Rams' D not able to pick up the slack.  Knew the offense would have a challenge with the freshman QB.

Simpson goes 95 yards for score...escort service is in operation.

Voice of the Dutch

Just got back from Dubuque - glad you all enjoyed the action on the radio / internet.  It sure was fun to see up close and personal.

First off, Dubuque is a hell of an offensive team.  They have so many guys that are SO fast.  Luckily for Central they are mistake prone, and the Dutch were able to capitalize on those mistakes by forcing 4 turnovers.  That's what won the game for Central, no doubt about it.

I just can't believe how gritty and gutty these kids from Central are.  They had a 3rd and 20 followed up with a 4th and 9 with the game on the line in the final two minutes and find a way to convert - then march down and get the touchdown.  And then to keep fighting in the second overtime after turning it over on their possession.  It's just incredible how the right things keep happening for this team.

Someone asked about the fumble by Dubuque.  It wasn't a big hit, it was just a well timed play.  They run the read option quite a bit, and just as Jackson was making his read, Clayton got hit and the ball came lose.  For those of you listening, I questioned right before why Dubuqe wasn't just kicking the field goal.  It was only 30 yards with a STRONG wind at their back.  Basically a chippie.

I over-heard the Dubuque coach after the game talking to their radio guy on-air, and he said "Our program is past the point of moral victories, we just need to make more plays".  Well - he's right.  They've got the program in the right place.  Just needed one more play today.

Great game by both teams and tons of fun to watch!

We are playing small, slow and friendly...hence we are getting blown out.

What happened to the competitive team that gave Luther and Loras a run?

Injury bug doesn't seem to be an issue...

Starting the freshman at this point would seem to be a necessary move...but Central has got to be licking its collective chops and figuring that the next game will finally be an opportunity to not have a close one.

For the Rams, they need to search within themselves for inspiration.  Look no closer than the Augsburg win over Wartburg.

Here's a team that is getting blown out week after week, that barely beat the same Northwestern MN team..and yet they rise up and punk the Kanigits.

Win or lose, how much do the Rams want it?

DBQ1965

What does it mean when you are 65 years old ... retired ... and a UD loss like today's  still is a disappointment?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Just got home from Waverly. My take on the game.Wartburg finally played four quarters to their potential. The defensive game plan was perfect.Coe couldn't block the Knights blitz package. The offense blocked well and gave Yordi the time he needed in most cases. The running game took off in the second half. And Suckow was definetly playing for keeps.

Coe played hard but was just overmatched today, especially on the line.Hammes did well but made some sophmore mistakes. He will be a force to be reconed with in the future.Tekippe played most of his game on his back.He deserves a medal to just still be standing at the end of the game.

If the Knights can keep this intensity up for the rest of the year, they can do well in the playoffs.

Long live the Evil Empire!
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

I agree with Dutch Radio.  I think Jackson and Clayton kind of had it together when the hit was made.  I didn't know and couldn't see if Jackson still had any part of the ball when it happened.  Huge play.

Walston I think has mentioned before about Dubuque not being disciplined.  That is what happened to with the two unsportsman like penaties.  Mashburn dived to attempt an interseption and clearly tramped it.  All three back officials signaled incomplete.  When Mashburn got up from the dive he spiked the ball sending it about 20 feet in the air.  That was the first 15 yarder.  Then Brautigan gave the headlinesman an ear full.  He didn't let up and the whistle for the ready for play was sounded after the 15 yards were walked off and then the flag went in the air.  Discipline IMO starts at the top.  IMO if Brautigan spent as much time coaching his players as he did chewing on the officials he might have helped his team more.

Great game in Dubuque....but everyone knew that already.  Probably should have been won by the spartains.  I've seen most every Dutch game the past 4 years.   A lot of comebacks/close ones but this one I really truly felt that Central was going to lose in the 4th QTR.  Then again in overtime.  It was very tough up there to overcome playing against 12 guys ( does their coach always spend more time on the field than most of his players?)  Would be a bit annoying if I were a Ref.

I felt the comeback was aided by Central's decision making.  They just got done scoring 17 straight to take a 17-10 lead and they gave DBQ both the ball in the 3rd AND the wind.  After that you go up 7 to down 7.  It also seemed that Ken O'Keefe was in charge of the play calling.  Still seem to love the run the ball on first and second when it is close and have a 3rd and 7 to convert.  A rushing avg of 1.8 is a big uh oh.  1st quarter decision was one of the biggest in the game.  4th and a half yard from the DBQ 2 and get a field goal blocked was huge.  I know you want to be the first on the board in that spot but if you can't get a half yard down near there are some big problems.

Congrats to Tim Connell today....He became the all time completion leader, passing yards leader, and total yardage leader passing big Kac.  With all 4 td's today if they win out he is the MVP

Doolittledog,

Here is some special K for you.  Sorry you got the flu.  I guess my jinx hit you instead of the mower.  Sorry for that.  You missed a whale of a game.  To bad any team had to suffer a loss after how hard these guys played.

Congrats to Wartburg today.  Sounds like they found the offense and really took control of the game.  That is a good win and performance for them.
