On a side note, I am working on getting old highlight tapes posted on youtube.  Once I get them up there I will let you all know so you can waste time at work like I do.

Feel free to leave the '03 Wartburg @ Cornell game OUT of the highlight tape... or just stop it after it was 7-7.  ;)

ok, been out of this for two months or so, come back and post twice about my dog.  It has been a long winter.

Back to FB:  Dutch fans, buying or selling?  The only down team in the IIAC last year was our young Dutch. Youth plus key injuries equals 6-4.  Dutch return to normal in '09 and contend for their 30th IIAC title.

Sell, 6-4 repeat ... herd caught up.

I don't think I'm buying or selling anything at this point.  Last year I thought I had a pretty good idea which direction each team in our league was heading.  As it turned out...uh, not so much.  I'll just hold on to all my stock and hope that it grows over time with decent dividends most years.  Next year I will be happy if I can make it to more than 3 games and get some good tailgating in.  If Dubuque has a bad year on the field then at least I will be able to look back on some good eats and drinks with friends.

At this point, I think I'm planning on making at least 4 games this fall:  Both times Wartburg comes to Dubuque, Wartburg Homecoming, and probably Wartburg's home opener against Augsburg.  May also go see either Dewey or Sparty a time or two thru the season, like when Central comes to town or for the Battle for the Key City.  And I may be asked to cover any Coe/Cornell games here in Dubuque as well.

I think the Dutch have every right to expect their boys to contend for the title. They just didn't have enough experience to win a couple tough games early in the season last year. Wartburg may suffer the same fate this season early. Either way, they are back to playing each other the last game of the year in what will likely be an elimination game.

There could very well be another big game on the last day with Loras at Luther. Loras only loses about six players from a very good team. I know a couple of them were exceptional, but like Luther showed last year, One great running back doesn't make a good team. I would not be shocked if that game had a share of the title at stake.

I'll be at the Auggie game. Will probably cheer a little quieter than normal at that one, but tuition runs thicker than blood.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I am convinced coco and I both married "up".

Now to doolittles problem.  Where is the wedding and what time does it start?  The game is in Dubuque with easy access to the stadium off US20.  If the wedding starts at 1:00 and the location is within 60 miles of Dubuque, you can make the second half.

Last fall the lovely Mrs. Warthog and I attended a wedding in downtown Iowa City at 1:00 and made it to the Wartburg/Coe game before the first half ended.  You need a spouse who is willing to walk out of the church sanctuary just ahead of the bride and groom.  When the priest presented the couple, Mrs. Warthog & I jumped up and headed out.  You also need a spouse who is willing to dress for the wedding in team colors.  That wasn't much of a problem for us.  I had a black blazer and orange tie.  Mrs. Warthog went with the basic black dress and jewelry with orange stones.  Blue and white should be a snap.  You need a spouse who is willing to overdress for a football game.  Coach Willis' dad said he had never seen Wartburg fans at an away game dressed so formally for the event.  It doesn't hurt for the parents of the bride to be big football fans.  They tend to understand the early departure from the wedding and the late arrival for the dinner/reception.  In our case the parents had a son who had played at Colorado College. (Ironic this comes up in a post today)

If your logistics don't fit this plan, give me the details.  We'll get it figured out for you.  By the way, don't you have some pull at UD?  Have them change the kickoff time.  Maybe that would be a good day to use the lighting system on Chalmers Field.

That's for sure, Warty. We did marry up. I feel sorry for the guys whose wives don't appreciate football. Like you, we plan our fall social season around it. I'm picturing you and Mrs. Warthog in your finery at the game.
The DutchFan has the right idea. A wedding during football season means anniversaries at the same time. No good. The DutchFan will make someone a GOOD wife!

She might make a good wife but she surely is a crappy pool player ;)

That reminds me, a few months back, she was looking for help with ideas for a Christmas gift for someone special. Maybe she's at the point in her relationship where she'll need more help from us.

For the record, I am NOT a crappy pool player. I used to be quite good, in fact, although I am sorely out of practice these days.... the better I do at work, the more my game suffers, it seems.  ???
