Well my boss is a Steelers fan I am dont like to be called a rear end kisser so I have had to learn to hate the Steelers....Even though I did idolize Greg Lloyd as a kid.  That cat could play LB.  Nice face mask as well.

Anybody know if any IIAC players are going to try out at University of Iowa's Pro Day?

Anybody know when University of Iowa's Pro Day is?

I'm figuring they do have a Pro Day, right?

I was going to declare myself eligible for the draft...but I decided to withdraw my name from consideration.

BTW - The NCAA just passed legislation officially categorizing 7th graders as prospects for basketball recruiting purposes.

It makes perverse sense in the NCAA's objective to combat the influence Street Agents and AAU teams have on younger kids and where they go to High School.

Since 7th grade is such a strong measuring stick of a kids ability I can see why they would do this.  How many times have you seen high school seniors flop at the next level.  Hard to believe that programs are willing to invest at such a young age considering all the outside influences that the kids are starting to see at this age.  I am sure Timmy F at USC might ink a 7th grader :D

This is completely understandable.  Kids are watched starting whenever they start playing AAU ball.  LeBron was watched from probably 3rd grade on.  I dont agree with it, but I see where it is comming from

As far as Iowa having a PRO day, they will probably have one, but only have 2 pro-prospects, with a couple borderline ones

Olsen and Greene are the legit ones
King could go on reputation of a big heart, work ethic, and tenacity, but his size is lacking, and it may be enough to hold him back
Kroul is probably not going to get drafted, which will suprise a lot of people
jake christiansen is all ready a lock  ::)
Meyer is a pretty good prospect at TE, could go later in teh draft
Moeiki (sp?) is very talented at TE, but only averaged about 5 games/year because of injuries

How about Wartburg upsetting BV in Bball the other night. Had to get them back for football I suppose.

They often get kids from different schools at these pro days.  I know Belleus showed up at the ISU pro day a few years ago out of shape and very unimpressive.

So with PH asking about pro days and high school eligibility issues...does that mean that A. Jr. is declaring himself eligible for the draft?  and B. Is the family unit moving from SoCal to Iowa and he wants to shop school districts for child #3?

I kid, I kid

It was a great game from the Wartburg point of view. But  a game as tough as BV for the Knights on the road tonight @ Cornell.

NO...NO...NO!    :D

A.  Jr. has no such thoughts.  I was curious because I wonder if there is another Fred Jackson out there from the IIAC and I know that Iowa has a Pro Day.

B.  Have you checked our weather lately?  With wind chill factor I think there was a 130 degree differential one day last week.  :o

With the Santa Ana's our wind brings warmth not chill.

I was simply musing on a situation we have here with transfers.

Heys,
Here in Oregon girls' basketball has been played like boys' basketball for at least 30 years, and I imagine it's been the same in Iowa and Calif. as well, hasn't it? That half-court play went out in the 60s.

On another note, I once saw a high school boys' game where one team had several kids sick, and then a few fouled out, and they ended up with only three players. The opposing coach showed his class by playing with three as well. I think they still won the game, but I most remember the sportsmanship. It was a good lesson for high school kids.

Iowa went away from 6 on 6 girls basketball around 1990 or so.  If I remember correctly by the 1980's there was only Iowa and Oklahoma that still had those rules.  Coincidentally, at that time those were also the two dominant states for wrestling!

6 on 6 was basically two games of 3 on 3.  Hearing about the game before actually seeing it made me laugh.  But actually seeing the game made me a fan of it.  That was also the time when the girls state tourney out drew the boys tourney.  And all schools were thrown together into one tourney while the boys had the 4 class system.

Fred was not drafted - he got a try-out for the Bills because of Levy.  Then they shipped him off the NFLEuro.

Iowa girls played 6on6 until the early 90's. Although it hampered them in the college game, it was great to watch. Seeing Denise Long or Lynne Lorenzen fill the hoop was amazing. Not unusual to see them score 70 in a game. The Girl's tournanment was a must see on tv.

First year of all girls playing 5-player was 93 or 94 I think.
After covering a lot of small school girls HSBB on the radio, I definitely will say there would still be a place for 6-on-6.  That 6'1 girl with long arms would be a beast as a guard in 6o6, but spends time on the bench in 5v5 since she lacks the coordination to shoot the ball and is a liability on O. Not saying that is always the case, but I would say I saw that more often than not.

The last Iowa 6 on 6 title game was played in 1993. The first 5 on 5 title game was 1985 (1 class). In 1994 everyone played 5 on 5 and there were 4 classes.
