BV 42

Cornell 7

Big game for the beavs. The offense finally got rolling and the defense just shut down their offense.

Storm-what?

Exciting game in Indianola today- I knew it would be a battle. Devastating loss for the Storm- had all of the right tools just couldn't finish it all. TWO big turnovers today for the Storm inside of the 1 yard line. Makes it tough to win against a team like the Dutch. The Dutch fans had to be holding their breath until the final horn sounded. Either Simpson is better than their record, or Central is not a top 10 team... Too bad for the loss- could have turned the season around. Fun game to watch though for everyone. Great game for Simpson's Ruetzel and Tubaugh.

Thanks Pat, DF1 & Purple Rain - Pat, I'm pretty sure you're not that much oldrer than I am.. It has been 7 years since however..

Now about the WB game, can someone who was there let me know what the hell happened?
I just looked at the box score to do some digging.. Stats don't always tell the true story but some things that jumped out at me..
1) WB missed extra pt after 2nd TD which ultimately cost them @ least OT
botched snap, or did he just shank it?
2) Auggie was 3-18 on 3rd down - that's awesome Defense
3) WB had 10 penalties for 112 yds.. that's awful
4) WB only had 2 turnovers and was +1 in TO margin - i was going to guess that they would have been -2 or worse when i first saw the score
5) Yordi threw 49 times
6) WB's FS scored both TD's  3 yd pass and 48 yd pick six...
7) WB gave up 14 pts in 4th Qtr
8  WB won the previous  2 games by 3 pts each and then losing today by 1.. what gives with Augsburg playing WB so tough?

WB certainly wasn't playing the Steel Curtain today after some of the 60pt+ games Augsburg  have given up this year according to some earlier posts..

Lastly, I'm going to end this on a positive note:  WB still controls their own destiny and can still win the IIAC  if they can win out- Obviously this will be no small task

Cliff Clavin fact of the day:

There have been 798 head coaching changes since Jo Pa started coaching . Find it hard to believe that it would be D1 coaches  only since that would be an avg of 20 per year which seems really high for an avg..

Iowa is really awful right now- 8 consecutive Big 10 losses with Today's loss and I believe 15-16 overall since the LSU win

This is why football is crazy.  They finish top 10 for 4 consecutive years and now they can't buy a win

Dubuque beats Coe 28-21 in OT

Long story short, nap time didn't turn out to work for little Doolittle and I to make it down to Cedar Rapids today for the game.  Sounded like it would have been a good one.  Dubuque blocked a Coe punt and recovered on the 4 yard line with about 2 minutes left and then scored on 4th and goal to send it into OT.

Sound like Wartburg Offense relied too much on the pass.  Announcers said Van Rees was on the sideline with crutches...possible ankle sprain.  I'm sure if it's nothing serious he will be back shortly.

The Knights have their backs against the wall now.  Win out and you get a conference title and into the playoffs.  One loss and it's pretty likely Central will be in the playoffs instead.

Sounds like an exciting game For Coe and UD.  I have been backing Cornell all year, but looks like they are having trouble getting the conference "W".  Any word on Luther and Loras?

Finally...Go Cubs!  We need a win today.

According to the Luther website they beat Loras 16-6 today.

Well, it didn't help, that's for sure... they probably lost any chance of an at-large bid. But the Knights don't need to win out... They just need to beat anyone they tie in a head to head tie-breaker.  Clearly if they win out they are in the playoffs.  But if they lose to Cornell, and beat Central, I expect they will still have a good shot.  They already own the tie-breaker with Dubuque.

The big ramifications here are a drop out of the top 20 and the embarassment of losing to the bottom of the MIAC.  Not to take anything away from Augsburg, as they probably played better this week than in recent weeks, but you have to wonder if the Knights weren't looking past them.

They had to have been looking past them, and that's not something championship-caliber teams do.
Rest assured Koehler will get the guys focused this week.
Wow. Just wow.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Luther 16  Loras 6

Norse defense was tight today on a VERY WARM afternoon.  Temp was 90 degrees at the end of the game.

Loras missed a field goal in first quarter, then after a long penalty in the Norse favor LC went on to get a Tyler Pease field goal.  3-0.  Second quarter, Luther two field goals, one set up by a pass play covering nearly 60 yards.  LC 9-0.

Third quarter.  No score.  Loras had difficulty moving the ball.  Luther defense played strong.  Luther tried one field goal but missed from 16 yd line.  Fourth quarter:  Luther intercepted a pass and ran in for TD.  Luther 16  Loras 0.  Loras scored TD on pass from 6 yd line.  Luther 16  Loras missed extra pt 6.

Sherden was held to under 100 yards.  Loras QB throws a nice tight ball but couldn't get receivers open until late in game.  Luther's front defense played well and hurried him with several sacks and multiple "in the grasp".  Loras' #30 Brock Hall (linebacker) played tough all day.

The heat on the field must have bothered both teams.

Wartburg Fan

Was at Wartburg today very poor showing on both sides of the ball for the Knights, they weren't fired up all day and let Augsburg hang around. To many penalties, that killed drives or good punt returns. The one that really hurt was a offensive pass interference that was caught for a TD. It was a good call cause the WO pushed off. Also the PAT missed wasn't any help. The last 56 seconds the knights dropped two passes in the end zone that would of won the game.. You have to give hats off to Augsburg for never giving up.  Hope this taught the team that they can't over look anyone. Very bad day in Waverly.

The Show

Congrats to Chris Hawkins for breaking the single game TD pass record this afternoon against Cornell.  He looked pretty sharp all day and was given time to throw.  Didn't look like Cornell had the athletes in the secondary to keep up with BV's WR's.  Not sure what was wrong with Cornell's offense.  The QB looked shaky all day with fumbled snaps and a lot of over-throws.

Congrats to the Beavers on the big win today.  I was not at the game but read the press release and reviewed the stats.  Can anyone shed some insight into the score.  Was BV this dominate, and if so its a sham this team didnt show up to play Coe, Central, and Wartburg, or is Cornell this terrible.

Purple Heys what do you think brother?

Congrats to BV for putting on a performance today! Also to Luther!

Its always a battle at Simpson, trust me guys...the Storm always show up to play the Dutch no matter how out manned they are. We are going to have to keep improving and get a ground game going. Sounds like Connel had another great day!

DF04 - Is everyone keying on the run or why cant we get a ground game developed... i havent made many games this year!

Wartburg....what happened...this kills me, as much as I dont like Wartburg we need to get 2 teams into the playoffs and they were playing like a team that could. What happened today...looking past Augsburg or not as good as a Knight team as everyone thought??

Dutchhawk,

I can't put my finger on it.  We have great pass blocking or at least enough to get the job done but seems like there is no running room from the line.  Zachery got a great run of 20-30 yards and a score.  Not having Vance at 100% we miss his pounding the ball and the opposition D getting tired.
