So Dillon hired a buddy with a sub .500 record and promoted from within?
That shows you why I would NOT make a good college FB coach. I wouldn't go about building a winless program the correct way apparently.

That must be why you weren't mentioned as a replacement for Chizek on the Channel 13 news tonight.   ;D ;D ;D

There was nothing wrond with McCarney's last years at ISU that the firing of Barney Cotton couldn't have fixed. Mac is a good coach and a great motivator that got more than expected from the talent on hand.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

A little disappointed in the UD fans here, no one in the know enough to find out who interviewed, what fun is speculating unless somebody claims to be in the know . . . .

here's  a thought on Chizek's replacement, hire Tuberville - he's got a national championship resume.  Then he can really show it to Auburn when he wins more than Geno did!  I'd say 5 wins at ISU are the same as 8 at Auburn right now.

Word I get out of Dubuque is that Stan Zweifel will be named the next UD head coach.

Thats the kind of rumor were looking for.  Would be a good thing for UD too, bring even more parity and higher expectations to the league.

Exactly! He was too loyal. It took him too long to can Marty Fine as well. Cotton was not going anywhere though and so they told Mac to take a hike.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Is that the guy that Whitewater refused to hire after Berozowitz retired?  That came in 2nd place last year to Dernin when Luther was searching for a coach?  That hasn't been hired at some other places because questions about his character?  Or is this someone else?

Confused77

Zweifel is a Zone offense Guru. Many Zone schemes books and videos published with his name on them. if that is who UD hires it would be an outstanding hire.

If, indeed, Stan Zweifel is the next UD coach they have picked a winner.  His "character" is that he brings great enthusiasm to the job.  He did a fine job of interviewing at Luther.  He'll be a great addition to the IIAC.

"I think it was just the right group of guys at the right time," said Nielson, 48. "We had a great senior class that provided great leadership. They set their sights on winning a conference championship, and after they attained that they went after some other goals."
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Now that makes me feel better.  Thanks oldNorse

Nielson sounds like a very humble man.  What a great quote from him you put in there.

I wondered if UD AD Runkle with his strong Mankato State background and connections would look there for Brautigan's successor.  If it does turn out to be Zweifel ... it all makes sense ... and sounds promising too.

I hope that is the case NOW, in my dealings with him before he left Wartburg that was NOT one of his strengths.
