It's refreshing to be on a message board that is positive and where the posters have common sense and rationale. I spend some time looking at the Hawks boards and the people on there are so critical of the coaches and players it's kind of sickening.

I love the big game atmosphere at Kinnick, Hawkeye football and everything that goes with it, particularly the tailgating. :) ....but DIII really is pure college football.

Of course we like to do some talkin' back and forth but when it all comes down to it, there are a ton of quality individuals that make up the IIAC and DIII in general.

Congrats to all the guys on their accomplishments on and off the field.

Now let's go take care of Olivet!

Well when your fans have to pay what $45 a ticket (unless it's the Iowa/Iowa State game $90, that was for you Walston  :D)and pay another $10-$20 for parking and then if you have "donations" to get your season tickets I think that there is going to be a sense of entitlement to gripe as they have paid a bundle and the coaches are making a bundle to make sure that they put a winning team out there.  Your comments about this being pure football is correct.  These kids are here for the love of the game.  While the coaches are a paid position many of the assistants are not.  They do it for the love of the game as well.  I have said all along that IIAC football and D3 in general gives you a great value for your money.  The games played are entertaining and well played for the most part.  (all our teams have an off game or two)  But for a family of 4 it will cost $24 at most for the schools to go to the games and if you get a hot dog and soda for those same 4 people it won't be more than $15. $39 bucks for a whole afternoon of fun for a family pretty good deal if you ask me.  Go with the prices above its at least $100 to get into a game and then I'm guessing $10 a head for food so that comes to $110 and I'll throw a guess that the program is what maybe $5-$8 so you are at least $115 and then gas on top of that as I know that Iowa City and Ames are treks for most people.  When people travel to away games there is that involved too but I think most people travel farther for D1 than D3.  So IMO they may gripe more than most since there are major bucks involved.  We may get a little testy with each other here but when it comes down to it we are all pretty easy to get along with.  Just be glad we don't have Touchdown Tommy on here ;D

Great story about UD jackson on D3 around the west

Thunderbolt

I've said all along , that I thought Connell, for all the reasons already stated. But when you look at some of these numbers, its not all that clear.
Jackson: #1 in scoring offense D-3  126 points
               #7 in total offense D-3 3077 yards
Sherden: #4 in rushing yards D-3 1575 yards
                 # 1 in all purpose yards D-3 2220 yards
Can you see a three way tie?

Here is a question, and maybe I am reading way to much into this.  I went to the Central website to check out their football facilities, to see some pictures of the new field/track/stadium.  All of the links say that this page is currently unavailable.  Here is my question, is this coincidence, or is Central keeping Olivet in the dark of what the facilities look like?  Also, would Central gain any kind of advantage by keeping Olivet in the dark???

I just accessed the site just fine....

Wow...I've been so busy at work that I haven't had a chance to check out the board.  Lots of talk on here and I don't want to repeat what has been said, bu it was a sad day on Saturday when the Knights lost to the Dutch, but hats off to Central.  They are the better team this year.  They beat Wartburg when it mattered.  They went undefeated all year so they are the IIAC champs.  Wartburg had chances to win it and couldn't do it.

Three ... I am struck by at least a few WB fans who are PO'd that for two years in a row, the Warts got left out of the playoffs.  That seems to me to be ... in part ... because last season and this season the Warts lost to two teams they should have handled ... UD in 2006 (GO SPARTANS!) and Augsburg in 2007.

That quote above from DBQ1965 says it all.  The Knights can only point a finger at themselves.  They should have made the playoffs last year, but choked in the last game of the year.  Same with this year against the Auggies.  UD and Augsburg had nothing to lose and Wartburg had everything.  Having listened to both of those games it sounded like the Knights looked past these opponents.  Let's hope the coaching staff can change that attitude around in Waverly before next fall.

Good luck Central this weekend.  As I've said before, I am new to the history of the IIAC, but Central always is mentioned whenever I talk about the Iowa Conference.  They truly are a "dynasty" in some aspects and would definitely be one if they came home with a national title this year.

Agree with you for the most part and have a question for further insight on another.  One glaring differnece is that you can pay that money to go see the Hawks play (insert a team) and see future NFL talent as well as see some of the best talent the region has to offer regarding football.

Now correct me if I am wrong but arnt our big three college coaches actually state employees?  I know there is a list that comes out and Capt. Kirk is amoung the top paid state officials.  Since its a state school and funding comes from the state, can I make a point that our tax dollars along with athletic department dollars pay for these mens salaries?  If this is true then I can understand why people gripe.  Its our tax dollars.  If no portion of the salary is paid by tax dollars then people just need to grow up.

Regarding Iowa fans.  I am a huge one but they need to grow up a bit and not expect a first year starting quarterback to lead them to the sugar bowl this year IMO.

My tuition was a bundle!  Let the bitch fest begin! ;)

I think another reason that a lot of people show more respect than in higher divisions is the fact that most of us knew all of the players on our respective teams, personally.  Some alums are still close with current players, as well.

I enjoy that the most, actually.  There's no "A-Rod sucks" discussion going on because we know Joe D3 Football Player was probably tired because he was cramming for a final that week, and he was my study partner in that class...and he just had a bad game.  Plus, most of us all graduated from our respective institutions...and have a solid heads on our shoulders (with the exception of myself, of course...I skipped a lot of classes to play Techmo).

DutchFan2004

Well they are State Employees.  I don't think if you check the budgets that there is no state dollars allocated to pay coaches salaries.  I have never looked into a budget at a d3 school.  So I do not know where the money for coaches salaries comes from.  I am sure it comes from the tuition but have no facts to back that up.

This was a few pages back but we were talking about athletes that were getting recognized for academics.  On the Coe website it states that "CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- Junior Tommy Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team today as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America."   This is a great accomplishment for a guy that only comes off the field for punt and kickoff
