I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Klop,

I think I will wait until it warms up until I collect my bet. ;)

Klop, I hope you ran the terms of the bet past your better half first...

Ummm no but I think I can stand the hot water :D

Snoop...I am a man of my word.  Get to Illinois and the fishing is on me!

Wait a second Klop, first class travel, accommodations and payin' off my mortgage were also part of the bet, weren't they?  I will settle for a coach seat if we do it in warmer temps. ;)

... fixed it.

Wow......how did I forget that part of the bet?  Thanks 5wol  I appreciate you reminding me.  Klop...where are you? :D

Interesting story in CR Gazette about former conference brothers UIU

http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090119/SPORTS/701199908/1008/SPORTS

They had to finish a women's b-ball game with 3 players. 4 Suspended, 1 fouled out, 1 injured during the game. Same old, same old.
I read about that Sunday in the WCF COurier.
I gotta think with numbers that low that they can find a couple ladies from the VB or Soccer teams that can at least defend someone to help them out a little.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I believe the wink in the post regarding first class airfare and hotel accomodations negated me from having to hold true on that portion of the bet.

Like I said I am a man of my word, get to Illinois and the fishing is on me!!!

Doolittle you will still be waiting for you hot dogs ;)

Klop...the wink meant I had something in my eye while I was typing.  Want to go double or nothing?

All this talk about fish and hotdogs between klop and snoop has me hungry.

Without reading that UIU article, the Dubuque women played a game against some team in the Chicago area a year or two ago that ended with the other team down to 3 players or something like that.  I thought I read at the time that the game ended up not counting because of one of the teams being down under the 5 player limit.  But I am usually wrong about these things.

When I was in junior high my basketball team had to finish a game with 3 players.  Not fun.  We only had 5 to start the game after one of our players broke his wrist, another came down with mono, and one just didn't show up.  Our center fouled out midway through the 4th quarter, so we went to a 2-2 zone.  Then our point guard fouled out with about 2:30 to play and we went with a 1-2.  I think we only got the ball past half-court once the rest of the game since the other team could essentially double team two of our players and still not leave anyone open.

After the game the other coach came over to our huddle and congratulated us on a great effort and said that he wished his team had played as hard as we did.  That was little consolation, considering that even with limited numbers we were still right in the game until the 2nd foul out.  That and we thought we had gotten screwed on a couple of those late fouls.

I'm not up to date on my women's/girl's basketball in Iowa...

Do they still do that players can't cross half court thing?

:D

Come to think of it...at my age and accelerating decrepitude...that might not be a bad idea for a league featuring us more "experienced" players.

:)

Anybody know if any IIAC players are going to try out at University of Iowa's Pro Day?

Anybody know when University of Iowa's Pro Day is?

I'm figuring they do have a Pro Day, right?

I was going to declare myself eligible for the draft...but I decided to withdraw my name from consideration.

BTW - The NCAA just passed legislation officially categorizing 7th graders as prospects for basketball recruiting purposes.

It makes perverse sense in the NCAA's objective to combat the influence Street Agents and AAU teams have on younger kids and where they go to High School.

What are the High School transfer eligibility rules out in Iowa?

Here, there's 1 "free" transfer immediately after freshman year provided the kid did not participate at the varsity level.  Once a kid gets to the varsity level its a lot tougher.

A kid and legal guardian must reside in the district and be successfully enrolled in the new school in question.

I bring this up because we have a couple of public schools that have a "knack" for transfers.  Any public schools like that in Iowa?

And it turns out...the school where the San Diego Section Athletic Commissioner's kids attend happens to be one of those schools.

Except, they seem to escape any sanctioning where other schools just get hammered.

Since 7th grade is such a strong measuring stick of a kids ability I can see why they would do this.  How many times have you seen high school seniors flop at the next level.  Hard to believe that programs are willing to invest at such a young age considering all the outside influences that the kids are starting to see at this age.  I am sure Timmy F at USC might ink a 7th grader :D

Well guys the days of me being a piss poor typer have came to and end.  I just purchased a MacBook Pro this afternoon and I must say it is quite the machine.  That and it has spell check in these posts helps quite a bit.  Now my sentence structure and punctuation will still be in question :D

Ah, the old 6-on-6 days.  My mom played that variety of ball where its essentially two games of 3-on-3 going on at the same time.  I think Iowa did away with it sometime in the mid-90s, but it could have been farther back than that.

Last I knew, as long as a student changes address, they can transfer to and from schools as often as they wish.  But if a student doesn't change residence and "open enrolls" out of their designated school district, they have to sit out 90 academic days, or essentially an entire semester.  That was the last I knew, but things could have changed in the 8 years since I've been out of high school

Truth is I am a die hard NE Pats fan.  Been that way since they drafted Drew Bledsoe.  I got to see him play in the Rose Bowl.  I could not like Buffalo went he went there and I hate the Cowboys so I guess I remained a Pats fan.  That has seemed to work out so far.

But I love the boys from Baltimore as well.  Those guys can play some defense.  Plus I love a guy like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Co. who can tell you they are going to stick it up your rear end and then actually do it.  I had the tendency to run my mouth at times.  I kind of liked to play like Ray Lewis on the offensive line.

You should have seen me at the national sales conference I just attended.  My team took home the top prize and I crib walked up to the stage to claim my prize while running my mouth at the same time.  It was quite a sight.  Did someone say that sales people are competitors ;)

They only prediction I had right this weekend was that people were going to be leaving in body bags and I think they proved that point fairly well.
