Voice of the Dutch

I'm sure this isn't breaking news...but Central Coach Jeff McMartin is "planning for the game as if both Yordi and Suckow are playing, and he'd be shocked if both of them weren't out there ready to go".

Credit to ESPN's "College Gameday" for going to a D3 game this week.  Too bad they picked the wrong one.  Nothing against Williams and Amherst, I know they've been playing each other since the dawn of time.  But you'd think that if ESPN was going to make the gesture to cover a D3 game, they'd go to one with some meaning (like the game in  Waverly).
HA! After the "College Gameday" crew's last visit to Iowa, I imagine it'll be a long, long time before they return to the Hawkeye state.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Yeah, because one of the biggest crowds the show's ever had was probably really discouraging.

Good call on the Gameday sportsknight. I believe the first words out of their mouths when it came time to broadcast were "WOW." It was an amazing gameday atmosphere.

"There's respect but a huge rivalry there," Weber said. "I have a ton of respect for (Tim) Connell and (Vance) Schuring and their guys, but I'm definitely not friends with any of them."

"I'm sure they don't like us a whole lot and we don't like them," Wartburg offensive lineman Ben Hogan said. "That's why it makes it fun."

Good to see the Knights are running their mouths... didn't they learn anything from their quarterback about that?!?

Too soon?? haha I don't care!

I heard today that starting next year Coe and Cornell are going to start a traveling trophy for the football teams. Not sure on the details of what it is going to look like but I'm pretty sure it is going to have something to do with the Lincoln Highway. Anybody from Coe know anything of this?
I haven't heard anything new on this since Cornell spurned Coe's efforts to get it started in recent years. It would be appropriate to start next year though, since the game is in Mount Vernon. That way the "traveling" trophy would at least have the opportunity to travel back to Cedar Rapids.

I think that was due partly to the AD Cornell had at the time. The interim AD now is pushing for it and hopefully when they hire the new AD he/she will push it forward as well.

Running their mouths?  I think these quotes are no brainers.  Running your mouth is something I will be doing on here as soon as the Knights shut out the dutch and win by 3 scores ;D

I will miss all you crew tomorrow ... along with the broadcast of UD's win over Luther.

I received payment for a wedding I recently did in the form of two tickets to the Notre Dame - Air Force game ... so even though its a down year for the Irish ... a Saturday afternoon in Notre Dame stadiium with the Irish Guard, those gold helmets, Touchdown Jesus in the background, and ghosts and echos is not something to be frowned on.  This completes my service academy trifecta as I now will have seen Army, Navy and Air Force football.

But of course ... Go Spartans!

Doolittle,

A enterprising person would be going to Clutier by way of Wartburg and run out of gas and have four flat tires.  Then while the car was being fixed he could attend the game. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Warty,

Will all the Warthogs be at the game tomorrow, including the little Warts and Baby Wart? You should have quite the barnburner.

If Lance shows up, please give him Mrs. C's regards.

Play safely, everyone. No injuries.

Ahh, that makes more sense.  Having sat a couple rows behind the Iowa bench, I can attest to that being a real uglyfest.

The Show

However, the atmosphere at that game has been the best I've experienced at any level thus far.

WCF courier quoted the suspension as "indefinite", to those WB backers who ripped on me for using that earlier. Wartburg has to mount some offense to win tomorrow. No Yordi, a banged up Suckow, Centrals D is the bend dont break type. Wartburg just doesnt have enough to get it done, Central knows how to win tough, close games. Wartburg, not to the abilities of the Dutch. Im going to quit rambling now and let the men do the talking on the field for me tomorrow. Its 330am and I wont sleep till the games over, gonna be a long morning! Its always sweet to get the IIAC trophy on someone elses turf! Go Dutch!!

I hope your Army game experience came in Michie Stadium at West Point.  IMO, the greatest game day atmosphere in college football.  Was lucky enough to work at the Academy for 12 years and never missed a home game or Army/Navy Game (except when it was played in the Rose Bowl in '83).  Even when the Black Knights were down, no better setting for college football!

That thought definatly crossed my mind.  I was to meet my wife there with our son after the Hawkeye game and his nap, because she would have gone there straight after taking our girls to dance class.  BUT, our 4 year old started throwing up last night about 8pm and didnt stop doing so on an hourly basis untill about 4am.  Then our 2 year old decided 5:30 was a pretty good time to wake up for the day.  So I'm thinking there won't be any trip to Clutier and we will all just hunker down here at home.  Plus, we just got 4 new tires put on both our vehicles so I'm thinking my wife would not have bought my car breaking down story.  But it would have been a good idea.

I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of the people on here this afternoon.  And, with my wife's favorite color being orange, and with me having a lot of black.  I would have been dressing in the home colors today!!!

Everybody have fun out there today wherever that may be.  Last week of conference wide football!!!

I will edit this to say, if I ever attend a game in Pella in which Dubuque is not playing, I will find some red and white to wear.  I'm thinking if you ever attend a game in which you don't have a rooting interest, it is probably a good idea to show up in the home teams colors.  ;)
