Is anyone planning on attending the DIII wrestling nationals at the US Cellular Center.  I'm really amped about going this year.  It is a great place to watch wrestling. Not a bad seat in the house!

Go Kohawks!
Probably make the annual trek to the tourney and watch the Knights bring home some more hardware.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Go Kohawks!

I was there last year and am going to consider going again this year.  I'll either be there or in DM for state basketball that weekend.

Check that.  They're not the same weekend this year, so I can do both.  Awesome!

coocooforkohawk: Little Warthog and I discussed the D3 national wrestling tournament over the holidays.  As of now we are planning to meet in CR for Saturday sessions.  It should be fun.  I just hope the Hacienda has ordered in enough tequila, nacho chips and salsa.

I noticed UIU is going to have its wrestlers down at UNI this weekend.  I went over to their web-site to read up on their grapplers.  As I was snooping around it appears they haven't got a new football coach yet.  Anybody know whats going on?  It has only been four months since they canned their old coach.
Perhaps the Peacocks as a D2 team are no more attractive to coaches than the Peacocks as a D3 team.

Word from the D2 message board is they had a handshake agreement back in July for Marion native and Wartburg grad and ex-coach Nielson to take over as AD as soon as his season was over.  He would then have a football coach in place within a month.  His team winning the D2 national title led him to have a change of heart and left UIU scrambling to fill their AD and head football coaching positions.

Vince Brautigam to UIU???  Might be the kind of coach that school would need.  We shall see.

doolittledog:  Nielson would have had to have been on a lethal mixture of booze, meth, crack and wacky tobacky to have agreed to take that job.  Thank goodness, he apparently sobered up.  I think somene may have been pulling your leg.  Wouldn't it be career suicide to jump from UM-Duluth to UIU?  In fact, I can't imagine moving as AD from any NCAA D3 college in the state of Iowa to UIU would be a particularly smart move.

This kid wrestles for UNI, he went to same High School as Jr.  Was a 2-time CA State champ (pretty rare) and will play baseball for UNI as well.

Most notable is that he was Vista High's Male Athlete of the Year for 2007-08 alongside Senorita Heys who was named Female Athlete of the Year 2007-08.

Heys, you're up a little late posting on the net. What's the matter, too hot outside to sleep?

Late is "only" around 12:30AM local PST time when I posted.  You see the EST time stamp.

BTW, we are getting into the low 40's for our overnight temps...B-B-BRRRRRRR!!

We're having quite the heat wave here -- it could get up to almost 25 degrees in Des Moines today. I actually saw someone wearing shorts this morning....

OK, I'm not generally one to post random jokes on here, but this one made me chuckle, so I thought I would share. (Didn't someone confess to being a Lion's fan a while back??)

** RULE CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR **
1 - When playing polio patients, the Lions must not disconnect knee braces.
2 - When playing the Blind Academy, the Lions must not hide the football under their jerseys.

** RULES THE SAME FROM LAST YEAR **
1 - A touchdown (This is when the ball is carried over the goal line, for all you Lions fans who have never seen this) is still worth 6 points.

2 - The Lions will be allowed 20 men on the field at all times.

3 - The Lions will be allowed to substitute with band members at any time.

4 - The Lions will be awarded 10 timeouts as opposed to 3 for the opposing team.

5 - The Lions will be awarded a first down with each gain of three yards or more, instead of the usual ten yards.

** NAME CHANGE **
The Detroit Lions will be changed to the " Detroit Tampons" as they are only good for one period and have no second string.

** COACHING CHANGES **
Field goal kicker will be replaced by Monica Lewinsky. She will no doubt blow a few, but she certainly won't choke on the big ones!

;D

Mr. Ypsi

I'm the self-confessed Lions fan, and I found this hilarious.

But in fairness, one correction: the Monica Lewinsky joke is attacking just about the only bright spot on that sorry excuse for a team.  Jason Hansen missed only one FG the entire season (and it was blocked, not missed), including going 8 for 8 from 50+ yards.
