It was only a matter of time before the Coe offense would gel. Another stellar defensive effort too. Way to go Kohawks! Now we can finally begin thinking about/preparing for Wartburg. It's going to be quite a contest.

Well this is the big week isn't it.  The Coe/Wartburg game and Central?Luther.  The winners of the Central/Wartburg game will still be in the hunt.  Wartburg will be back into the hunt with a win.  Just a question about the Rose bowl rule.  Hasn't Coe been in the playoffs since Central? Didn't they qualify three years ago with an at large bid.  So if it goes by the team that has appeared last won't that put Central with the automatic bid? Just asking because if its a ture Rose Bowl Rule I think Central has not been to the playoffs longer than Coe.

Please let me know its just a question for clarification not meant to inflame.

The IIAC's Rose Bowl rule would only come into effect in the event of a three-way tie where all three tied teams split against the other two.

But I don't have any special insight as to how the conference would apply it. They may give it to the team that has been out of the playoffs the longest (Central). Or they may use it to eliminate the tied team that has been to the playoffs most recently (Wartburg) and then use the head-to-head result to separate the two remaining tied teams.

Its the latter, Pat. We got that clarified by the conference powers that be last year.

Thanks, That clarifies it.  I just didn't know what the ruling would be.  So Wartburg has everything to gain and lose this week as do Luther and Central Correct?  Coe is the only one that with a loss is not out of it correct?

Central is ranked #25.

Does anyone know the best IIAC scenario for the rest of the season???

I Know.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I know too CooCoo. It involves continued effort and focus by the Kohawks -- and their fans. Nothing has been accomplished yet. But the seeds have been planted for a special season. Another test awaits next week. But this thing is far from finished.

This talk of ties for the conference title is a litte premature.  With the schedule the way it is, Wartburg seems to be the last line of defense to stop Coe from a perfect record in conference play.  After Saturday Coe will have played all the contenders.  Only the pretenders are left on their schedule.

Truth is, I'm not sure the Knights are up to the task.  I hope they are.  OctoberFest will be more fun if it follows a Wartburg victory.

Another amazing week in IIAC football.  And it only gets better this weekend.

First off, what a great Homecoming for the Norse.  Down 20-6 at the half and not one person in the locker room was ready to quit.  Four years ago, the game would have been over, but they battled back for the win.  Defense played outstanding only giving up 246 yds to a dangerous Simpson offense.  Llamos steps up in the second half and gives the running attack a spark.  Another freshman with potential for the conference to watch over the next couple of seasons.

Dominating performance by Coe at BV.  I didn't hear any stats from the game, but the score indicates a good old a$$ whooping.  Well done, Kohawks.  Sounding like Wartburg played a good game as well against an athletic Dubuque team.

Wartburg vs. Coe and Luther vs. Central...exciting games with a lot riding on them.  Predictions to come later this week.  Is everybody healthy after this weekend?
Go Norse!!!

Wartburg travels well for every sport...As a Norse, I hated looking across the field and seeing that sea of Orange on the West side of Carlson stadium, but I can respect the dedication of the WB fans.  Central also travels well, but I think the Knights have to have the most fans at every game.

What's the deal with the storm? lack of halftime adjustments? I know Wartburg really whooped 'em in the second half as well.

The Storm turned the ball over three times in the third quarter...two fumbles and an interception.  One fumble happened in the redzone and the interception was in their end of the field.  I don't know what kind of adjustments were made, but, the Storm were running the same plays that were successful in the first half.  Lots of screens, draws and crossing routes.  IMO, it was good defense by the Norse and lack of execution by the Storm.

Walston Hoover,

Could you help me out.  I am planning on going to the game and was wondering if, like Pella, there is a good place to watch the game while my kids  runaround within eye sight.  I don't want to bother the other fans.  My kids are toddlers so sitting in the stands doesn't last long.

coocooforcohawks:

Yes, there is a grass area north of the visitor's bleachers for your little KoHawks.  It is a fenced stadium so they won't get lost. :'(

Your only concern should be that they will become brain washed by the huge "BE ORANGE"  banner that hangs directly behind you.  You will probably have to pay tuition at Wartburg in about seventeen years. ;)

Stop by and say hello.   Because of OctoberFest after the game, we won't be having our usual tailgate fare but there will still be plenty to eat and drink.  Look for the orange and black flag on the orange flag pole a block over from the stadium.  :D

It was mentioned above that Wartburg is the last line of defense to stop Coe from going undefeated, but I would also add that Simpson is capable of beating Coe or any other IIAC foe on a given day.  Wartburg however is the best line of defense left on the Coe schedule.

It may be a race among Coe, Central, Luther, and Wartburg for the crown, but after watching Simpson this weekend I can say there is not much that separates them from what I saw of Coe the week before.  Coe has a more consistent offense and a much better running game, but Simpson (like Coe) has played pretty well on defense for most of the season.

Turnovers and how well Wartburg is clicking in the passing game will be huge for the game in Waverly.  With it being a home game for the Knights I would actually favor them if you could tell me that the passing game will at least hold its own weight in this big game.
