I think if those programs can be heavily populated with kids from the tri-state then I would think Zwiefel might be able to get some more kids from that area as well.

I have to believe that even beginning this fall, the UD roster will be much more heavily populated with tri-state kids, especially ones from Wisconsin.  Beyond that, I imagine there will be a lot more kids from hometowns like Dubuque, Galena, Platteville, Cuba City, etc.  There are some pretty good high school programs within a county of Dubuque in each state that haven't really been properly tapped to this point.  Looking at last year's roster, of the 13 Iowans, there were really only five "tri-staters," two from Dub. Senior, two from Bellevue and an Elkaderer.  Seemed like most of the rest came from more toward the Quad Cities area (Burlington, DeWitt, Wilton, Camanche).

Same thing for the other states.  One of the just six Wisconsinites on the roster from within the TH's circulation range (Platteville), and of the 23 Illinois kids, none come from Jo Daviess or even Stephenson counties.

Klop......the AFC runs through Pittsburgh.

Wrong.  The road to the AFC Championship runs through Nashville.  I know this isn't going out on much of a limb, but I'm going to predict that the two best teams in the NFL all year will meet in Tampa:  the Giants and my Titans.  Both have very strong defenses, both with dominating running games, both feature QBs that don't make many mistakes, and both get it done in the kicking game.  Sounds like a good recipe for raising the Lombardi Trophy on February first, which the Titans will do.  I know there aren't many people that expect them to pull it off, but that's just fine.  Nobody thought they'd be Pittsburgh two weeks ago either and look how that one turned out.

sk...The Titans are a very good team for the reasons you state, and they did beat the Steelers a couple weeks ago.  If you watched that game, the Steelers blew opportunity after opportunity and really beat themselves, not taking anything away from the Titans.  the Steelers have been there before and I think that will make a big difference. Maybe I should say, I hope, that will make a big difference.   ;)

I would think you Iowans wold be rooting for the Steelers since you wear the black and gold and basically wear identical uniforms.   ;)

I have to believe, after yesterday's preformance, and with the way they have played the last couple of weeks, - Baltimore is the scariest team in the NFL right now.  I wouldnt want to play them.  Go Cowbo... oh yeah...

1st in wanted the Manning Bowl, but now I was the Cardinals and Ravens (but i think it will be Baltimore/Pitt vs. Giants)

I see Baltimore making it in.  Reed has been on fire lately with INTs.  If he can keep that up I'm thinking an INT returned for a TD will make the difference in a game or two.  Even getting one (or two) and changing field position can me big for the Ravens.  Would be kind of cool to see a rookie QB make it into the Superbowl.

NFC is really a toss up right now.  I can see Carolina exploding.  We all know Smith can win them a game (looking back a few years when the Bears were owned by him in the playoffs).

Interesting story from the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald about UD hosting an archery tourney at the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center.

I suppose that you could use these events to recruit kids to your university.  I wonder if we could add archery as a varsity sport ;D ;D ;D

I think there was a young lady from Iowa that competed in archery in the summer olympics.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Spurrier

the spurrier clan partied at Fontaine Bleau on miami beach with the likes of p diddy, little wayne and jamie fox on new year's eve and tailgated like it was 1999 at the orange bowl on the 1st. . .check out a replay of the game because the crowd shot just before the national anthem features ms. spurrier, little ms. spurrier, spurrier's brother and spurrier himself. . .turnovers did the bearcats in, but to see my son on the field at the orange bowl was a thrill. . .next year looks good for jr. as the bearcats graduate 10 on defense. . . look out for #13 knocking down big east receivers next fall. . .
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Great to see that spurrier.  I am writing down that number now so I can remember it.  You didn't happen to be a 13'er at UD did you???

Mu Sig for me.

Did you know Mike Green?  He was a senior Phi-O my freshman year.  Might have been around before you left.

Or Todd Thein, Terry Winter, Chris Kueter, Greg Sharnau...Mu Sigs that might have been at UD while you were still there as well.

None of them jocks though, so maybe not.

Actually, Greg Sharnau was certainly a jock and one of the best punters that ever came out of the Spartan Nation  ;D

Is anyone planning on attending the DIII wrestling nationals at the US Cellular Center.  I'm really amped about going this year.  It is a great place to watch wrestling. Not a bad seat in the house!

Go Kohawks!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Yeah, I am trying to think here.  Maybe Keith Sharnau...can't remember...too many brain cells ago.  Do the frats still have floors in Donnell or has that all changed in the last 15 years?  I think it used to be the Athenians and Phi Sigs had 1st floor, Phi-O's had 2nd, 13'ers were on the 3rd and the Mu Sigs were on the 4th...or the Penthouse as we called it.

Go Kohawks!

I'm sure plenty of Knight fans will be there. Need to get done with National Duals this weekend @ the Dome. Wart is #1 seed Augsburg is 2. Coe 4 seed, Cornell 7, Luther 9, Dubuque 12 and BV 15. Not too shabby. 6 of 16 are IIAC. New national rankings are due today.

As for me, I will NOT be @ national meet. I'll be on the Robert Trent Jones Golf trail in Alabama.
