I said I was dropping this topic and that was my honest intention, but I got some background today on the Raeburn-Koehler post-game blow off that casts it in a different light. I guess it's customary for coaches to meet on the field during warmups and the home coach initiates the conversation. Raeburn had some things to say, but Koehler didn't give him the opportunity. So if Raeburn was less-than a good sport after the game, it had less to do with the outcome than Koehler's own unsportsmanlike behavior before the game. At least that's how Raeburn explained it to me face-to-face today. I was on the sideline for much of warmups and I did notice Koehler come up to defensive coordinator Steve Staker and say something while Staker was chatting with another Wartburg coach. At the time, I thought it was odd he didn't approach Raeburn. I didn't think much of it then, but now I see it differently. I missed out on exclusive photos of the pre-game coaches meeting because it didn't happen.

Seriously, you miss a day or two and it takes you HOURS to recover.... pardon the lateness of some of these topics.....

Reaburn/Koehler -- OK, the classy thing to do is shake hands. Obviously. As Wartburg pointed out -- for 5-6 pages on here. We get it. We all agree. The other classy thing to do is to drop it -- rubbing noses in transgressions is about as classless as the initial act. Get over it -- it's Friday night, and the incident in question happened 7 days ago.

Yordi -- My personal feeling is this: right or wrong, athletes are held to a higher standard. They should be -- they have the distinct privelege of representing their school, and with that comes increased scrutiny. We all know this to be true -- we've all lived it. As a representative of your school, you need to carry yourself with dignity and respect. Period. This is drilled into everyone involved in the Central football program. It's yet another reason I take pride in my alma mater -- I know that the people representing the program conduct themselves with dignity and respect. I may be wrong, but I honestly don't see this happening at Central -- the program ("Tradition of Excellence") wouldn't allow it. I guess it's a difference in culture.

Honestly, Yordi being an athlete should have nothing to do with feelings on the situation. I would hope that this sort of incident would be brought up regardless of who the parties involved are -- fostering hatred is unacceptable. I think any punishment should fit the crime, if found guilty. If the matter is settled through the court system, judgement won't come until well after the season ends. Convenient.

Anyway, WH -- when will the playoff bracket come out? My roommate's cousin plays for SEP, and they should be playoff bound, too, after the win this evening....

And speaking of playoffs -- there is still regular season ball to be played. It is premature to talk playoffs until all of the scores are in. Focus on the matter at hand -- the playoff scenario will take care of itself.

Finally, Connell for MVP. :)

Go Central!

I guess I'll start the Central vs. Wartburg war a little early.Over the last week, there have been several Central posters on here extolling the virtues of their program and school.Even during our recruitment process,we were led into meetings where players, former players, administrators, and parents touted the benefits of Central,to the point of my wife asking me"are these people for real?".
When I asked a panel of former players if there was anything at all about their Central experience,on and off the field, that they didn't like ,there was no response.Six people spending four years at an institution, and they were all 100% happy 100% of the time? That is against human nature.
When at a parent meeting, another parent asked an administrator about drinking on campus, she was told"There is none because it's not allowed."This was a day after talking with a parent of a current student who just had been busted for the second time for alcohal on campus. And in talking with other students, there are parties both on and off campus.
What I'm saying is not directed to any one poster in particular, but to the institution.Central has as many skeletons in the closet and warts as any other college or university. They are just united in presenting a front that pretends these things do not happen. In talking with other parents and students,I'm not alone in this opinion. We chose Wartburg in a large part for the honesty we were treated with.We are allowd to be adults, with the benefits and consequences that go along.

Just my opinion,I'm willing to listen to any rebuttal.

Doolittle,

Got that lucky mower going?

The weather is right for mowing, so if your hex has been removed I will be mowing this afternoon!!! ;D

footballdaddy,

Not sure how to start this.  WAR?  I don't know why you choose that word.  I don't look at football and sports as war.  War is total destruction of your opponent not wanting anything left.  Break things so the "other" side can not use them.  I am happy that you found a school that fits for your son.  Is there drinking on campus at Central I would assume so by the number of empties I have seen on the ground on campus.  I can only say from my experience is that during season the team stays off the booze.  They are commited to that as a team and accountable to each other as a team.  Are there rules against beer or booze in the dorms yes there are.  Are there kids breaking these rules from the empties I have seen I would say yes.  Funny how you chose to start this "WAR" over this topic.  I am sure there are many skeletons in all the colleges in the IIAC.  I truly think that if the panel of ex football players you talked with were 4 year graduates that they were totally satisified.  If they hadn't been satisified they would have quit stayed at the college and got the degree that they went there to get, or transferred to another school and tried to get to a program that they fit into.  If they transferred to another program I don't think they would be back at the school that they transferred from giving reasons as to why your sons should go to a school that they transferred from.  It is a good thing for your son that he found a program he can be comfortable with and coaches he likes and trust.  That is all any of us can ask for as parents.  You didn't like the Central program and you thought its full of BS sorry for your conclusions.  I think that I have found that everything that was said about the program is true.  We have come to two different conclusions who is write?  I would say we both are because it worked out for both our sons.

doolittle,

The hex was only good for the length of the game last week.  I hope you haven't let the grass get over grown for fear of it.   :D :D :D :D
