That 6'1 girl with long arms would be a beast as a guard in 6o6, but spends time on the bench in 5v5 since she lacks the coordination to shoot the ball and is a liability on O.

Afraid this is the fate that the two Lil WHs are doomed to?  :D

They probably won't even be coordinated enough to make the team.

Here is the link for the past champions for the girls in Iowa.  The last 6 on 6 game was 93 Hubbard-Radcliffe beat Atlantic 85-66. Here is a tidbit the first champion was Correctionville 11 over Nevada 4 in 1920.

First 5 on 5 champion was Linn-Mar over Cedar Rapids Washington 56-40 in 1985.

in 94 all girls went 5 on 5 and went to the class system.

Looking at this site.  Does any one know where College Springs Iowa is?  That has to be a record a score of 4-3 in 1920 wow I thought 5 on 5 was a slow game now.

For those of you who don't get Sports Illustrated- this is in the "They Said It" section this week.

Walston,
I've got girl #2 on the way-  is it too early to start forming an AAU Volleyball & Basketball team with our 4 girls?

Also, in case you didn't hear, Wheels had a boy last week-  Elijah

College Springs is in southern Page County, a good golf shot from the Missouri state line.  Page County is in the south west part of the state.  Amity College was once located there.  There was a spring near the college, thus the name of the town.   According to Wikpedia, the Amity College location is now home to South Page High School. (Which I have never heard of either.)
South Page is in the Corner Conference.  Other Corner Conference teams are: East Mills, Essex, Farragut, FM Tabor, Hamburg, Sidney, Stanton, and Villisa.
Now you know everything I know about College Springs

I think I had an aunt that coached some level of BBall at Farragut in the late 70's/Early 80's.
Other than that I've heard of Essex, Hamburg, and only know of Villisca because of the axe murders there many years ago.
...And I considered myself pretty knowledgeable on small Iowa towns after working radio and coaching, along with traveling the state selling health insurance several years ago.

How did the discussion of girls BB start on here? Random....

I played 6-6 when I was in 5th grade at Maquoketa Valley, and 5-5 in 6th at West Delaware. 6-6 is weird -- I think it was tough to pick up because I didn't see anyone else playing it. I was that girl that would go for the steal and then still want to take the shot at the other end. For some reason, the coaches didn't like that.  ;D

you could have taken the shot, but you wouldn't have made it

I would have thought you'd be happy for a little gender equity around here every once in a while.

WHo needs gender equity on a football board?

Gender equity is serving you well here.

Correctionville is a cool name. Was there a prison there? I see that they kicked the snot out of Nevada back in 1920.

Don't get me wrong -- I think it's pretty cool that you guys have devoted this much time to a woman's sport....I just think it's interesting.

Iowa has always been very progressive promoting equality in women's athletics (well before Title IX), which is one of the things I really like about our state.
