I haven't been on here is a couple of days and all of the talk is great for the board, but bad for catching up.  I have a question to Knight fans.....

I know Yordi isn't playing, but I didn't find out why.   Maybe I just didn't go back far enough.  If someone could be so kind as to give a quick synopsis of the situation i would be appreciative.  I have heard rumors about him recently, but nothing concrete.

Yordi was suspended for last week's game, and no one is saying what his status is for this week, but it looks like he might be gone for this game too.

I thought it would be kinda fun to see what you guys think about the spread for this weeks games.  These are my personal spreads (Vegas didn't return my phone call)

Luther @ Dubuque - UD gives 4

BV @ Simpson - BV gives 5

Cornell @ Coe - Coe gives 17

Central @ Wartburg - Central gives 3 (this is assuming that Yordi is out.  If this was
Vegas the line would be off for this one.)

KCDutch, where do you live down here and how often do you go to the OP(135th or 81st?)
Devine, I live near K-7/K-10 abd my OP of choice is the newer 135th street one.  I've got a couple of girls under the age of 3 (infant and almost 3 year old) so I haven't made it down to the OP as much this fall.  Prior to this year, I went frequented the OP for most Iowa football games.  I kinda stick out at the OP (so you may realize who I am), I'm about 30, white, short hair and probably 15 lbs or so overweight......Where do you live and which OP do you patronize?

Defensive holding during those type of situations is the same as offensive holding. WH you know what Im talking about..it happens every play by all 5 guys up front but only the blatantly obvious holds get called. Same with defensive holding. Speaking of Olines, Wartburgs doesnt look nearly as huge as they did back a few years.

That was the point of emphasis. Its not the defensive guy throwing an offensive guy aside, or grabbing on that's a hold. Its pulling him out of the way to open up a gap for someone else that is the holding.
When you take Andy Heitmann off the OL, its going to look tiny no matter who else you put in there.

My point is that with so many people on the line of scrimmage its nearly impossible to see holding, offensive, defensive, or on special teams.

In the Bronco's and Packers Monday Night game a couple of weeks ago, one of Denver's D-Linmen got called twice in a quarter for defensive holding.

Question for anyone know may know:  How would this year's offensive line for Wartburg compare with those in the past?   How do they match up against he Central front 7 or 8?  Does Central still play the 3-5?

DutchFan2004

I can not speak to how the lines match up.  I haven't studied it and have not seen the Wartburg team.

Yes the Dutch still play the 3-5

Offenses are similar between the teams as far as output goes.
Defensive-wise, Wartburg has a huge advantage.
I know there were some protection issues with Connell's "rhinos" earlier in the year and that's not good when your going up against the defense with the highest sack total in the conference.

Walston,

No question that Waretburg leads in sacks.  IIAC games Wartburg is averaging about 1 more per game than the Dutch.  The Dutch give up about 2 a game and the Knights about 1.5 per game.  This is what a total of three plays that are an advantage to the Knights.  If that is the difference I will go with the Senior QB rather that a sophmore or freshman in the biggest game of thier career to this point.  A seasoned QB with having played in what will be his third championship game and a veteran of two playoffs IMO the stats do not out weigh the experience factor.  I don't think your spin will make that big of difference this year.  We saw last year and I believe it was a Junior against a Sophmore (correct me if I am wrong) that the Sophmore didn't stand up at crunch time.  The Knights wilted in OT and that is where the Dutch are at their best.  In tight games they just seem to find a way to win.

If we're throwing out stats, the why are the Central backers making such a big deal about their special teams? Or do we just throw out the stats of your choosing? If the Wartburg sack advantage works out to about three a game, who's to say that the game doesn't hinge on those plays? Three sacks or one punt block? Depending on the game situation, they can mean nothing or everything. I'll take my chances with the Knights substututes over Central's offense vs. our defense anytime.

Long live the Evil Empire!

Your posts is correct but who is to say that the Central sacks won't be the tidal wave is my point.  I think that the stats are meaningless as these two teams are not in those stats yet.  My point was that if you are relying on those three plays to turn the tide I am relying on the experience of out team to make sure that the difference does not come down to that.  The bottom line is the game is what the game will be.  What happens will happen no matter all the stats and bantering back and forth.  The players will get this settled on the field as it should be.  All this posting is worth exactly what you, I and all the posters have paid for it, which is exactly $0.   ;D ;D ;D ;D
