Another score here and give them reason to lay down at half time.

80 yard TD drive - Connell 22 to Leuschen

24-14 Central with a minute left in the first half

Not that it matters, but shouldn't there have been a 15 second run off of time , with an offensive penalty in the last minute of the half?

Voice of the Dutch

I believe that's just an NFL rule - a 10 second runoff.

24-14 Central at the half

I think that would be a good rule at any level. Shouldn't be able to stop the clock and get a free play with an illegal procedure penalty.

Not that there was too much debate, but Tim Connell is really backing up the IIAC MVP selection. Love seeing the other offensive players getting some scores.

I have a friend that played for Valley last year and went to Luther this year. He repeatedly said that he thought playing at Luther (or any D3 school) would be a step down from his HS days. I think WH hit the nail on the head with the "holier than thou" comment earlier.

I'm wondering how his opinion will have changed after playing a season of college ball....
We'll have to wait for at least another year for his opinion. Aside from the Waldorf game, where they claimed to have gotten over 100 kids into the game, two Freshmen played this year for Luther. Grimm kicked off and an O-Lineman from Minn.

If I remember correctly, the center isn't even a traditional freshman as he went to either a prep school out east or a community college before coming to Luther.

Walston is correct about the the big school versus small school stuff.  Part of running a successful college program is getting kids to understand that high school was fun and very important while you were in high school, but college is a different level with young men who are mostly more developed and skilled than the kids that they played against in high school.

Iowa Baseball several years ago had problems where not enough of the players respected the coaches and the program.  Too many of them thought that what they were doing in high school for a successful program was somehow bigger than what they were doing for a mediocre to bad Iowa team at the time.

Attitude problems with kids can happen at any level in any sport.  It helps to get kids to buy into it when you can win like Central in Football or Wartburg, Augsburg, Luther etc. in wrestling.

olivet in punt formation - low snap - gets away from punter, he's able to throw it away, but Dutch start at Olivet 24.

Connell throws 4th TD pass - 21 yards to Smith

I agree with all of the comments about the bigger school stuff.  I went to an 8A school in the suburbs of Chicago, and when I graduated...all of my friends joked that I could probably be the starting QB at a school of 1500.  I wasn't stupid, and was really going to school for the International studies program, but was highly impressed with the football program (basketball...not so much :D not enough dunking in IIAC b-ball compared to my HS).

Great job with the game so far Dutch Radio.  I'm listening in Salt Lake City, Utah!

Go Dutch...keep rolling!

Hefty always talked about the need to develop quality depth at every position. While they obviously need more talent at some positions, I think their overall depth has improved greatly. You see a lot less Freshmen getting playing time the last couple years. Given the JV record, I assume they are still bringing in decent talent.
