Not sure about Hoskins as QB for the fantasy team.  I have no idea how this fantasy team works but here are some observations.  The Dubuque QB right has just as good of numbers as Hoskins.  And why would you not want the Dutch D.  They lead in most of the important catagories.  Scoring D .8 points behing the leaders but have played one more game.  So if you guys with the knowledge can enlighten me I'd like to know your thoughts on this. How about this weekend for picks.  Central, Wartburg, Coe, and Simpson.  Simpson can get after it.  Not that I don't respect the Norse, I just haven"t seen them play as of yet.  Simpson really got after it in the second half and shut down the run in the final half last Saturday.  If Simpson plays that well I think the Norse will have a hard time running.  Good luck to all the IIAC teams
Play with Passion  Coach Ron Schipper

I'll take:

QB- Connell- Central (the kid has a lot of heart)
RB- Northern- Coe
RB- Suckow- Coe
WR- McMahon- Loras (should of made sure he went to a school with a QB)
WR- Rife- Coe
WR-Peterson-Dubuque
K- Herzberger- Coe

Defense
Pfantz, Weymiller, Staker-Coe
Kern-Simpson
Pierce-BV
Gustafson, Eichhorn-Cornell
Pollock-Wartburg
Hendrickson-Luther
Lehn-Central
Laffey- Loras
Remember, defense wins championships.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Any IIAC fantasy football team that doesn't have Herzberger as kicker is just plain wrong. And the Kohawk defense may be the league's best. On offense, you can't leave out Suckow or Northern. And TeKippe, Rife, Clapham and King are all sleepers. Then again, my NFL fantasy team is only one game better than my beloved Packers.

While I'm here, my picks:
Coe over BV in a similar bloodletting as last fall's conference title game.
Central big over Cornell.
Dubuque narrowly avoids a shutout in its loss to Wartburg. The "fastest team in the league" gains 17 yards on 23 carries.
Luther by a coin flip and home field advantage over Simpson.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

norseguy8

whats up guys...its been interesting reading all of the post this week...by the way, i was really sweet in chicago in high school...haha...

my picks for the week-
B.V. over Coe...Pearson has a break out game
Luther over Simpson...Pearson outplays Dusty Kain...its a Pearson week in the IIAC
Central over Cornell...the rams don't have a chance unless Lovely and Ditch come back for a few plays
Wartburg over Dubuque....do we need an explanation for this one...i predict 7 Spartans will be hurt and at least 1 will be kicked out of the game...it just happens..

But good luck to all teams this week...it should be fun to to end..."TRIBUTE" hit me on the cell sometime...

dbljay21

Big surprise coocoo, your fantasy team is loaded with Kohawks... :D  Just wondering why anyone would leave Sherden off their fantasy team, since he leads the league in rushing and is one of the highest scoring players in the NATION?  Just curious as to what the reasoning behind this is.

Anyway, my picks for this week...

Central over Cornell easily
Wartburg over Dubuque
B.V. over Coe in overtime
Luther over Simpson for a Homecoming victory at Carlson

norseguy8, norsefan see you guys on Saturday at Club Scoes, right?

Go Norse!!!

The reason you would leave him off your team is that he's hurt.  I heard the kohawks hit him so hard that they stopped the game four times for him to go off the field.  His longest gain was 18 yards.  I also heard from my Coe insiders that he was taken to St Lukes for x-rays on his bruised or broken ribs after the game.  Is that the case?  He obviously is a tough back but may lack durability because of his size and all the carries he receives.

Back to back games against the Knights and Kohawk defense can have that effect.  Your welcome Simpson!

.......and enough about the kid from Loras.  Let's wait until he actually does something

I was a hell of a flag football player in 6th grade, but then I got moved to line in Junior High because everyone else got faster and I stayed the same. I was still a decent player, but not the legendary quarterback I was on the White team.

I can see why Sherden may be banged up. How many carries did he have against Coe? Off all his carries in the first half against Wartburg he was averaging something like 2.5 yards a carry. His longest run was 9 then as well so he was taking a beating. Didn't something similar happen to Suckow last year? overworked and then had an injury.

Sherden got tackled so many times by my brother who is one of the hardest hitting linebackers in the league. Theres not a running back who can run over him. He would have even more tackles if the line occupied more o-lineman and would have more picks if he could catch the ball. He was so good in High School that he was the Associated Press player of the year in his class and won a state championship. He also played as a freshman and the team he was on then was 10-2. He has been on 3 IIAC championship teams. AND, my brother actually shows up in the top 10 of linebackers in the league.

Show-would you like to chime in in this game of my brother can beat up your brother? Is this not a ridiculous conversation? Who else would like to tell how good your brother is? How about someone who's brother has done something and doesn't just have potential?

