Tell me waht makes you passionate about Central.Since you've had a son graduate from both Central and Wartburg, you have a great perspective on all the schools in the conference. Why,for instance did you choose a Central reference as a nickname, instead of Wartburg or neutral one.

You see,I don't hate Central.I don't despise everything red and white. But there are some things that don't set well with me.Even so,my daughter has been contacted by Central's softball coaches. And if she feels it's right for her,I'll back her decision 100% to go there as long as she's happy. And I'll be just as big of a jerk bragging about Central softball as I am with Wartburg football.

well jerk maybe the correct term here.  Why do you have to run the other program down.  I have never said disparaging remarks about Wartburg or any other school.  I think the IIAC is a fine conference of fine schools.  I love the competition of the sports.  But to run down another institution is asinine IMO.  You seem to have venom for Central's football program.  I am passionate about Central because I have a son there at the present time.  The son that went to Wartburg has gone on to Med school.  Both institutions are great I could have not asked for a better education for both sons.  The Central son is a senior this year and I think the education and friends he has made there are great as well.  The friends that my Wartburg son made are great as well.  I know there are some on here that have fueds with other schools and rivalries are great but to denegrate the other institution does nothing for the school you support but make you look asinine.  I am sorry that you feel your son's interests were not served at Central and sounds like your sons interests are being served at Wartburg.  Isn't that the bottom line.  Do you feel superior spouting off that Wartburg is the best?  As far as some things not sitting well with you about Central that probably goes without saying since your son chose Wartburg.  If there had been those feelings with Central my son may have chosen the Knights to play football at instead of Central.  He felt the choice for him was Central.  To go through and publicly talk about the negative feelings is just not the thing to do IMO.  That is why our kids make the decisions they do.  They find a fit and make the decision to follow their instincts.  I hope your daughter has a good recruiting visit to what ever college she chooses to visit.  I don't think that she can make a bad decision to play for an IIAC school.  Enough said here.  Both schools here are great institutions and if you want a good education you can not go wrong.  I just do not see the reason to denigrate a program.

DF2004... do you have one of the half Knight/half Dutch jerseys for FB game day?  Seems as though with a child going to each institution, you'd be caught right in the middle of the "family feud".  Are bragging rights on the line for Thanksgiving dinner this year (and all years)?  :)

To comment on your XC remark... I totally agree.  Runners are a different breed altogether.  I recently completed my first marathon, and I am by no means a runner.  The ease with which those long-distance runners perform their task is amazing!!!  It is great to see the backdoor screen work to perfection on the hardwood just as it is phenomenal to see a CB get destroyed by a hitch and go route on the football field and having the QB put it in the receiver's hands in stride.  But those runners really do have an art form down that makes such a grueling task seem so effortless.  I would definitely have to say that getting a group of runners on the same page in a competition against the voices inside them is the neatest thing to see... so yes, congrats to the Norse for a double conference chamionship!  In my years at WB, we enjoyed the same success quite often as well... it really is something!

Good luck to all teams this coming weekend!  Knights, take care of business and don't look past Cornell.  Any team in this league is capable of beating anyone else on any given weekend.  Use the last 2 weeks to build into this week.  Leave nothing on the field, and let your play speak for itself.

Finally, to answer one other post I saw on here.  I truthfully don't think the Spartans have a chance of going to the playoffs for the simple reason you put in the numbers.  If WB wins this weekend, UD is automatically a 3rd place team with losses to WB and Central.  The IIAC is not a strong shower in the playoffs in recent (and really overall) history, so I don't think the selection committee can even see anyone besides the loser of the WB/Central game as a potential pool C team.

Does anyone else in here ever wonder what goes through Don Hansen's head when he ranks football teams for his weekly rankings?  I firmly believe that UD is a top 25 or 30 program... no doubt.  Central is also definitely a Top 5.  But #38 for Wartburg?  With or without my orange-tinted glasses... that is pretty ridiculous.

dsquared,

The first couple of years were murder at thanksgiving time.  Our traditional family football game in the back yard was sometimes more than friendly.  The trash talking is now down to a minimum.  The older son being at Med school has cooled the rivalry somewhat.  He still gets his jabs in.  Also with Central winning the last two times the older son does not have much to talk about.  As for the jersey no I do not have a half and half jersey.  The older son never played college football.  He did play tennis at Wartburg made all conference in that sport as well as IIAC athlete of the week once in Tennis.  So it is not hard for me to root for Central Football so passionately.  The Wartburg Tennis team I root for just as passionately when it comes to playing Central or any other IIAC school.  The rest of the sports I root for the Knights and Dutch equally.  It is tough to keep the peace in the family some times.

You do wonder what is in his pipe at times.  I have wondered many times how he comes up with those.  Having said that this is why D3football.com is the one I trust.  The coaches poll even has some quirks now and then and you wonder what goes on in their minds.

I don't think UD has gotten the votes on D3 because of the non conference scheduling.  They have two losses to the top 2 IIAC schools and no wins against quality non conference schools.  With the as you mentioned comment on the success of the IIAC in the playoffs schools like UD after they get beat by the top two IIAC schools voters will stop the votes.  If you look at the d3 poll you will see that the WIAC schools still are getting votes.  It took LAX getting beat three times before they really moved out.  That is due to the respect of the WIAC.  I do think that UD could give some of the team in the top 25 a game and win but with out the proof of a good win over some non conference school I don't see them getting votes with 2 losses.

