Dutchhawk ... where did you see the press release?
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

You don't want me to get started on you guys Purple.
But perhaps next week.
Yeah, next week.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Walston Hoover

Let me know if you want to play nice a la Central or dirty like I would with Coe. There is no in between when the gloves come off.
Maybe we could get a real good smack fest going on here next week. Its been a while since I've done that on here with someone not from Coe.

"You suck!" and other such vapid declarations against either team and star players will be heard as long as there are mental midgets to spout them.  I think it is an expression of a sort of athletic impotence whereby frustrated fans and "jock wannabes" in the security of one another find a misplaced sense of importance.

Thats funny..."you suck!" is the preferred insult that is thrown at any visiting player/fan at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.  I was there as a visitor this year and also called a$hole.   And I was expecting much more creative and inventive forms of insult from the highly reputable fans in Philly...Apparently, the Eagles fans are a bunch of mental midgets  :D

On this string...I remember back in the early 70's when the Army-Navy game was still kind of an event.  Anyway, you could always hear them give each other a sing-song chant against one another:  Go to Hell Army(Navy), go to Hell. (Clap-clap)

They even got on opposing players that we doing well such as when Army QB Kingsley Fink was having a great game, the Middies in the stands were chanting "Go to Hell, Kingsley, go to Hell" after every Fink score.

Bring it W-H!  ...a little good-natured, punch-to-the-gut smack will help take my mind off the downward spiral that has become our season.

Hey Purple, hopefully the wildfires stay away from your place.  If Cornell can't win a game for you maybe at least the wildfires will stay away from you.  We'll be sending good thoughts your way regarding the fires.

Dutchhawk ... where did you see the press release?

http://www.dbq.edu/udathletics/football/news1.cfm?ID=711

Off of the Dubuque Website linked through the IIAC Website. Under the title "A Thriller in Three Overtimes".
"10/20/2007 - A Thriller in Three Overtimes
The University of Dubuque 29th-ranked football team jumped out to an early lead on Saturday over the 5th-ranked Central College Dutch..."

These updated ratings that I saw today linked from the Football section on the IIAC webpage have Central at 5 still, Dubuque evidently moved up to 25th after a loss?? and Wartburg at 38. Heres that Link...

I tend to trust d3football.com first, followed fairly distantly by the AFCA ratings...I dont know what Don Hansen is thinking some of the time.
EDIT: He also has UNI at 6...2 spots ahead of Southern Illinois...while the other ratings have UNI at #1. Just as some more evidence to what is IMHO an incompetent poll.

Hope that helps!

Purple,

The game between our teams is this week but I just cant bring myself to get into a mud throwing match.  I have never talked smack in my life before a game.  I guess I don't like eating crow after my team suffers a loss.  So I guess I just let the team do the talking on the field.  Are you coming to Pella this week.  If you do dont forget to visit the bakeries on the square.  Dutch letters and puff pillows are my favorite.  You should try some.  They are the treat of Pella.  If you do come have a safe trip and if you are in the way of the fires I hope they miss you.

I traveled from the East Coast for Wartburg's Homecoming, and it was a great weekend.  The Wartburg-Coe game was very entertaining (at least for a Wartburg fan), and the big, enthusiastic crowd made it worth the long trip.

Suckow's three touchdowns were definitely crowd-pleasers, and I saw lots of t-shirts with his name emblazoned.  It's obvious the Wartburg student body has embraced him with an extra bit of enthusiasm.

I also toured "The "W", and it will set a new and high standard for the IIAC -- and perhaps most of D3.  Someone told me the "Hall of Champions" is over 300 feet long, and that's only one impressive feature...incredible attention to detail.

I also heard that applications for admission are way up over a year ago, and this past September they enrolled their largest freshman class ever (550).  They report that the new building is already proving to be a huge asset in recruiting.

I'm with you Heys.....I need something to take my mind off of it as well. I tried the booze but that just made it worse. I think now that I have had a couple days to recover Im ready to go back at it as I hope the team is as well. No doubt it is just going to get tougher but hell nothing is impossible. Remember the Augsburg vs Wartburg game? Dutchfan2004 does Pella have a good watering hole with some good food? I always heard that Pella does not have any bars.

Having to listen to the 5 idiot, fat Central fans behind me all day was a real treat. Yelling about how the "Rhinos" were playing "Central football." Hey fellas, I hope a couple of you read this: SCHURING HAD 65 YARDS ON 25 CARRIES!

You are way off base on this one, Chief.  Yelling supportive comments to a young offensive line makes someone an idiot?  It's no mystery Central has struggled to run the ball all year, and two (admittedly fat) former o-linemen were just trying to encourage and fire up the young o-line.  I'm not sure why this ruffled your feathers.  Maybe the fact that the 65 YARDS ON 25 CARRIES was enough to beat your team?

I don't recall anyone yelling about playing "Central Football."  I do know that "UD Football" was used to describe the gift 1st down and 30 yards that resulted from consecutive unsportsmanlike conduct calls on the Spartans.  If this got under your skin, was it because you are sick of it as a UD fan? I know I'd be frustrated if my team gave the opponent new life on a drive and 30 yards, only because they couldn't keep their composure.

The UD contingent in the front few rows of those bleachers showed a lot of class, I suppose?  Mocking a 7 year-old kid for cheering for his older brother on the field?  Calling out individuals by name and/or number, saying they suck?  Real original.  Oh, and the ever-popular (and decidedly premature) "over-rated" chant.  Real classy.  Which one were you, lorbec?

Bleacher antics aside, it was great game to watch.  Both teams fought extremely hard and had multiple opportunities to win.  Jackson is a stud, no doubt about it.  It's too bad he and UD won't have the opportunity to make some noise in the playoffs.  Central finds a way....again.  On to the next week.

Regrading the discussion about the end Wartburg Coe game.It is disappointing and inexcusable for a coach to not shake hands after a game especially with all the talk you hear about sportsmanship being a point of emphasis.

Ash Park,

I don't know off hand.  We tailgate most of the time with the grandkids.  I will ask around and find out if there is a place.  There is a new place opening up out by the new Ford dealership but I don't know how it is.

Hey Purple, hopefully the wildfires stay away from your place.  If Cornell can't win a game for you maybe at least the wildfires will stay away from you.  We'll be sending good thoughts your way regarding the fires.

Live from San Diego:  Our home is clear where we are at, P.H. Junior can rest at ease in Mount Vernon...fires are to the North, South and East but not really near us.  Wind's whipping from East to West but it whips and swirls in random directions. Entire towns have been evacuated...out here a town has 36,000 folks!  They say 250,000 have been evacuated!   :o

It's really weird...in 2003 there was smoke and ash all around our neighborhood, the fire seemed much closer and worse...but it really wasn't close, just the prevailing winds blowing the smoke over our way.  Still all schools are closed today and tomorrow, sports activities are cancelled.   :(

At my house we have had blue skies all day and barely smell the smoke, yet it's closer and has destroyed more homes in neighborhoods where the fires are...not just shacks in the boonies like in '03...it got into some neighborhoods then but not like now.  One of the local newscasters' home burned to the ground right in front of him broadcasting...very sad.

Make no mistake, it's bad in North County San Diego...lots of folks have lost their homes.  We're lucky it's not coming our way.  But this kind of thing can change in a heartbeat so we are ready to get out if need be.  We're collecting clothes to donate as soon as they'll take it.   :'(

Keeping sending your thoughts and prayers!
