Here's some news for you folks.

Tyler Sherden is listed on the Florida roster of the  new UNG League. Scott Birkhofer and Taylor Summers from Linfield are on the same team.

Interesting way to form a new  team- on-line draft?
I should have drafted a team and Walston would have been my coach.

REGARDING THE UNGL ONLINE DRAFT

In an effort to get players on the field in 2009, the UNGL has decided to forgo the traditional combine. In its place, we will be hosting our inaugural UNGL draft online via our exclusive UNGL Player Network.

All players in our player database will be reviewed and selected by UNGL football operations, player scouts, general managers, and team coaches.

Our online draft will be held January 8-9, 2009.

Hey Devine...

You headed to a certain birthday celebration tonight?  I wish I could have made the trip down for it, but my work schedule prevented the trip.

I know its not football ... but UD upset Cornell yesterday in wrestling.  After a disappointing showing at the NWCA
National Duals last weekend, this had to be a big lift.  After trailing the Rams 0-10, the Spartans came back to win 24-16.

From the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald:

College wrestling

Dubuque 24, Cornell 16 -- At UD: The NCAA Division III No. 25-ranked Spartans overcame a 10-0 deficit and upset the No. 10 Rams in an Iowa Conference dual.

Facing that 10-0 hole, the Spartans (3-0 league) won four straight matches with Josh Terrell (165), Matt Wonderlin (197) and former Dubuque Hempstead prep Eric Daughetee (285) notching pins to send the scored to 24-10 with two matches left.

"Our team really came together," Spartans coach Jon McGovern said. "It was the most exciting match we have had at UD in a while."

GO SPARTANS!

Also, while not totally IIAC related, though there is a mention of UD and Loras in the article.

Mentions that this could make Dubuque a destination city for recent college grads from Iowa colleges.  As well, I would think, a good recruiting tool for UD and Loras coaching staffs!!!

A letter from the County Treasurer today tells me our Wartburg plates are ready to be picked up at the Court House.  The plates on neither car will read WARTHOG.  There could be some situations where I would prefer limited anonimity.  For instance, sportsnight and doolittledog tell me there is no off street parking in downtown East Dubuque.  ;)

Are you going to tell us what the plates do say?

I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about ;D

Big weekend coming up for IIAC wrestling.  The IIAC duals next weekend Jan. 24th.  At UD will be Coe, Dubuque, Simpson and Wartburg.  At BV will be BV, Central, Cornell, Loras and Luther.

These are good.
Personally, I would have chosen Warthog, but I can see why your lovely wife would not enjoy driving a vehicle with such plates if the occasion ever arose.

How'd you explain that one to the DOT folks?
