a couple of years ago and hammer the Norse.  Pretty soon, Coach Hefty is going to have to get his guys to put together a complete game.  31-6

This will be a week of statments made by the top 3 in the conference and UD can throw themselves into that mix with a strong win over Simpson.

For the record:  I think BV's new uniforms suck.

SportsKnight has not changed one bit since the days of Clinton Hall.

Good Luck to all the high school football coaches out there.  Friday night football is one of the best times around the news station every year.  I am saddened I can not go out and be at any actual games tonight since I am filling in to direct the "Highlight Zone" instead.

Good luck to the rest of the IIAC this weekend...I look forward to an exciting game (hopefully a blow out from the Knights) on Saturday.

Question:
How do you keep a Luther student from beating his girlfriend?

Answer:
Paint her Orange & Black and they will never beat her.

89.1,

That was a cute joke, I have never heard that one before.

Invisible one,

I do think that Wartburg is playing good football at the present time.  I think they indeed may be the team to beat.  Having said that I still think that every game is a game that must be played.  I think even Cornell could and indeed may win some this year in the IIAC.  If each team does not play to its level.  After seeing the Luther running attack first hand I think they can move the ball on the Knights.  As I stated on the Pick em board I think the Norse D can give the new Knight QB some troubles.  As last year the Dutch D was able to stop the Knight running attack forcing them to throw the ball and they couldn't do that.  If Luther makes the Knights on dementional as they made the Dutch it may be a long day for the new QB at Wartburg.  The Knight victory is in the hands of the O line IMHO.  Luther will score and move the ball on the Knights how many points and yards I have no idea.  IMHO it is up to the O to win this game by putting enough points up to out score the Norse.  That may seem a simple statement but the last time we played at Walston Hoover it was the special teams that shined on that day with 3 scores if memory serves a kick return and two blocked punts for TD's and a short field by another blocked punt that lead to a Dutch TD.  (just clarifying why I say that the Knight offense will have to out score the Norse)  It could very well come down to special teams if Luther's punt team turns the ball over when receiving punts.  I still think that it will come down to the Knight O moving the ball, that was their problems last year.

I have a kid that plays for the Rams...specifically drawn to Cornell by the OCAAT.  He had offers elsewhere...Cornell's academic program was the deciding factor.

SO, as a result, I am a die-hard Ram fan through thick and thin.

Just want to say good luck to all the IIAC teams this weekend and hopefully everyone comes out injury free. I almost decided to go up to Decorah for the weekend to watch the game since the rams have their bye week, but I'm going to madison instead. Anybody have any recomendations as far as bars or restaurants go? I have never been up there.

By the way I saw somebody said something about BV having new uniforms? Didn't they just get new uniforms two years ago? Did they go back to having more yellow?
