Wartburgfan and Football Daddy-I'll be guy in the bright orange Adidas coat with a 2-year old in tow yelling about anything and everything at the game. Introduce yourselves if you see me. I'll be watching my wife at the alumni volleyball match at 10. Fricken same time as the parade. 10 years I've been going to Wartburg's homecoming's and the last time I saw the parade was when I marched in it as part of the Aplington-Parkersburg middle school marching band in '94.
I can't catch a break.
Oh, if I can find it, I'll probably be the only guy there in a bright orange Wartburg Adidas visor as well.

Living in west Michigan (I was out of town for the Hope - Central game this year), there still is residue from the Dutch influence all around here.  Towns with names such as Holland, Zeeland, Friesland, etc., and folk whose last names began with van, den, etc.   When we first moved here, there was a bumper sticker that read:  "When you're not Dutch, you're not much."

Go Spartans!

I was always taught there are 3 things in the world that are red--Communism, the Devil, and the Central Dutch.

I suppose we could do some sort of census on here.

Spartan fans off the top of my head I think have already spoke up.

Spurrier - The granddaddy of Spartan Nation
Willie University - was posting on here the day I found this site last season
Keith45 - former athlete at UD, often a voice of reason on here unless you mention DuHawks
DBQ1965 - new to our board and welcome again from us
And me...doolittledog.

I'm sure there are at least 2 or 3 more...I just can't think of any others right now.

Bethel and St. Olaf play in a key MIAC game this weekend up in Northfield.  Both teams have one loss each (the Oles lost to St. John's while Bethel lost to B.V.), but Bethel still has to play St. John's.  Last year Bethel (after losing to Carleton) beat both St. Olaf and St. John's and the MIAC ended up with two teams in the playoffs.

Can Bethel beat the Oles and Johnnies again this year?  IMO Bethel should be slightly favored tomorrow since the Oles have not been playing strong defense lately.

It is in the best interests of Central, Wartburg, and Dubuque to see Bethel win tomorrow and then lose to the Johnnies.  That would probably ensure that the MIAC would only have one playoff team.

St. Olaf has been 7-3, 8-2 and 8-2 over the last three years.  Can they break through and put themselves in playoff position?

There are others that I haven't seen as much this year, but I think Thunderbolt also has been attending several Norse games over the past year or so.

sportsknight and 89.1 are two more that you missed and that's enough for a football team...I don't think you need anymore support than that  ;)

Tough week to pick.  I have struggled a little going .500 over the last two weeks.  Time for a big one....

Simpson over Cornell.  Looks like another winless conference season for the Rams if they can't win this one.  I really think that their lack to depth is starting to show and I look for the Storm to get the offense going a little bit.  27-13

Luther over Waldorf.  Don't know anything about Waldorf other than what has been said on here.  Sherdan has another big day, and Pease continues to make short FGs.  Luther is getting better every week and this little oasis amidst the conference slate is nice.  30-14

BV over Loras.  This is a stinker of a game.  I pick BV because they are at home.  Really no other rationale than that.  17-14

Wartburg over Coe.  I hate to pick the Knights here, but I don't think you can continue to lose close games and recover quickly.  2 losses for Coe this year in bad form, on top of the 3 losses last year by 7 points or less.  It is a bad string.  I actually think Suckow will not play well and might not finish the game.....however, I also think that some Coe players are more focused on Niel than on the game.....advantage Kights.  Coe plays with heart and intensity, but still not enough offensive execution to pull it out.  20-13

Central over UD.  My scouting report on this game was posted earlier and I stand by it.  I think Connell and his receivers are too good in the passing game to not exploit the press coverage tactics of UD.  Also, I think Central's special teams will play a huge role as I see Jackson making a costly mistake deep in his own territory as a result of a Brondyke punt.  This game will be thrilling and close, and in close games you have to pick the Dutch....until they prove me otherwise, they are the team to beat.   28-24

I didn't play for the Norse, but I coached 2002-2004

I'm glad to be among the few UD fans on here.  As far as the outcome of the Central game is concerned, I've only seen the Spartans play twice in the last 3 seasons ... in 2005 against Luther at Dubuque (UD got skunked) and this September against Rockford College ... the Spartans had a great second half.  The one thing that worries me about meeting Central is UD's tendency to "bad-timing penalties" and just plain dumb mistakes.  I see where the Telegraph-Herald picked Central the winner, 27-24 ... but that could just as easily be reversed.
