Had to work tonight and have to work tomorrow night, but I can't wait to go to tomorrow mornings session at the phone booth.
Anybody know where the Coe hospitality room is?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Trivia true or false?

In the 1400's, a lwas set forth in England ruled that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thjumb.  Hence, we have "the rule of thumb."

I don't know if it was the 1400's, but I do know that's where the saying came from. I have chunky fingers so I my house we have the rule of pinky. I try not to enforce it too often, but sometimes a guy just has no other choice.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

                               Trivia true or false

An Englishman in the early 1500's, trying to circumvent the "rule of thumb" used a round composite rod to render his wife extremely unattractive. Hence we have "the ugly stick."

I had a blast today at the DIII Nationals.

I was especially impressed with the amount of Wartburg fans that showed up.  I thought Coe, Cornell and Luther should be proud of their fans turn out as well.

Can't wait till next year.  I think the Cellular Center is an excellent venue for Nationals!

Congratulations Kohawks on another great season!

I love having it at the USCC.
Wartburg fans show up in droves for ras'lin
I'll never forget my first tourney in '03 and the massive wall of orange at Ohio Northern.
Some other memories from that tourney, but thats for a different venue.

Going back to that Iowa Conference expansion talk from a week or two ago.  And how the IIAC wanted any school joining to have a wrestling program...which sank Grinnell joining back in '03.

Here is how some Iowa NAIA schools did at the NAIA national wrestling tourney...keep in mind there are only 35 NAIA schools that sponsor wrestling!!!

8. Grand View
18. Briar Cliff
20. Northwestern
21. Morningside
24. Waldorf
27. William Penn

The IIAC vs. NAIA this past season

BV 31-13 Briar Cliff
Cornell 30-16 William Penn
#22 Dana 25-18 BV
NWC 30-16 BV
Morninside 31-13 BV

I also had a good time at the nationals yesterday.  I have a little difference of opinion concerning the Cellular Center.  It may be a little big for the event.  I preferred the facilities when the tournament was held in Dubuque.

We had some great seats we didn't use.  Little Warthog got the Saturday tickets when he went to the Friday session.  Saturday morning we were row two section 14 and for the evening we were row one section 28.  The first was in the heart of the Coe section the second was in the Cornell section.  We decided our orange and black shirts would blend better in the north end of the building.  We ended up sitting much higher than we needed but we had a great view of all four mats.

Did anyone else notice the Mt. Union coaches?  Those guys are way laid back.  They had a kid on mat three in the wrestle backs.  Both coaches were sort of lounging around like they were in their livingroom.  One was on his cell phone taking a call.  The other was watching the action on mat two.  Their wrestler was getting whipped and looked over to his corner.  He saw what was happening, shrugged his shoulders and apparently decided he was on his own.  We got a great laugh at that one.  We assumed football coaches at Mt. Union are a little more intense.

It was also fun watching the U of Dubuque coaches.  They were as animated as any coaching staff in the building.  They were twisting, turning, and doing everything but lay the floor to show their wrestlers what to do.  The Spartans almost overtook Cornell and Luther.  The Spartans are on to something in Dubuque.

What has happened to BV wrestling?  They were no where to be seen.  They have apparently fallen far since Coach Baxter retired.  He had them rolling for many years.  Even after Coach Miller got Wartburg on the current run, the Beavers were respectable and were always in the hunt.

BV had respectable teams the past couple years, with several All-Americans.  This year they were relatively young, some of their best wrestlers were injury-plagued, and the transition to a new coach may have had an effect as well.  Also, Al Baxter's last several teams were not very good by Iowa Conference standards.  BV improved greatly after Mark Schwab took the reins in '05, and from what I've heard Sevond Cole will be a great coach.  I think any coach would've had a tough time at BV this year, and having a first-time head coach at the reins probably didn't help.

Congrats to all you Iowans on your showing at the wrestling nationals. Geez, when five teams from the same conference make the top eleven, with four national champions, how dominating is that?

Good job!

To keep the board rolling in the off season I figured I would pose some buy/sell questions for everyone to ponder.

Buy or Sell:  " After a win less 2008 campaign the Cornell Rams will rebound and actually put up more victories in the win column vs. the moral victory column".

Who is buying this and who is selling this.
