Just curious for Beaver followers

I'm not a BV fan, but that phrase still describes me.  ;)  C'mon, somebody had to make the joke.

If BV has problems recruiting football players (I don't know for sure whether they do or don't), it could have to do with Northwestern College, Morningside College and Dordt College.

Northwestern has had a great run for a few years now.  Morningside seems to be the sentimental favorite through out that region.  Now Dordt is starting football (club sport this year) and offers young players the opportunity to be immediate contributors.  Combine this with the fact all three can offer young impressionable young men "football scholarships" and BV has a mountain to climb in western Iowa.

We all get a little self centered and think of the IIAC as the only show in town after Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa.  That isn't quite the way it is.  To the three I've already mentioned you can add Waldorf, Upper Iowa, St. Ambrose, Billy Penn, Iowa Wesleyan, and Graceland.  Suddenly there are as many non-IIAC small football schools in the state as you have IIAC teams.  When three of them share your backyard, as in BV's case,  the going gets tough.

Besides, have any of you walked around the campuses at Northwestern and Dordt?  The schools have some strict rules of conduct for the student body, but Wow!  They may have a look but don't touch policy when it comes to the coeds , but you'll think you've died and gone to heaven when you see them.  Hells bells any red blooded American boy would go to Northwestern or Dordt before heading off to BV.  (In the event Mrs. Warthog reads this I want to say, "I am sleep walking and have no idea what I just wrote.")

Warthog, I agree with the list of Non D3 schools in the state.  But you left out one highly rated school.  Drake adds to the equation also.

Buckwheat- BV has 20 freshman on the team...I'd say they had a recruiting problem this year.

Central over BV - The Dutch will come out of this game feeling a lot better about their defense.  I look for Connell to have a huge day through the air.  31-3

Simpson over Loras - out on a limb with this one.  The Duhawks are banged up and Simpson has played better in the last two weeks.  Both schools coming off of tough losses that they probably feel they could have won.  The Storm gets off the schnide and gets their first conference win.  17-14

Luther over Cornell - neither of these teams are very good.  Luther has more talent, and Cornell is rested.  Makes for a close game.  Luther wins with a late score and tears the heart out of Heys and Ash.  27-24

Wartburg over Dubuque - revenge has nothing to do with the outcome this year.  The Knights are focused and will take advantage of UD mistakes to win this one rather easily.  I would like to see the Knights go down, but not yet.  30-17

Thoughts?  Reactions?

I don't know about that, Mr. Warthog.  I'm sure the gals at Dordt and NW are all well and good, but personal experience tells me that BV ain't too shabby in the coed department.  Plus, girls at BV has a certain "morally casual" attitude that you might not find NW or Dordt.

Don't all of the IIAC schools have some "morally casual" women running around campus?  Luther most definitely does... ;)
Go Norse!!!

I believe for the 2008 season there will be 10 NAIA schools and 10 Div. III schools with football in this state.  BV will be surrounded by Morningside, Briar Cliff, Northwestern, Dordt and Waldorf on the NAIA front.  With Briar Cliff and Dordt having new football programs.  How much of their problems are competing against NAIA schools and how much of it is poor recruiting/administration I don't know.

Of the IIAC schools I have visited (when I was young) there were women with "morally casual" attitudes to be found at all of them.  My wife went to Northwestern her freshman year.  She grew up in a very strict, christian environment and SHE was considered to have a morally casual attitude as far as Northwestern was concerned, so there you go.  Of course after meeting my Dubuque friends for our annual golf outing she informed me NONE of our kids would be allowed to attend there.  Even though almost all of my friends have gone on to successful careers she thinks they are too wild and that would not be a good environment for our kids.  Apparently they will need to find something in the middle of Northwestern and Dubuque.

Go Spartans this weekend by the way.

Wartburg is closer for us to drive to!!!  And at least Walston is starting the recruiting.  Who had the son that went to the BV football camp 4 years and was never contacted by them untill after he had signed with Wartburg?

Being at a Catholic school has taught me you can never start too early.