My fantasy team

Hoskins (He's played 2 of the top defenses in the league so far and is still #2 in passing) Coocoo-There's no stat for heart in fantasy leagues.
RB-Sherden
RB-Pearson
WR-Duchman
WR-I would pick Schmidt but he doesn't have the QB to get him the ball
I'll take Kain here.
WR-that guy from Dubuque-I'll sit him this week.
K-Wickwire.
D-My heart says the Knights, but I'll go with the Millikin D on this one. Best I've seen this year.  For IIAC I'll take Coe
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Picks for the week

Central over Cornell (Dinosaur eats Ram)-I actually think this may be a close game, by close I mean 20-30 points.

Kohawks over BV-(Kohawk skins beaver) 10-7 Kohawks

Simpson over Luther (Storm blows Norse, sorry, that's all I could come up with)
Simpson has the athletes at reciever to shred the man-to-man D of the Norse and just enough running game to keep them off balance.
High Scoring game- 46-38.
Knights over UD-The most exciting part of this trip will be to see how many chicken legs I can down at the postgame party.
Ditto Norseguy8

If you look at his stats lasy year I really don't think there is a such thing as over working Sherden.  I ran track with this guy and I have NEVER seen anyone keep themselves in better shape.  I know track and football are completely different but the point is this guy knows how to take care of himself.  His actions will speak for themselves.

Picks for the weekend.

BV over Coe.  BV has a bad taste in their mouth from last week and they are in front of the home crowd.

Central over Cornell with an offensive showing.   ;)

Wartburg over UD.  Close in the first half and the the Warts blow them away in the second half.
(Still no 73-0, remember that one norseguy8?  You had that bogus interference call in the endzone and they still couldn't score on us.)

Luther over Simpson in another nail biter like last year against Central for homecoming.

Good luck IIAC

Oh, dbljay I will not be in D-Town.  Grandma's 83rd birthday.  Sparta will be kickin!!!

dbljay21

About the Sherden injuries, I have not heard anything officially.  I can understand having reservations about Sherden on the injury front, however, he is yet to miss a game as a running back...and I was only an average high school player, but I never came off the field.

Norsefan...Sparta is gonna be better than Club Scoes?
Go Norse!!!

The Loras fans keep talking about the McMahon kid when they should be worried about their defense.  From the way it looks, Cornell moved the ball up and down the field on them but turnovers killed them.  Also, I've heard the offense is still not clicking and injuried on the O-line spell even more trouble.  Defensively, I heard Buesing (Lb i believe) is done for a few weeks, and you've lost a number of other kids.  I looked at the Loras roster and it looks like you guys have the smallest ILB's in the conference.  I've heard that Hall (LB with Buesing) holds his own being only a soph.,  and I've heard the starter for Buesing is decent but cannot make up for losing the starter.  If I were playing the DuHawks, I'd look to pound the ball on them.

lorbec47

Kohawk--
Yeah injuries have hurt Loras. It is a bye week so hopefully that will help. The head coach said on a talk show Monday night that Buesing would be back for Simpson. Like you said, there is a lot of youth playing. However, Loras is 1 play away from being 3-2. This past week of preparation helps guys develop. I look forward to the Loras homecoming with Simpson on the 15th. The 2 inside backers this past week (Harrold and Hall) run about 215 each. Walston I'm gonna throw this at you, isn't your brother about that size? I'm not saying those guys are in the same boat, but the overall size really doesn't matter if a guy can really run and make plays. Just an opinion.

KoHawk01

Lorbec..

I saw Hall goes about 205, and Harrold I heard is about 205-210.  I saw both of them play when you guys played Ambrose (cousin plays for Ambrose); from what I saw, Hall is a definite gamer he plays much bigger than what he is, and runs better than probably any linebacker in the conference.  Harrold looked fairly solid, didn't get much of a read on him.  Anyway, good luck to you guys against simpson, way to get back on track against cornell.

Walston Hoover

Duhawk, I'm not just a jack@ss, I'm THEE jack@ss.
Lorbec, my brother runs about 205, but wrestles like he's 125, he still can't hold a candle to me there even though we're technically in the same weight class.
Regarding Sherden- I don't care how good you take care of yourself. If you have 11 guys trying to pound the piss out of you 3-400 (or even more) times over 10 weeks, That's going to take its toll.
Speaking of running backs, I ran into Dr. Tyler Molstre a few days back. We both look like we could still play. That says a lot more for him than it does for me.
Dutchfan-Have your computer figured out yet?
Lance-What's going on with your Tigers-struggling a little this year.
