Thanks again to the WIAC folks.  They had this link on their board this morning.

http://www.wissports.net/sports/football/blog/message.aspx?f=113&id=994248

The new special teams/DB coach at UD is the former high school coach of all those Bay View kids coming into the program.

Would be nice if the UD website updated the coaching positions a little bit.  But, I suppose that isn't really that big of a deal.

All the UD coaching positions were filled before Christmas from what I understand and the new coaches hit the ground running after the new year.

Thank you to the WIAC guys for coming over here and filling us in on the Wisconsin recruits.  Much appreciated.

I am not sure what to think about that list of UD recruits.  I like that Zwiefel has hit the recruiting trail and has kids coming in.  I like that he has hit an area that so far has been under recruited by IIAC schools.  BUT, is he bringing in kids just to fill out a roster?  Have a bunch of kids left the program?  Does he see something in these kids that other coaches have overlooked?  Are these big city kids that will run for home after 3 months in Dubuque?  Do I just need to relax and not really care about this and just show up to 3 or 4 games next fall and have a fun time cheering on the team...win or lose?  Probably.  Still fun to look at this stuff and play the guessing game though.

Zweifel isn't going to waste his time with players that he believes won't have a chance to play for him simply to have a full roster.  Both Zweifel and his assistant know what type of athlete they are looking for to implement his scheme and they're going to go get them.  That some of these kids may or may not end up playing.  Many factors, some in Zweifel's control, some not, go into that.  But none of them are being brought in simply to fill the roster.

When I saw that 2nd article that mentioned the new UD assistant had been their coach I felt a lot better about the situation.  Not that I really felt bad about the situation.  The Wisconsin people seem to have really good things to say about Zweifel.  Which makes me feel better.  I was initially worried that as a long time assistant he might prove to be a better coordinator than a head coach.  I'm not feeling so much that way now.

DLD,
Relax my friend.  This is a coach who had a very large part in recruiting and coaching a top team in the WIAC and taking it to the an elite level.  U of D is lucky to have him!  Nothing to worry about..................... it's all good!   ;)  :D

Given that the Consumer Price Index rose only .1% from 12/07 to 12/08, that is a huge increase.  If tuition increases outpace inflation by 4.8% annually over the next 10 years, 2019 tuition, room, and board will run about $56k in today's dollars.  Better hope that endowment makes a quick and dramatic turnaround.

I have a question regarding UD and potentially getting so many players from one city and especially one school. Don't you run the risk of it being the "Milwaukee guys" vs. the rest of the guys on the team? Will they hang together or blend into the team? With them already knowing or knowing of each other I think it could affect the team. Just my observation.

No, and my comment was not an affront to Wartburg.  BV will run into the same problem eventually, although their much larger endowment will help them to offset cost increases more effectively and farther into the future than Wartburg.  Wartburg, BV, and the rest of the IIAC will have an increasingly difficult time remaining financially solvent in the years ahead if they do not either:  A) grow their endowments significantly; or B) find ways to trim the fat out of their budgets.  I don't think any of us on here love our schools enough to pay $56k a year to attend, and the endowment is what helps defray the high cost for 98% of students.  If the tuition increases at a rate greater than the endowment grows, the 4% annual draw becomes a smaller and smaller percentage of total tuition, increasing the real cost to the average student.  It's going to be a very serious problem for all of our beloved institutions.

Ugh!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

footballdaddy - That is a big concern bringing in so many kids from 1 school.  Hopefully UD officials are aware of that and working to see that scenario doesn't play out.

BOY - While 56k in a few years sounds crazy.  35k today sounds crazy when compared to the 12k it cost many of us back in 1992!!!

Also, how is it Wartburg and BV and some others have it near 35k per year to attend their school when UD is closer to about 28k???

Look, there is a point to playing the devils advocate and then there is just a point where it gets ridiculous. Again, Coach Z is very experienced and respected. He is going to the start the BEST player no matter where he is from. Do you hear Central complaining about having so many kids recently from SE Polk?? Heck no! Why would they. If a coach is able to create a feeder school and get good kids out of the same school each year, he should be appauled. I understand your being "conservative" and trying to down play things or look for the possible negatives but the bottom line is, this guy is going to WIN, plain and simple. Do you think he isn't recruiting iowa or illinios as hard as wisconsin?? Of course he is. Are all the cards stacked against him in going from 2-8 to 8-2? Sure but guess what, that is what fuels a guy like Coach Z. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.......save the criticism for after the season IF he deserves any of it...

Sounds like Willie U has plenty of Z Kool-Aid to go around.

As for me, I am now officially a resident of Dubuque, IA.  Got moved in this afternoon, save for a box or two that are still in Cedar Falls, but I can go get that stuff tomorrow.  Had a good number of guys on hand to help out (its amazing how many people show up when you promise free beer).  Now comes the unpacking, which is a process that will likely take a few days to complete.  That's just fine though, since DirecTV won't be here to hook up my service until the 22nd.  Guess I'll have a chance to make a pretty big dent in the stack of books I've been meaning to read in the meantime.  Either that or I'll be up at Fat Tuesday's a lot!
