COE GUYS!!!!
Send me your nominations.
I only have 1 voter represented from Coe right now and I know there are more of you here. At least there was when you were fighting for a conference championship 3 years ago. ;D
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Does Central still get in when Wartburg beats them by 30+???

Im doubting for 1) that will happen especially without Yordi...the Dutch take advantage of mistakes like no other team in the conference...and young inexperienced QB's make mistakes, its inevitable 2) I think Central has assured itself of a playoff spot as most of the other Pool C teams in the region will have 2 losses barring upsets.

Wartburg has more to worry about than beating Central by 30+ Cornell pulled the upset in 2001...watch out Knights! ;) (threw that in for you PH and Ash!)

That 2001 team was a pretty good team and I felt like things were looking up for Cornell.....then they hire Reasland...uhh I just get frustrated thinking about that.

That would be news to me about Yordi, if true.
Regarding Wartburg v. Cornell 2001-
Cornell was 7-3 and Wartburg was 8-2 so I don't know how big of upset that was.
(We did whoop Central later on though)

That's what I was thinking as well W-H about the 2001 game. I think at first many thought it was an upset but then as the year went on that Cornell team showed they were a good team and it ended up not being that big of an upset if one at all. Who else did you guys lose to that year?

Outgained Coe something like 420-150 and lost 10-6.
One of those kind of games where it just seemed like we were in control the whole time, just not on the scoreboard.

Mind you, I don't think Central will lose this one, but should the unexpected happen, when does the Rose Bowl rule come into play? Central made a playoff appearance last season, so a one loss Central team vs a one loss Wartburg team -- wouldn't that send the 'Burg to the postseason by default? OR, does the Rose Bowl Rule only apply to a three way tie. (I'm old -- I'm forgetting the details....) I remember this situation happened a few years ago with a three way tie between Central-Coe-Wartburg....

Rose Bowl rule only applies if there is a tie in conference.  If Wartburg wins this weekend, there will be no tie for the conference championship.

D squared is correct-Rose Bowl rule takes out the last team to make the playoffs in a 3-way tie, and from there the champ is determined by head to head.

I will give that one to you. Congrats on the whooping of Central and losing the Conference Championship that year though! :)

As far as playoffs, a three way tie this year (the situation that needs the rose bowl rule), is guaranteed to not happen because every team except for Central and Wartburg has at least 2 conference losses, the most that Central will have is 1, Wartburg 2.

Wartburg has beat Central a few times, but I believe Central is 35-11 against Wartburg since 1961.  In every series, the lesser school/program will have a few good years.   ;D

I always thought whooping, as in to whoop, was something that involved an uncontrollable, protracted cough...or used as "the Cornell fans were whooping and hollering in Ash Park after the 26-10 whuppin' applied by the Rams to the Kanigits."

As follows then the slang whupping or more commonly whuppin', is slang as in to whup, where it is applied where one puts a whuppin' to their orange-haired step-child...or used as "the Cornell fans were whooping and hollering in Ash Park after the 26-10 whuppin' applied by the Rams to the Kanigits."

Now can PH get suspended for the "oranged-haired step-child" comment?

Just Kidding.

As for the Yordi situation...the world is constantly evolving and changing.  People seem to be more sensitive now than before.  When you get to college you are thrown into a whole new diverse community than what many students have experienced before.  I graduated with 36 kids.  There were no minorities in my high school...just a bunch of white norweigen kids whole love their lefsa.  My junior year we were informed that the use of the word "gay" or "fag" or any other homosexual term would be punishable as if you dropped the "f-bomb".  As a small town culture we were used to using those terms as a negative, not towards homosexuals but just as a slang term.

I agree Yordi needs to be punished.  More than one game???  Seems exessive.  Not positive, but I would assume this is just a ploy to wait until the Cornell game to suspend him.  Why not last week when the Knights beat Simpson 41-5...Suckow would have still been there to score 4 TD's (well at least two that were rushing TD's).

2 Thoughts:
First - Playoffs: IIAC only gets 1 team.  If Central loses, no style points in victories.  A Wartburg loss would give them 2 on the season (and 1 pretty bad one - from where Augs was at the time).  The conference doesn't (and shouldn't) get the same respect outside Iowa anymore.  I know I'm killing people here, but when's the last time a team has won 2 games in the play-offs? Since 2001, the conference is 1-9 in the play-offs and the one win was the 2003 Wartburg team that was by far the best team this decade.

Second - Yordi: I'm looking at this, not from an institutional standpoint, but from a coaching standpoint.  The kid went to jail.  Harassment, Public Intox, DUI, Assault - doesn't matter.  Student-athletes are not just students and are held to a higher standard of behavior.  It is a priviledge to play collegeiate sports.  Koehler should have sat him against Loras for the first quarter (which it wouldn't have mattered anyway) for being a dumb-ass.  Then further punishment should come down once the facts are sorted out.  It's a safe bet that the police in Waverly do not have a hard-on for arresting Knights - probably quite the opposite from the stories I've heard about the KnightHawk - so Koehler could've come looking like a strict disciplinarian instead of a coach that just wants to get the W at any and all costs.

1) I beg to differ, if you look around the region and the nation Central would be one of the strongest 1 loss teams out there, and a Yordi-less Wartburg team will have a tougher time against a opportunistic Central squad. Granted that the IIAC hasnt had much success lately but the west region is also tough. I see Central as about as much of a lock for the playoffs as you can get with 2 weeks to go. If SJU loses to Bethel it will definitely mess things up though.

2) This does sound fishy, is it a ploy? Id like to think not coming from an institution that prides itself on its student-athletes. Is there a "win at all costs" mentality in Waverly...maybe. It would look real bad for them to suspend him indefinitely now...and the revoke that next week. Either way it sounds like hes been in trouble in college before. As the QB he is the leader, he needed to keep his head on his shoulders and make smarter decisions.

3) Wartburg has had fun recently with Coe having transfers to Wartburg with T-shirts and the like. I suppose if someone was to poke fun at Wartburg now it would taken as offense and "innappropriate"? :)
