Or scare the kid...show clips of the wrestling team and then have them say..."Come to our school or we'll hunt you down and kick your ass"
I'm sold on that one!

Hoov - You and I are on a similar sheet of music here.  I love that gum commercial where they are beating, squeezing, and kicking the gum out of people's mouths to get them to chew another piece and have to buy more gum.

Watched the LB's run, jump, and shuttle on NFL Network.

That Curry from Wake Forest is unbeevable.

Also 'SC's Matthews and Cushing looked good too; Lauranitas looked huge but not quite as fluid.

But jeez, everyone one of those cats will help an NFL team next year.

It's been awhile since I have been on this board and don't feel like going back 40+ pages to catch up.  Just didn't feel like working too hard after coming back from vacation.

But to touch on what SK was talking about with the new Wartburg ad, I agree.  Just ridiculous.  Yes you may remember it and it may stick in your mind, but I'm sure they could have come up with something a little bit more creative and not as corny.

On a side note, saw some other "related" videos on YouTube and saw a LateKnight fake promo that features SK himself.

In 1974 the Cubs weren't happening like they have been the last 20 years.  I used to have days off during the week.  I could go to Wrigley and pay the $2 and then me and the other 3,000 people in the stadium could sit wherever we wanted.  I don't know what kind of marketing they started doing but try to get a ticket these days.

Harey Carey affect???

In the 70's my family would go to St. Louis Cardinals games and there would generally be 22k-25K in the stadium.  Fast forward to today and they get in the mid 30k range.  Interesting that baseball was truly our national pass time then where today it really isn't.  But we see higher attendance today.

Now, as far as IIAC football.  When do our schools have spring practice planned???

For the record, I am not the one on the right in that opening shot.

That has something to do with it.  The expansion of cable TV service over the past 30 years has definitely helped the Cubs develop a much more "national" fan base, just as it did with the Braves.  On top of that, I'd cite three other factors:
One, the Cubs are putting better teams on the field now (6 winning seasons and 4 postseason appearances over the last 11 years) than they were in the '70s (3 winning campaigns and no playoff berths - though it was tougher to get into the playoffs at that time - over the decade)
Two, night games have made Wrigley a seller's market.  Even in the country's second largest city, there are only so many people that can attend a weekday day game, and it is a significantly lower number than the number of people who can come to night games.  After all, in the paraphrased words of Lee Elia 85% of the %^&*ing world is working and the other 15 go to day games.  More people = larger demand = higher prices.
Three, "Wrigleyville" is a much better neighborhood now than it was even 15 years ago, much less 35.  Gentrification is what the locals call it.  What it means is higher rent prices, more commercial properties, and an overabundance of asshole yuppie Big Ten grads walking around the place like their crap don't stink.  And a lower probability that you'll hear WGN's microphones pick up a police siren outside the stadium.  That, ladies and gents, is what's called a trade-off.

My wife running a daycare meant I was bannished to the upstairs...with no computer.  The plus side was I was able to watch ESPN all day...in between naps.

Any news on spring practice???  Or incoming recruits...transfers...people leaving programs...that sort of stuff???
