Or you could look at how the Central game went for them and see my point exactly. They were up on us in 05 at halftime be we came back and put the game away quick, they were all over each other on the field blaming everyone. It made the game a bit easier. The first half they were playing team football though and it was harder to do much. I dont think you can generalize that they are better unless youve been on the field against them, that and they have basically the same guys as they have.

By using the 2005 team as an example though you are talking about players that were sophomores.  This years Dubuque team has the same players as you point out but they are now seniors.  You also can't really judge a team by one game like you are trying to do.  If we did that, Dubuque could point to last year and say that Central had to go to over time to beat Luther while Dubuque won at Luther 52-34.  Does that make Dubuque the better team?  Maybe against Luther but not head to head as Central later beat Dubuque.

I've often wondered this:

True or False.  Will a school over recruit so as to not have a particular student/athlete playing for a rival team?

Gut check for those who really know.....

Buckwheat- I don't know that I'd call it over recruiting.  I'm sure teams think about not wanting a specific player to go to a different IIAC school, but IMHO,  I would guess most teams are more worried about their own depth charts instead of other teams.  If you get good prospect at a position you're already pretty deep at, now you're even deeper.  Not to mention that a ton of things can happen to any player at any time, transfer, academic, injuries, etc.  And if an athlete is so good you're worried about other teams having him, I'm sure teams would find a place on the field for them somewhere.

Im not judging a team by one game at all. Just stating a point to my earlier post. I think Dubuque has made great strides since the days when they were recruiting me  and Im glad to see it. Football is a team sport and its good to see them finally playing like one. Im counting on a heck of a game this weekend between them and Wartburg.

Sorry about the confusion DutchHawk.  That probably won't be the last time I read something the wrong way.

Here's to some well played games all around the conference tomorrow.  No matter who wins.  Though hopefully the teams I picked do well!!!

Can't argue with you following your heart, Heys...you will NEVER see me pick against the Norse  :)  Just can't do it.  I applaud people like you and Ash who support your Rams through thick and thin.  I am the same way with the Norse.  +K to you in my book for being loyal to your school  :)

And BTW, I love the movie quotes on your posts...that's a good one from the Princess Bride  ;D.  Keep 'em coming.  They make me laugh.

DB:  Same back at you...cheer for your team as loud and as cantankerous as you please.

I look forward to a highly entertaining afternoon, regardless of the outcome.  College Football on a sunny Saturday!  If you go drop by the Ram parents tailgate area right near player entrance gate...I'll save a cold Sierra Nevada for you...unless you get there too late!

Dutch Hawk...Check your date...2005.

I think it's fair to give credit to the DBQ credit for conquering those demons and putting together a pretty solid year in 2006.

BTW - Some players I talked to after playing the DBQ expressed surprised that last year's edition decidedly did not bicker and melt down.

I think this year's Spartans deserve a bit more respect.  To paraphrase Sportsknight:  there is no Distributive Property in football either...if you work on your game.

Purple Heys,

The UD team that came to Pella had 4 TO's last year.  Melt down could be a term used to explain this.  I was not on the field but how else do you explain the fact that on a kick off the all conference return man (Walner Belleuss) (spelling?)  fumbled the same kickoff and the second time it was in the end zone and results in a Dutch TD.  Jermar had two fumbles and a pick.  One pick in a game is not bad in itself but the errors mounted up and in a short time span so I think 2006 might qualify for a meltdown.  If I am not mistaken the second, third, fourth teams finished the game for the Dutch and that is when UD scored.  I am not saying that UD was fighting amongst themselves at that time but the errors were glaring and from the way they had been playing totally unexpected.

Having said all that this is another year another team and the game with be at UD this year.  Playing and having home cooking is never bad.

Good luck to the IIAC teams and wishing for health through the games.

I was using it as a personal experience example.

The players not bickering depends on the game, if they are winning and what not. Hopefully they did clear up some of these demons, they must be doing better as their records have indicated. I give them a lot of credit! Not trying to deny them anything. Just stating one of the keys to beating them is to jump on Dubuque early. You could say its a key to beating anyone but definitely Dubuque because they have the abilities to put 60 up any week if your not careful.

I also agree with DF04 as well.

Doolittle - no worries, sometimes Im skimming so fast I dont see things the way there were meant to be written.

Good luck to everyone for an injury free Saturday and may I go 4-0 on my picks:)

I Just read the Courier article on Lansing- a 6'1" -220 lb safety!?    Wow, that's a huge safety..   sounds like John Lynch..

It seems the Courier is actually writing some articles on WB this year.  It's nice to see that considering they are 20 minutes away and have won a few games here and there.

They used to be pretty bad  about covering WB considering how much success they had/have.

anyone see my little cousin Noel Devine tonight for WV?  that little midget is averaging 11 yds/carry

Good Morning Everybody.  I'm typing from the 3rd row of the Kinnick Stadium Press Box this morning.  Should be a great day for football.  The sun is starting to break thru the clouds and it should be perfect weather by the time the IIAC games kick off this afternoon.

GO KNIGHTS!

Updates from other conference games would be much appreciated throughout the day! (especially W'Burg / Dubuque)

It's windy as can be here at Schipper Stadium as we're about 20 minutes from kickoff with Central and BV.

Dubuque scores on 4th and goal from the 1.

73 yard drive on the opening drive off the game.  Sounded impressive on the radio.
