Thats right Lorbec, he had the first 3 touchdowns of the championship game, the first of which was a state championship record setting 87 yard reception.  Now he is starting as a freshman and has already set a record at Loras for yards per reception in a single game...32.0- which also leads the conference.

You should have seen me in high school too.

The point I was trying to get across was the fact that I agree with Walston.  If this guy is so great how come he isn't even in the top 10 for receivers?  Time will tell.  I do hope he does pan out.
I will give you one thing, the 19.9 avg is pretty impressive.

If he's only averaging 2 catches a game, I'm not putting him on my IIAC fantasy team...

Thats a great topic show.  I'm sure it has been done before but who would be on your IIAC fantasy team?

QB Reed Hoskins WB
RB Tyler Sherden LU
RB Chad Pearson BV
WR Duanta Peterson UD
WR Kyle Pearson LU
WR Kyle Duchman WB (having the QB WR hookup is a bonus in yahoo  :) )
WR/RB Neil Suckow COE
K Kyle Wickwire LU
Def Simpson

I definately based this off the stats only.  I'm supervising a study hall right now and if you can't tell, I'm a bit bored.

Norsefan,
Don't they pay teachers to teach??? ;D  IIAC Fantasy football is a good topic, though.

QB--Hoskins
RB--Sherden
RB--Schuring
WR--Pearson
WR--Peterson
WR--Kain
WR/RB--Suckow
K--Wickwire
Defense--Coe

There's my IIAC fantasy football team
Go Norse!!!

I will state this fact:
Almost everyone was on Hoskins after the Luther game. How Wartburg had no passing game...But he is the most consistent QB in the conference. Loras rotates, Luther rotates, Central's coach wouldn't have recruited his QB, Coe had rotated for a while, I would think that would make it hard to gel and get timing down. Could be wrong though.

Picking Hoskins as the all-league QB says something about the IIAC Offenses and what the league offers this year at the QB position.  By the nature of the schemes many of the better teams in the IIAC (like Wartburg, Coe, Central, and Luther) want to run the ball first and throw the ball enough to provide balance, but is there a truly elite QB in the league this year?

Last year I was very impressed with the Coe QB both times I saw him last year.  I thought he was very worthy of being all-league.  The current Coe QB played pretty solid against Luther, but is a clear drop from what they had last year.  The Simpson QB from a couple of years ago had gaudy stats that it looks like no one will duplicate this season.

Hoskins is a three-year starter for a good football program, so obviously he has some talent, but the Wartburg passing game is not as strong as the Wartburg running game or the Wartburg Defense.  The passing game being the weaker link of the offense and defense was apparent down the stretch in 2004 and in at least two games in 2005.  Against Luther, the Knights struggled when they had to throw the ball downfield and also struggled to throw the ball into the end zone when they had to before the end of the first half.  Screen passes were by far the most successful on that day, while interceptions or near interceptions took place when they tried to open up the passing game.  From what I can tell Hoskins numbers are based on what he mostly has done against Augsburg and B.V. and not what he did against Luther, Millikin, or Simpson.

I am not blaming Hoskins for Wartburg's problems in the passing game late last year or this year as he is just one player and the depth at WR has been an issue at times.  All I am trying to say is that the passing game has been the weaker side of that offense.

The Coe QB outplayed the Luther QBs last Saturday IMO, and the Luther QBs did not have a great day against Wartburg either.  When everyone is healthy the experienced Luther QBs may be a weaker point of that offense as the Luther OL is experienced and pretty good, Sherdan is good, and the Luther WRs also have experience, talent, and depth.  That is not meant to be a complete slam on the Luther QBs as the Norse Offense can be pretty good because of that experienced talent at many positions.  They will all need to play well against a Simpson team that is backed into a corner after losing to Central to fall to 1-2 in the IIAC.

The St. Olaf Offense was the best group that Luther has faced so far this season.  The Oles have proven that it wasn't just a good day in Decorah as they have ripped other quality teams like St. Thomas and Bethel in moving to 4-0.  I felt that Wartburg had a better overall OL and running game than the Oles, but St. Olaf's passing attack and great receiving targets were impressive.
