Any other Dutch fans feel a bit like we are reliving Wartburg week?  Seems like a lot of the same old thing.  We don't match up, we don't have the stats, its going to be a long day for the Dutch, we have outscored the common opponents by a bigger margin, yada, yada, yada.

I have a ton of respect for both the WB and SJU football teams, but the fans just have to believe that their one loss team is better than our perfect record team.  I wasn't sure we would win at Wartburg and I don't know if we will beat St. John's, but I believe it our team, particularly if the game is close in score.

I saw Kofoed play last year and he was impressive.  When the heat is on, I'll take Connell, he is consistent from one game to the next.  The longer the game goes on, the better he plays.  None of this on one week, off the next stuff.

Well said. We are afterall, just lucky, but Id rather be lucky than good any day of the week. The fact is you dont get lucky that often. SJU has played their share of close games to inferior opponents and Im not calling them lucky. They are a good team and I respect them and I know that our coaching staff and players do as well. Im just excited to shut them up after Saturday, same as what happened after the Wartburg game.

I too will take Connell any day of the week, as well as our defense. When the pressure is on this group knows how to get it done, dont know about the Johnnies in that sense. Im sure they have their eyes on Bethel, afterall they have dominated the IIAC for so long...yada yada. Dont get me wrong its going to be a dogfight and Ill take the Dutch in that.

They are rough on the karma though...awww I dont agree with what he says...sniffle sniffle.

Having seen decades of playoff caliber football the one aspect that is necessary to compete for a national championship is a highly evolved passing attack.  Given Central is in the first year of developing a passing offense the edge goes to SJU.

Central has been throwing the ball for 3 years now fairly effectively, we have grown as Connell has grown as far as a passing game goes. So I dont know where this first year stuff came from, the new offense came in 4 years ago with Coach Mac.

We are a solid offense that can put up numbers with a defense that has proven it can stop people. The difference will be...as Ive said all year...Centrals far superior special teams.

I recall the game in 2000 when the Dutch were struggling to catch the Johnnies with their passing game.  I actually felt bad for the opposing team.  It was sad and embarrassing.

So now losing 21-18 is sad and embarrassing just because we didn't run the same offense you did?  My goodness, Dr. Roe talks about how Central has Dutch disease in that they don't want to brag about themselves too much.  Clearly that is not a problem in Johnnieville.

I guess it is sad and embarrassing then that SJU got beat worse in round 2 on the 2005 playoffs by UWW than Central did.  Man, I almost felt sorry for you guys.   :o

Central did dominate the first half in 2000, but after the "witch doctor" worked his magic on Tommy Linneman's ankle, the second half was all Johnnie.

That was a fun game.  Sounds like the conditions could be the same for this match-up i.e. snowmen being rolled off the field to make way for the game.  How is the weather in Pella?

Got about 2-3 inches of snow today.  Supposed to be warmer the next two days so I don't look for there to be any snow on game day.

Guess it was sad and embarrassing that we had to beat the Dutch in their home stadium in 2000 and 2006.  And it will be sad and embarrassing when we do it again on Saturday.  :-*

Not that it matters much on turf, just concerned about those traveling.  Minneapolis just got some heavy flurries today.

D1HawkD3CUI, If I recall, Vern Den Herder was in 4 superbowls.  He went the first 3 years with the Dolphins and retired after 12 years.  There was a story about him in the DM Register and he said his only regret was not getting back to the superbowl.   When someone got injured, they called him back for one more year and he closed his career out at the superbowl.  Not sure if he actually played or not though.

Here's an old DM Register article on Den Herder.  Pretty interesting, even if you're not a Central fan.

Wow...either you struggle at reading...or your math up in Johnnyville sucks. I said for the last 4 years our offense has changed from run oriented dating back to the Schipper day, to a more flexible and balanced run pass offense. As I said Coach McMartin, who put in a new more balanced offense that had much more passing in it came in 2004. This being his 4th year puts his 3rd in 2006, 2nd in 2005 and 1st in 2004.

Therefore the 2000 game when you dominated us in a 3 point win without a passing game falls outside the context with which I was speaking. Therefore your point carries no weight. Eitherway its not like you dominated that game so Im not following any of your posts on this page.

Hope your job doesnt rely on math or common sense Dusty.

Like Ive said before, it doesnt do much to bring up the past as you cant effectively compare common opponents and their games. If we would I would be scared in the fact that the vaunted Johnnie D gave up way more points to a weak St. Thomas team than the Dutch did, but alas, that argument holds no water.
