Old Dutch

As much as the WB defense makes me nervous, and the comparative scores should make us underdogs at  WH, I just can't see the Dutch losing through all their successes in close games.

My crystal ball says Central blocks a punt ("OHH Nooooo . . . .not '05 again" is wailed from the home faithful) and takes an early lead.  From there it goes back and forth until the 4th qtr, when Connell sends a Favre-like 82 yard bomb to Smith.  it sails beyond the outstretched  hands of Weber and the Dutch take the lead.  Given the lead in the 4th, the Dutch D is dominant.

What was once will be again and the Warts will be left out just like before.  Go Dutch!

Nah, we won't have to punt so don't worry about blocking one.

This will be a fun week watching all the talk back and forth from the Wartburg and Central fans.  Their prognasticating from the preseason has come true.  Both teams undefeated (in conference) coming into the final weekend of the season.

hahaha I guess you had better hope not because otherwise it will be another long day for the Wartburg special teams unit. Hopefully Koehler has them working on protection this week! Saw in an article about the Cornell game that Suckow is "doubtful", Im doubtful of that. He wont miss this game unless his leg is about to fall off Im sure!

That will be even more impressive when we win without starting QB and without Suckow.

I believe Koehlers quote on Yordi was "being reviewed."  Personally I hope they are both playing, I dont want to hear all your Knight excuses when we beat on ya again up in Waverly!

re:
"I was just pointing out a fact, I didnt see him around and how wouldnt it be suspicious?"

Question:  How can you say you didn't see him around at the game when in your previous post a few pages back, you mentioned that you don't even know what he looks like?   sounds difficult to me

Does Central still get many Pekin-Packwood  kids there?  I'm too lazy to look at their roster.
I went to Central's football camp before my jr yr and I stayed in a dorm that was all Pekin kids.  I know Coach Stone was an alum there.

There were some kids wearing jerseys on the sidelines, thats all I meant by that. Our middle linebacker is a Pekin kid, other than that Im not sure if there are many others on the roster at the time. Coach Stone is a good guy.

Couple things to say at the beginning of a big week...

On Yordi's suspension:  Wartburg, like many D3 schools, has a Student Conduct Committee that regularly investigates and reviews actions taken by all students.  They finished up their investigation this week and made the recommendation that Yordi be put on the bench.  I'm not a real big fan of that, since there's that whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing we have in this country, and for the fact that it does raise the appearance of impropriety.  That said, Wartburg President Jack Ohle (with whom the final decision ultimately rests) is a former D3 football player and coach, so he knows just how iffy the timing of the suspension looks.  Now that the kid has been punished, hopefully he and the rest of the Knights can put this behind them and focus on football.

On the big game Saturday:  I'm really hoping I will be there.  I have Pella High football to cover Tuesday night, along with both Pella and Pella Christian in the State Volleyball Tournament, plus the Central volleyball team in the NCAA Regional.  Not sure where Central will be playing yet, but as I understand things, I'll follow them until they are done, then go to the HS volleyball for whatever is left, and then to the Wartburg-Central football game.  Needless to say, I'd love to be in Waverly on Saturday, but I can't make any promises yet.  Just going to have to play it by ear I guess.

sportsknight's observations re:  the Student Conduct Committee investigation and "innocent until proven guilty" points out the double-sidedness (if there is such a word) of rules, behaviors, and consequences.

For the investigating committee to come up with a recommendation that Yordi be put on the bench is an indication that he was in violation of the Student Conduct Code ... not necessarily that Yordi broke any laws.  That will be a matter for the appropriate authorities and processes to decide.   In effect, there is a difference between "guilt" under the student code and "innocence" under the law.

Whether we deal with institutions of higher education or professional associations, there are behaviors which may be legal but also are just plain stupid.  And when any institution or profession establishes expecations for behaviors, crossing those boundaries must have consequences if the institution or profession is to have any integrity at all.

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

I now realize how the Central/Wartburg week impacts us in so many ways.  I  just returned from Hy-Vee where I had picked up a dutch apple pie for dessert tonight.  I thought about it for a couple seconds and decided German chocolate cake was probably more appropriate this week.

I wasn't disputing that. Although its only 6-4.
Only 1 time have you beat us in Waverly in the last 10 years though. Don't make it sound like its been a series that you've dominated. Its 5-5 over the last 10 years and soon to be 6-4 in favor of the Knights after Saturday.
