Picks:

Wartburg over Augsburg.  Not seeing a lot of chance of a Wartburg let-down here which is bad news for their non-conference opponent.  A wrestling duel would be a lot more interesting I am afraid.  38-10

I just wanted to throw my two cents in on Augsburg being the worst team or at least worst defense this year on the Wartburg schedule.  Throw out the wrestling records and rivalry in that sport as the gridiron Auggies have lost the last three games and given up 183 points in those losses!

Augsburg did beat the same Northwestern College team that Cornell also beat (winning by five points even though they forced six Northwestern turnovers), and the three MIAC losses are to solid to very good teams (Concordia, St. Olaf, and St. John's).  The scores are below:

9/8 Northwestern Bible College  W 31-26
9/15 St. John's  L 62-7
9/22 St. Olaf  L 70-31
9/29 Concordia  L 52-21

The main MIAC game this weekend is that St. Olaf at 5-0 travels to St. John's who is also 5-0 as usual.  The Ole Defense has not been up to the task against the Johnnies the previous two years.  The St. Olaf Offense is averaging 51 points a game while St. John's is averaging 40, but the St. John's coaching staff has been in a few a these big games. :D

I am sure the Loras Football team knew who they were playing last week, but the Duhawk SID seemed very confused as he put together the press release covering the OT loss to the Storm.  He did correctly say that Loras played Simpson, but twice he called the team the "Dutch" by mistake. ::) ???

I didn't realize that the squads from Pella and Indianola were so similar?  I guess the Duhawks did play both schools in back to back weeks.  Hopefully the fans from both teams at Simpson on Saturday will be able to distinguish their team from their local rival.  Good luck with that. :D

with all the talk about kids on the last few pages, I thought this would be a good time to introduce my little girl.

Brooklyn Jo Devine born on  Oct 3rd  she was  8lbs, 11 oz..
Luckily she was a week early or she would have been really close to the 10lb  baby I was and mom wouldn't have thought that was cool   :)

Congrats, Devine!  :D

Good luck to all teams...less to the the Beaves, though.

Crap...it's still early on Friday, can't focus on work.

I expect the Beavers won't be an easy game but I'm looking forward to breaking into the W column this weekend.

BTW - Congrats Devine!!

Good luck and hopefully no injuries this weekend in the IIAC. The game to watch this week is the Central vs Simpson clash. I think that the storm have a shot  to upset the dutch.  Nah...maybe not, Central should have a cake walk, but we'll see.

Is this the weekend that Cornell finally gets a conference win? If the head coach pretends that it is the 3rd qtr at the beginning of the game and cuts his offense loose, then maybe? It will still come down to whether or not their D will make enough stops to off set the mistakes the offense will make.

As far as the uniforms are concerned, I like the Norse and the numbers on the helmet.....classic

Sorry.....I forgot to mention the Coe DBQ game, but since not many people have commented about the Kohawks and their record, I didn't want to ruin their Karma.....I think that they will win, only because their D shuts down the Spartan offense....maybe 17-10?

Heys, I find listening to the archived webcast, of last weeks game, really helps my focus at work. OK- maybe not, but it does help get me through Fridays. Good luck tomorrow and may all your Shiner Bock's be cold ones.

Its never a cake walk in Simpson, I always got the feeling that if the Storm beat us it could make their season. They will be up huge for this game and I guarantee the boys in Pella know that. Its always a dogfight no matter the talent and will be again this year.

Heres to everyone staying healthy and playing well!

Corkie...It will be nice to see if the Rams can put together 4 quarters of quality football.

'Bolt...I took the broadcast and modified it so that Cornell wins 41-25...you're right, I do feel better now!   :D

I'm not quite ready to declare UD the newest IIAC team of destiny.  With losses looming in games against Coe, Central and Luther, I see them limping home with a mediocre 4-4 conference record.  Luther on the other hand has had a meat grinder schedule with three respectable losses to highly rated teams.  As they begin to get everyone healthy the Norse may well run the board from here on out.

As much as I would love to jump on board with this line of thought Warthog, I feel like I will know a lot more after Saturday and next Saturday.  The Loras game is always tough between the two teams and Luther hasn't beaten B.V. since Jimmy Carter was in the White House (or so it seems ::)).  There are a lot of teams in the conference capable of beating teams on any given weekend, but how many are actually capable of going on a consistent run?  A healthy, productive Sherden and a healthy, productive QB will help a lot this weekend and going forward.

I keep hearing how Loras is so banged up.  Who isn't playing for the Duhawks?  The box score from the Simpson game showed the usual RBs having played and having played very well, at least from what one can tell from a box score.  The Duhawk LBs are also sounding like they are playing well as usual.

I checked out the box score and saw that McGrew ??? had limited action and Andrews, listed as FB got most of the snaps ... and I saw Brock Hall even had 5 carries ... whats the deal with this ??? Can anyone from Loras add some insight into tomorrows game and just how banged up the DuHawks are?  and maybe why their all american LB is taking snaps at rb ???

Anyone have any scores. My links to Wartburg aren't working.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

edolee

Wburg 7 Aburg 0  bout 7 mins left in the first half.

Knights are moving the ball, but sound pretty inconsistent.

7-0 Knights

For some reason KWAR doesn't have the live link up on their website.  I'm listening the Augsburg broadcast...not so good.  Takes forever for the guy to update time and score.