Well that's kind of what I was getting at.  Wartburg, because of their loss to Augsburg in some publications is ranked lower than UD.  Would you see any scenario where the selection committee over looks conference standings, head-to-head matchup and say to themselves that Wartburg has lost later in the season than UD and UD is currently playing better than Wartburg so UD would get in at the expense of Wartburg?

With the WIAC and MIAC having some 2 loss teams we might see a 2 loss IIAC team make it into the playoffs.  I wouldn't think it would be right for UD to get in at the expense of Wartburg but I just wonder what would go through the heads of the selection committee.

DutchFan2004

doolittle,

I think they would look at the head to head game if it came down to it.  I don't think IMO that the majority on the selection commitee would vote to take a team that had lost to a team on a previous occasion.  Wartburg would finish second in the IIAC and UD third.  So even with the same record Wartburg by their win over the Spartans would get the nod.  I know that you want them to make it but I don't see many two loss teams making it, having said that this may be the year that more than usual two loss teams may make it.  I know that is not what you want to hear but it that is IMO the most likely thing to happen.

I've never had anything but the utmost respect for the Central football team and it's coaches.I've even congratualed them and their players on this board at times.I've had the plasure of spending quite a bit of time with Coach Mac,and he's an upstanding and passionate man, along with being a very good football coach.

Instead of carrying this on further,I'll just say we agree to disagree on some points.I wish you and your family all the best.I hope your son has great career at Central, and your other son all the success in med school.

footballdaddy - Please learn to put spaces after your periods. It makes your posts incredibly hard to read and tends to make me think less of your comments. It is like when the guy from DBQ was on here (you guys know who Im talking about...just can't think of his name!) Spelling errors and minor mistakes aside it is very painful to read your posts. Thanks.

Dsquared - I agree with you, I think Dubuque is a Top 30 to 35 team however having them ranked ahead of Wartburg is rediculous. I think that if you want to look at polls look at Pat's or AFCA, ignore Don.

Dubuque making the playoffs = no chance IMHO. No offense to the Spartans but there will be a 2 loss team in 2nd place in the MIAC or WIAC that will likely go first, along with Linfield perhaps. The committe can always move schools from other regions to the West. I feel fairly comfortable with Central in right now regardless and Wartburg has an outside shot if they lose a close one to the Dutch. It would be great if all 3 got in but that wont happen. And there is no way you can justify Dubuque ahead of Wartburg when Wartburg won the head to head so they get the tie breaker. Just my 2 pennies.

As for the whole knocking Central recruiting thing. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and every school is different. I strongly disliked the feel on my visits to Wartburg and Dubuque while I felt accepted by the players I met and ate with at Central. I am glad for my decision and I think every future IIAC player must make the decision that feels best to him after visiting every school he would consider. I disagree with the "cult" words, Central football is a close knit family of guys who bust their a$ all year round in order to win and I wouldn't trade anything for the 4 years I spent playing ball there.

Since I'm in the apology mode, I'll apologise for my typng and spelling. Since I'm just a lowly mecahanic who never took typing or went to college, you'll just have to bear with me. I'll try to do better in the future.

Dutchfans- It was asked earlier a few pages back about our visits to Central. We didn't just start posting negative things at random. I posted exactly what I thought and it turns out footballdaddy had some of the same thought. Let me assure you I don't know who he is and he is not my daddy. Our visits took place 8-9 years apart and they sound pretty similar. We were asked to elaborate so don't be so offended by our opinions.
Like I said, I have utmost respect for Central and their program and what's been accomplished, but what I experienced on my visit was not for me.
I felt Wartburg had the same type of "family" atmosphere and a bunch of guys that worked hard for each other, and at that time it seemed like something very special was about to happen in Waverly.
*We did beat Central 3 of 4 years I was in school as well so that was kind of fun.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Footballdaddy,
-k for that.  I have known President Roe for 5 years now.  There is not a more kind or good man at any institution.  I really like and respect President Ohle (spelling) at Wartburg as well.  President Roe is a former General in the Air Force and has a great sense of pride and duty. He is also proud of his college.  I feel the same about President Ohle at Wartburg.  He really loves that school.  Having had two sons one each attend Central and Wartburg I have found that what you have said applys at both schools.  The people you talk with at both schools show the best possible side of that school.   Your attempts at explaining the vibe continually smack of attacks.  I think that your "vibe" is totally subjective.  I don't know how many ways you can say you don't like Central but I think we all have gotten the message LOUD AND CLEAR.

DutchFan -k for you.  No reason to take karma away from a man who is speaking his honest opinion.  He clearly stated and backed up with great points why he felt creeped out.  I have visited the Central campus and felt the same way.  I have respect for the Central program, I also did not play at an IIAC school that has won a conference title in the last decade.  But I chose to go a differnt route for those reasons.  Think what you want to think, but do not penalize a man for speaking his mind.  I did not see Purple Heys -k anyone when people on this board were speaking there mind about Cornell is rather strong tones.

Hey take my option for what its worth.

Congrats to BV on rebounding from last years disapointing loss to Waldoff with a nice win this past Saturday.

I would love to see Dubuque and St Olaf get in. Both teams are explosive enough to play with most everyone on their good days, but that won't happen for all the reasons that have been given. I just don't think their is any chance of a two loss IIAC team getting in, it just isn't in the numbers.
There are currently 33 teams that are either undefeated or have one loss. There are already 3 teams with two losses that will get AQs, with the possibility of a few more. Also a good chance that 1 pool B team will drop down and take a pool C spot. If my math is correct, at the very least, 4 of the current undefeated and one loss teams won't get in. Thats to say nothing about some of the two loss teams from (power conferences) that probably will get in.
