I was always taught there are 3 things in the world that are red--Communism, the Devil, and the Central Dutch.

....and the 4th would be Nebraska football, correct? (Oops, sorry Warthog)

I didnt play for Norse either...but it sure has been fun watching them this year...even if there have been a few holes in their performances.

Hey dbjay did you play at Aurora?

these are the Norse supporters that I can think of right now...i am sure there are more

Did each of these play for the Norse?  When?

King, I probably shouldn't be talking to you, either....but, we'll make it a whiskey....let's keep it interesting.

Can't make it to the game, unfortunately.....it's too bad, too -- I've been looking forward to this game all season!

I took off work early today to get the Wartmobile packed for tomorrow's excursion to Waverly for the Kohawk/Knight clash.  I hope it is a dandy game we will talk about for years to come. (A Wartburg victory, I hope)

I wanted to get loaded up early so Mrs. Warthog and I can get our regular seats at the Muskie final regular season home game tonight.  I predict the Muskies will move to 7-1 after tonight's game which should set up a season ending clash with an identical 7-1 Davenport Assumption team.  I may have to find Coach T. after tomorrow's game and see if he would consider a small wager on the Muskie/Assumption outcome.

The Wartmobile should pull into Waverly around 10:00 or 10:30.  We'll set up somewhere between Walston-Hoover and the soccer field.  I'd love to meet some of the "experts" from this site.  Coe-Wartburg-Cornell fans I don't care.  On football Saturdays, you are all close friends of the Warthog clan. We'll have the big orange and black flag flying.  Park close and join in the conversations..  I hope my buddies from Davenport and Rock Island show up.  I enjoy their ability to find old time barley pop.  Please don't think I'm rude, I will need to leave for a few moments to go to the book store.  I need to pick up a couple Wartburg items to send out to Oregon so as to give a little class to a Linfield inspired family room.

I hope to see many of you tomorrow.

BE ORANGE

Hey Spurrier, I found out that South Florida's coach Jim Leavitt coached at UD for a couple of years in the early 1980's.  Where you there while he was?  And if so, what can you tell us about him.  Also, were there any other coaches from UD that went on to bigger and better coaching jobs that you know of?  What did Don Birmingham do after leaving UD?

Did you ever tell your son..."yeah, a scholarship to an up and coming D1 school is great and all, but maybe you should look at playing at your old mans school!!!"

Hmm, yeah, what was I thinking?!?!  It must be the flu lingering in me to think that.   :D

Best wishes to everyone able to make it out to games this weekend.  Here's to good times at the games and safe trips back home afterwards.

Wartburgfan and Football Daddy-I'll be guy in the bright orange Adidas coat with a 2-year old in tow yelling about anything and everything at the game. Introduce yourselves if you see me. I'll be watching my wife at the alumni volleyball match at 10. Fricken same time as the parade. 10 years I've been going to Wartburg's homecoming's and the last time I saw the parade was when I marched in it as part of the Aplington-Parkersburg middle school marching band in '94.
I can't catch a break.
Oh, if I can find it, I'll probably be the only guy there in a bright orange Wartburg Adidas visor as well.
Walston you know me all ready at least we have talked after some of the game my son played with your brother

I will also be among the throng descending on Waverly tomorrow.  I think I'm planning on getting to town around 9:00 to get one of the guided tours of "The W."  After that, its a complete wild card.  Homecoming is always a great time, but I usually end up feeling a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't see as many old friends as I wanted to or I didn't spend enough time with the old roommates.  Guess that's the downfall of having such a varied group of friends.

Warthog - I'll try to sneak up to the tailgate at some point in the late morning/early afternoon.  Hopefully you'll be in high spirits after a nice win by Coach Sauser and the lads tonight (he's a Cascade boy, donchya know).

Walston - You should expect a phone call from me at some point during the day.  The later in the day, the less intelligible.

TheOne - Where are you going to be doling out your famous pretzel cheese dip?

Anyone else that will be around, feel free to say hello if you see me around campus.  Still not sure what sort of attire I'll be decked out in (most likely a black fleece sweatshirt if the temperature takes its sweet time getting to 70), but I'll be around somewheres.

Oh, and one last thing...
GO KNIGHTS!!!

three in a row from the triumviate: warthog, dutchfan1, spurrier. . .doesn't get any better than that. . .

doolittle,

yes, leavitt was the defensive coordinator my first two years. . .i ran track for him as well. . .he was more wild then. . .visited with him many time since he has been at south florida. . .we had a linebacker go there his first year. . .we brought their staff in for a clinic a few years ago. . .

birmingham left dubuque after the '83 season and coached at trinity college in texas, his home state. (hence the cowboy hat and boots). . .he coached there a  few years until he entered the radio business at the corporate level for clear channel communications in san antonio. . .he past away in the late '90 after running a 10k. . .

little spurrier and his team are having a great season. . .he is looking forward to winning  big east championships and bcs bowls at cincinnati. . .did i mention he is going for free. . .

It is in the best interests of Central, Wartburg, and Dubuque to see Bethel win tomorrow and then lose to the Johnnies.  That would probably ensure that the MIAC would only have one playoff team.

Wartburg has to win the conference in order to get into the playoffs. Wartburg's loss to Augsburg at home  (Augsburg gives up 58 pts on average in MIAC games - they are bad) pretty much kills them in any comparison to other teams with two losses.  Both Bethel and St. Olaf with two losses would get in before them.

I agree...

The question is, if Wartburg wins the conference, and Central or Dubuque have only one loss, would they also get in?  I think that is the issue for the MIAC with each of them beating on each other.  There is a very real possibility that 2 IIAC teams end up with 1 loss.  If Central should get through unscathed every other team in the conference will have at least 2 losses and the IIAC will get only one in.
