Klop,

I may have not spoken totally correct.  You are correct about the fact that there are more season ticket holders, that is the life blood of a sports program.  Having said that how long before these fans bail out though.  5 wins over the past two years and gettting a new coach this late will hurt this year as well.  It may hurt the returning players as well if the new coach does not retain some of them.  I just don't see that mens sports are better under Pollock.  Mens sports pay the bills if they don't improve and start getting some W's the giving will be affected.

I guess I'm resigned to keep designing hot tubs for another 19 years.   ;D

In the CR Gazette today, Mike Hlas compared Chizik leaving to when Alford left Iowa.  At the time that happened, a sportswriter down in New Mexico wondered if NM had done Iowa a favor in taking Alford off their hands so that the Hawks didn't have to decide how to get rid of Alford.  Hlas thinks that Auburn did the same thing for Iowa State by taking away Chizik.  If the Clones went through another crappy season next year, the heat would have really started to turn up on Pollard to make a change.  Now he has a clean slate to go out and find a coach that will be committed to winning at Iowa State for the next few years.

Great post.  When Iowa hired Alford he was the hottest thing to hit the open market.  A Bobby Knight deciple and the know how to win in the Big 10 lead us all to believe the second coming of Jesus Christ was coming to Iowa City.  At least Chiz left with some class and did not call Iowa State a wrestling school as Alford left and claimed Iowa was a football school that would never back the basketball program.  Funny how they seem to rally about Lickballer.
If you call trying to bring some of your current players at ISU down to Auburn with you class, then yes, Chizik left with class. No one (that is rational at least) is blaming him for leaving to coach Auburn, but several are pissed he talked to 3-4 guys about coming down with him.

Chizoid taking kids with him to Auburn is understandable becaues he recruited them.  They bought into his style of coaching.  Its nothing new to see a coach leave and take players with him.  My statements about him having class and leaving might have been a bit of an overstatment.  Hence why I called him Chizoid.  I never thought much of him considering he did no better that Mac did.

PH,
IF they hired you and then wanted to get rid of you, they would be hitting up "friends of the college" like yourself for $'s to get rid of you.  ;D

Besides you couldn't handle the weather. It's SEVEN degrees and we've got 3" of snow so far.

Dutchie pillow talk doesn't count;)

LOL -- the kid works at SA with me. He's between NFL gigs, after being released from the Saints earlier. I think he's taking off for Philly soon.

doolittledog ...

I just remembered that when I wrote from Germany last September ... I mentioned having visited a "mixed' (coed) spa where total nudity was the norm ... and you said that reminded you of some story that you would tell after the season was over.

Do you remember that?

Would Purple Heys leave the life of a hot tub engineer in SoCal to become a football coach at a D3 school in Iowa???  My magic 8 ball says "not likely"   ;D

I just need to remember to send an email to the new UD coach with Purple Heys email address and tell him PH has a kid thats a high school freshman with potential!!!

Would Roger Wailiae...UD grad and current D2 coach in West Virginia be a possibility for tomorrow???  He's a Cali native and his DC is an Oxy grad.  They could continue the California recruiting UD has started up in recent years.

Sounds like UD has their man:

Osterberger decides he wants to coach another IIAC school?

That was funny. I wonder if he was the first head coach to ever coach at 2 IIAC schools?

John Chalmers...of Chalmers Field fame was a Dubuque judge that coached at Loras before coming over and coaching UD for many years.  Though that was 90+ years ago and before there was an Iowa Conference.

I wonder if UD should tap the Wartburg coaching tree.  Bring in WH with his in-state high school recruiting contacts!!!  Then he could hire WillieU as the DC/linebackers coach.  That might be a good idea.   ;)

There is a joke about a man that joined a nudist colony and the hot tub there.  I might have to PM it to you.  It MIGHT not be family friendly enough for this board.  I might be able to edit it down for here though.

So Dillon hired a buddy with a sub .500 record and promoted from within?
That shows you why I would NOT make a good college FB coach. I wouldn't go about building a winless program the correct way apparently.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

That and the fact MOST of your "buddies" hang out on a D3 message board and are not football head coaches. ;D ;D ;D

No better than Mac did?  I would say that is the understatement of the year.  Mac had a few good years.  By good I mean over 500.  Chizek was no where close to 500.  The only place he was 500 was against Ferentz and Iowa.
