I'm not sure what Sherdens injury was either, except to say he seemed to be walking fine after the game. Also had a D.E. and a corner go down and not return. I would agree with Floyd, He's not been much of a decoy, to this point. If he's in the game, follow him and you'll find the ball. Lamos and Bass are quite capable,as they had 95% of the carries last year from the tailback spot. But, Sherden is special. I'm a little surprised the fullback doesn't get more carries also. Understandable last year, with the QB and recievers they had. He accounts well for himself when he does get touches. Maybe thats why I get to be a fan, and not a coach.

Tim has matured and become a huge threat on the football field and its great to see. Go Dutch!

One more thing, Old School. Connell's tough. He takes a lot of hits and still completes a high percentage. That and the winning percentage

Skimming through the web-sites of IIAC football teams tonight, I realized I'm a traditionalist.  My favorite conference uniforms are the Indy Colts look-a-likes worn by the Luther Norse.  The Central Dutch messed up a classic red and white uniform by adding unnecessary Cs to the jersey sleeves and stripes to the helmets.  Wartburg has also added too much pattern.  They should return to the evil black of the early 2000's.  Loras and Coe have nice classic looks.  I prefer the Loras gold helmet to the Coe variety with the COE logo.  Simpson and BV have too many stripes for my taste and Dubuque just has way too much of everything on their uniforms.  I find the numbers on the Cornell dark jerseys hard to read and I don't like their current Ram design on the helmets.

Thanx for the encouragement. I'm actually in the unfortunate situation of just sitting on the FOB the entire time. Because of where I was assigned, I do more battle tracking than actually getting out there in the fight. My family likes it, but being young and dumb, I'd much rather be out there getting the bad guys. Anyways, looking ahead to this weekend. I've got to go with the Dutch over Simpson, but I think the game is going to be closer than most expect. For some reason, Simpson always plays Central tough at home. It always ends up being a dogfight. I think Dubuque at Coe is going to be a hell of a ballgame. If Dubuque hangs with them and at least keeps the score close for 4 quarters, I think it will show that Dubuque has really turned a corner. Don't know much about Coe, but if they really put away Dubuque this week, then next week a Pella is gonna be a barnburner.

You sound like a fan of solid colors! ;) Ive always been a fan of Centrals because they are classic and havent changed much in the last 40 years. Minus the fact that there used to be a solid red 3 or 4 inch stripe on the pants up until a decade ago maybe? That and its scientifically proven that teams that wear red win more often...obviously. haha :)  I like Wartburgs new ones as well as Luthers. Other than that Im not the biggest fan of any of the IIAC's uniforms. Ive always been a fan of SJU's as well!

I agree with the thoughts on the uniforms...simple is good.  Too much on the uniforms can be distracting.  I was glad when we added the numbers on the helmets at Luther...now that's classic :)  I definitely like Loras's look with the gold helmet...simple and sweet.  And I think warthog is right about the Knights uniforms...they should be black on black.  There is just something menacing about a team that wears black jerseys and black pants.

Gotta be a homer and go with Central's Red and White. I think we were gonna change the helmet up a bit a few years ago and go with a Tennessee Titans stripe (is that right, DutchHawk) but we stuck with tradition. I always liked going all white on the road, but I don't think our road record led to good karma for that. I've always wanted see what we would look like with all red at home. Wartburg's blackout is just intimidating, no getting around that. I like Linfield's home unis, SJU, and for some reason, Wheaton's. The dark blue and orange just looks good.

If Raeburn had his way when he first got to Coe the home uni's would have been all black with crimson numbers and the away's would have been all white with crimson numbers (pretty similar to Mt Union huh?)  Coe has a great shot at putting it to dbq this weekend with the team speed on D.  As long as the o-line continues to progress it should be a good one.
never liked loras' uni's very much, never too keen on purple and gold.  White uni's are the best, for some reason they make the team look faster.

Gotta agree with the sentiment that Wartburg's all-black look was better than the current.  The orange numbers and shoulder stripes look like they were put on the jerseys just for the sake of having some more orange in the scheme.

Central and Luther's looks are both very classic.  Very basic, but still enough detail to set them apart.  Loras' home uniform is the same way, but they've been messing with the away set too much lately.  Coe's uniforms aren't bad, but when they wear all-red at home it looks bad.  Stick with the gold pants in CR and the red ones on the road.

I think I've already made my feelings known on BV's new look.  Not real sure about Cornell wearing black jerseys yet...although the white helmets don't look as bad as I thought they would.  Simpson and Dubuque seem to make a tweak every year and nothing really sticks.

Airborne,

did you know that you can listen to the games on the net?  If you go to KNIA/KRLS.com they carry the games live over the net or you can get them on a pod cast to listen again.

Sportsknight,

Did you take Saturday off?  I didn't see you in the booth or on the sidelines.

DF2004,
I was over in Iowa City covering local boy Brandon Myers, who was making his first career start for the Hawkeyes.  It looked just as bad from the press box as it did on TV.

I'm planning on being in Indianola this Saturday, unless I can get tickets to the Cubs game.  Beyond that, I think the only game I'll miss out on is the second trip to Dubuque, which happens to be the same day as Wartburg's homecoming.

sportsknight...tix for the Cubs playoff game are about 500 a copy and up.  I have a couple of ticket guys here in Chi-town if you want to drop that kind of money for the worst team in the playoffs... ;)  I would be happy to hook you up with the ticket guys if you are interested, despite the fact you are a Knight and I am a Norseman  :)

Old School ENP, I should clarify that I didn't think Connell was a bad quarterback as a sophomore I just didn't think he would be able to elevate the play of those around him if the team was dependent on him. That was a problem at the QB position at Central in some past years. I have been happily proven wrong. He is as good as anyone I have seen at Central along with Steve Flynn from the old days.

I saw both ENPs games in the Dome when they won the state championship. Off topic whatever happened to Dustin Baum? He could really motor.
