Pretty funny that Freebird would come to the IIAC board to yap.  He doesn't have the Cajones to do it on the MIAC board.  That Karma would plummet faster than mine has.

Somebody must feel empowered now that his squad "Finally" got that ever elusive 1st playoff win in school history.  Now you start to play the big boys.  Should be very interesting...

Tommy great point.  Why dont we start a seperate Central vs. St. Johns thread so we can call get out the rulers and measure how big we are

Can't wait for St. Johns to come back to Pella, that's all I can say...

Pot calling the kettle black, Dusty?

Funny that Central "crawls through a schedule", when St. John's not only loses a game, but also has to hold off St. Olaf to win by 1 and score 10 in the fourth quarter to beat a 3-7 Carelton team by 3.

Everyone has close games - have you watched any DI football this year Dusty?  The key is, Central has won ALL of theirs.  Not too many 11-0 teams anywhere in college football.

As for the game - there are a couple of VERY important things that Central will need to do Saturday that it couldn't do last year.

1 - Get off the field.  The Johnnies were an amazing 4-6 on fourth down last year and controlled the clock.

2 - Not turn the ball over.  The Dutch took incredible care of the football last year, but turned the ball over twice against the Johnnies.

3 - Protect Connell.  He was sacked four times in last years game.

4 - Throw the ball better.  Only 120-ish yards and NO touchdowns for Connell.  He's averaging 240+ and almost 3 TDs a game this year.  It's obvious to people who've followed the Dutch this year, but this is THE biggest improvement in Central from last year to this year.  If our run game is shut down, Connell and the receivers can single handedly win a game.

Same coach, same quarterback, same running back.  And I'm glad they're all here.  You're right Johnnie fans, it's the same Central team - just a much improved version.

This has indeed been a frustrating season for us SJU fans.  We've had games where we've struggled to find an offensive rhythm and have not had the traditional dominant defense.  But we're here again and WE ARE ST JOHNS.  Central looks to be a scary team, especially if your speed has improved as much as you say.  How long have you had new-style turf?  Has it taken some time to adapt to it and remake your team and playing style?

SJU will most likely go the way Kofed goes.  Here are some interesting stats from his four years.  He is 4-2 in playoff games with a bad loss at Whitewater in '05 and a near miss same place, last year.

But more important is how he has done on the road on turf.  In his four years he is 8-0 with an average points per game of 39 and margin of victory of 29.  A couple of games were against Augsburg and UST in there but its still on the road.

So maybe the shootout some at SJU expected two weeks ago at Bethel will happen at Central.  If so, I don't like Central's chances in a shootout.  In the 17 games that SJU has lost since 1999, only twice have we lost when scoring over 28 points.  Our record when scoring over 28 points is 73-2 during that time period.  So Central, make sure your defense is ready. ;D

And that 2006 Central squad thats back this year is noticably better in several places, as has been noted earlier.  How does the 07 SJU squad measure up to your 06 squad, if I remember correctly theres a manimal on the D-line that was difficult to stop  Gunderson???  He and Gearman were the ones who killed us.  I see Connell and Kofeod having quite the battle Saturday with Schuring breaking some runs for the difference maker!

You don't need to worry about Gearman, he graduated following last season.  Brian Weber is new go-to receiver--he's a good half foot shorter than Gearman, but faster and shiftier.  He was the deep threat the last couple years.

The defense should be fired up knowing that this might be the last game Gunderson plays.  He's only a junior, but the rumor is that he'll forgo his senior year and enter the draft.  I'd imagine Schuring will have a more difficult time running against Gunderson in the middle than whatever Olivet had.

I'm sure you ran into some non-students at the Bethel game, but that doesn't mean the students weren't there also.  They tend to blend in when there are so many of us.

I'd like to point out that my view of the Bethel/Johnnie game was hindered by 4 rows of CSB/SJU students on the sidelines of your school's bush league stadium.  Nice place you guys got there--what are you going to do if the Royals make a habit of this whole "winning playoff games" thing and people start to actually go to your games?

SJU's students don't attend games much and very rarely travel so their BIG crowd is very weak.

Freebird,
You know I'm not one of "those Johnnie posters" who throw out crap & make personal attacks, but I will give you some examples of how you are wrong here.
1.)Last week at Bethel myself & Mrs. 105 has the current RatPak (without make-up) right in front of us. Also, numerous current students at the Stiftungfestivities.
2.) Road games from the past that I remember students on charter busses & airplanes. UWW in 2005. Stagg Bowl in 2003. Linfield in 2002. Trinity in 2002 just to pull a couple examples from the memory bank.
3.) I also know of current students making road trips on their own such as UWW last year where Mr. Shoes younger brother a.k.a. Bum Fighter, who was a student at the time drank all the beer in our cooler, when Janesville Flash was handing out samples from a local brewery 20 feet away from our van.

Long story short- Johnnie fans of all ages travel well :)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Ok I've had enough!

All you johnnies please just shut up! Leave the Dutch alone. They'll take care of business on Saturday and leave you the next six months of winter to ice fish and drink bear urine disguised in Hamm's cans.
The only people on this boad who are entitled to to crack on Central are Wartburg fans. We can do fine by ourselves without your cold-addled thinking. We are family here, and even though we fight amongst ourselves, we will unify to defeat any outside pains-in-the rears.

We are from St. John's and we are here to help you. Your 649 sickly looking pages need to be "fattened up" & that is what we are here to do. We bought a couple conntracts of corn & bean meal on CBOT to help you along (I figure if I speak your language you'll understand ;)) We could also get some help from our buddies from RPI, they were bumped on Saturday and they have a lot of time on their hands :o

That's the difference between the big brother MIAC and it's little sibling the IIAC.  In the MIAC we hate each other... you go ahead with your love fest... we'll just win football games.

Can someone please direct me to the Iowa Conference chat room.  I seem to have wandered into the St. Johns site by mistake.

Exactly.  Where are all you guys?  Must be out in the corn sheds collecting kernels and making Thanksgiving table decorations.

That would be pretty stupid.  Gunderson is good but he'll get his arse kicked in whatever pro team he goes to if he gets that far.  C'mon.  Stay in school.  I agree that Bethel is a lousy place to watch a game.  They had better get their concessions in order too if they are going to get more people to their games.

We have less pages than you because we mostly talk football on here where you guys talk a lot about Hamms and hunting.  I like having you guys over here if you are talking Central football back and forth.  But you are just having conversations between yourselves like you could be doing on your own MIAC board.

We're ready to face the IIAC slow, corn fed, stumbling galoots.  SJU's speed will be a huge factor on the turf.  I still can't believe BV beat Bethel and I still can't believe we lost to them.

Central can send out their junior varsity if you want.  Then the game might be close :D
