Where should I eat when visiting Des Moines?

If you're getting there from the north, stop at Hickory Park in Ames.  You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely correct.....probably one of 2 or 3 reasons to stop in Ames, otherwise I would encourage people to keep driving!

If your on the west side of town, I'd highly recommend Sam & Gabe's Italian Bistro.......VERY GOOD!

Love it! Welcome to Dubuque! We'll have to get together sometime over a couple cold ones and a few wings---GR or Buffalo--both are good! Then, maybe I can sneak a Wartburg alum in for a closer look at the inside of the new Spartan faciliities.

Willie U

Might have to take you up on that.  One of my first orders of business will be to check out the new facilities at UD and Lorass to see how they compare to "The W" at Wartburg.  This is a very good time to be moving to Dubuque, for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the Knights football team comes to town twice next fall.

You're right...Great Plains pizza joint downtown Ames is very good, but you can get good pizza just about anywhere.

My only prediction for today's game:  Springsteen's set list at halftime will be "The Rising," "Glory Days," "Workin' on a Dream," and "Born to Run."  In that order.

Hola ...

This probably isn´t fair, but the water temp here in Puerto Escondido is 84 ... and the days are sunny and warm ... like around the low 90´s.  Pretty good Mexican food here as well.

Vaya Spartans!

Way to go. Three out of four.

Didn't see "10th Ave. Freezeout" coming at all.  Would have guessed that he'd use "Born to Run" to either open or close the set, but I was wrong on that too.  Damn, damn good show though.

Would have thought "Born in the USA" would have been in there too. I agree a great show for a guy who is as old as most of our fathers. Although sliding your daddy parts into a camera couldn't have felt too good. He was kind of gasping for air after that LOL.

Hickory Park is good, but I wouldn't arrange my life around going there like some do. It always seems like they want you to dine and dash so they can use your table. The Mandarin is a great choice if you like Chineese.

As far as Des Moines, the Latin King on the east side is great and you can see the old money eat there. Saw Kyle Orton there one night. Any El Rodeo is outstanding and cheap. Boston's is a good sports bar with a diffent twist on bar food. Rock Bottom Brewery is good and fun to get a beer sampler. The Tavern in Valley Junction has the best pizza. I also like Biaggi's for a nice place to go out to.

I think I already shared this a couple of years ago here...

I saw Springsteen many years ago ('86 or '87 I think) at The Fabulous Forum in L.A.  I don't know about now, but back then this man's stamina was incredible.  He played for 4 hours and he ran around on stage all night like he did for the 12 minutes at the Super Bowl.  Still the best concert I ever saw.  (2nd place is George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers in an 800 person theater @ UCSB for 3.5 hours in 1980)

His albums DO NOT do justice to his live performances.  I can't say I agree with his politics, but to me, he is still one hell of a performer in concert.

Another previously shared anecdote from the Springsteen concert:  The "actor" that played Mark Ratner from Fast Times at Ridgemont High was sitting in front of us smoking pot.  He was every bit as weasly in person.
