Congrats to Fred Jackson for getting his first regular season playing time today.  So far he has one carry and one catch.

Good for him!

Go Kohawks!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Willie,

If you look at your post where you quote three people, I believe that it was there that it was mentioned that Jackson was a better leader.  If you look at my post the comment was not directed to you that I begged to differ that he was a better leader.  I was not picking at you personally.  I stated the reasons for my point of view.  On the more important note I am glad that you got your son to his first game.  Those are special times.

Your visit to Central was exactly like the visits we took there last year.We went three times and got the same vibe every time.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

You are correct Spurrier. That was a huge night for Wartburg and it got mentioned and the score put up on ESPN.

Walston,

Sorry about the loss Friday.  Tuff loss.  Sounds like you have some good talent coming for next year.  Hopefully they will blend with what you have coming back to make a good team.  This isn't the kind of year your school is used to having.  They usually get a game or two more.  How is that sitting with the fans are they pretty good about not making the playoffs?

One of the seniors put it pretty well about 3 weeks ago.
"I wish I could be around for 1 more year because every team we play has their best class coming through in a long time this year."
One of those years where we weren't quite as talented as everyone else and we weren't able to coach them up good enough to overcome that.

Central is probably the only school I envy, because they seem to do things the right way. Their coach always has something positive to say about the opposition. I like that.

Thanks for the quote Charlie, because I guess its the only way I can figure to explain the "cult-like" and "creepy" support that exists for Central's squad.  True, I too have my red shades on, but if people knew  Coach Schipper, the architect of the program, they would know he was the kind of guy to build that kind of loyalty.  Since most of the current coaches played for or worked with him, its an honor to say the program continues his tradition of excellence.

Having been recruited in the 1970s and a fan ever sense, I guess you can write this off as a member of the cult's mad ramblings.  Proud to Be Dutch!  Soon to be 29 championships and 19 playoff appearances!

I know I'm about 30 pages and two weeks late to chime in, but I just wanted to respond to the questions from a while back about Loras, BV, and Coach Osterberger.

I played my first 3 years at BV with Ostey as my head coach and my position coach on the o-line.

The day he announced he was leaving was, in my opinion, a great day for BV's football program.  I know there are those who disagree with me, but I can attest to the fact that the majority of the guys at BV at the time were glad to see him go.  He's a good recruiter and a decent X's and O's guy, but pretty much a huge a-hole once you get to know him and he's come out of the fake act he puts on to get you in the door.

One shining example of his lack of integrity comes to mind.  Every spring, the BV football program holds a fundraiser called the lift-a-thon, wherein the players go around collecting pledges for donations.  The money is supposed to go towards the purchase of travel sweats, workout equipment, and the like, or so we were told.  Ostey's final year at BV, we got a pretty big butt-chewing for failing to meet the fundraising goals he set for us.  The whole team was getting a new set of travel sweats, but we each had to contribute $25 because of our "lack of commitment."

The next fall, after Ostey left, I found out from one of the other coaches that the real reason we were short of funds for sweats was that Ostey had given the assistant coaches bonuses out of the lift-a-thon money and bought them all matching polo shirts and sneakers.

Great guy.  Loras can keep him, as far as I'm concerned.

there's another Series in the books, Boston's got 2 now, can the Cubs be far behind?  (answer:  yes)

Ash and Purple:  You're right, there is no quit in the Rams, some fatigue maybe, but they did appear to play hard to the end.  Dillon is moving them in the right direction, have patience.

Schuring and Connell left early in the 4th, very next series after the last score, so not much garbage time at all.  Baethke was back onthe field as well, so the Dutch continue to get healthier.   True, the Dutch back up QB didn't face a lot of pressure, but arm strength and accuracy looked good, he also made a tough completion rolling to his left

If there were an associative property to FB, the Dutch are in trouble.  Warts have handed every oponent a bigger loss than Central could. They'll be at home and a Championship and AQ will be on the line.  Not to worry though, plenty of red clad supporters will be there.

Wartburg's loss to Augsburg doesn't look so bad anymore, they'll likely end up 5-5 with 0-8 Hamline on the end of their schedule.  BV also possibly 5-5 with DBQ and Simpson ahead of them, so the difference between the Auggie win and the BV win in non-con, is nil.  With the number of 2 loss teams in second place positions, I feel the Dutch are in win or lose on the 10th, and Wartburg still has a slim chance with another loss.

I am curious as to what you mean by a cult like feel? I was recruited under Kac and played 2 years under McMartin. I think the way the program is heading now is great. I was also recruited by Willis and was turned off by his attitude during visits. Just curious to get another opinion.

The weekend result that was most helpful to an IIAC or MIAC team looking for a pool c was probably Stevens Point losing, which all but means the WIAC won't send two. Tough to see Wartburg (or Bethel) getting in with 2 Ls, although it's possible (but unlikely) for Bethel to have 2 losses and win the MIAC AQ.

If the leaders win out St John's, Central, and UWW the runners up will all have two losses.  The NWC may even have 2 losses as well as the Cali conference.  It could be the year that two of the Pool C's do get in in the West unless they ship teams to the West from the North or South.

Never knew Coach Schipper, only Kac, and now a few conversations with McMartin.
Tough to describe the creepy vibe, but for me, it was there. Like I said earlier, It wasn't for me. I've talked to some guys that graduated from there that loved it, and others that graduated from there that hated it. I'm sure you'll find that with every program.

A side note on H.S. Playoffs - anyone else here coaching in them?  I know Walston's team got knocked off.

We travel up to Hampton-Dumont for a rematch of last year's 2nd round game. Sounds like it should be a great night (weather wise) for football!
