I was on every campus in the IIAC and spent multiple nights visiting friends at 7 of the schools in the conference.  Wartburg was the only one that made me throw up.

Too many Prairie Fire shots at Joes?   ;)

9 kids went to Wartburg from my class.  Everyone one of them returned as the biggest prick  you had ever seen.  My uncle who went to Wartburg is a prick.

Swap Loras for Wartburg, and I have seen essentially the same thing.  Except that more of my HS classmates went to school there, with similar results.

Perhaps with $88 million in debt, a 30% drop in endowment funds (to $30 million) and a 48% discount rate on student tuition, Wartburg will have to curb its Wartburg Grants, i.e. leadership grants.

Klop,

I agree with you about how Wartburg changes someone.  There were only two of us from my graduating class (of 36) who attended Wartburg.  We both talk about and "praise" Wartburg a lot.  And I've seen it with some former co-workers who attended Wartburg.  I was the only one who was an "athlete" at Wartburg.  My former co-workers also worked at WTV and KWAR before me, while the other student who graduated high school with me was a music education major.  All aspects of the college really try to push the "take pride in your school" view, and I think it in some ways comes off as cocky and arrogant.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people out there who attended Wartburg who truly are cocky and arrogant, just like every other IIAC school and every other college across the country.

On the flip side, there are some classmates from high school who went to Wisconsin state schools (or multiple ones) and never really even talk about it or care to go back and visit or even pay attention to what is still going on with their alma mater.

So, after spending 4 years of my life (5 for S.K.) and thousands of dollars on my education and experiences at Wartburg, I would prefer the "arrogance" or pride that comes from that instead of spending 4-5 years at a state school and being "ashamed" or not caring.

I have to agree with the Wartburg guys.  I don't know exactly how it works, but all NCAA III schools have to report athlete vs. non-athletic financial aid packages.  From what I've been told previously, the NCAA can and would place a school on probation if it was lopsided.

Side note: Simpson has added men's swimming.  I have no idea why other than being able to recruit a few more students.  I guess it can't be any worse than the beatdowns the women's team endures.

Initial guesses...

1)  High retention rates among swimmers
2)  Swimmers generally have high GPA's in premium majors (liberal arts and sciences and business administration)
3)  Relative low variable cost to add the sport (and therefore more revenue in excess of expenses to go to the bottom line.)

Nice post, sorry I did not include you in my list of people I liked from Wartburg.  I figured there was someone that I did forget.  I love BV and I am proud to say that I graduated from there.  I can be a bit biased and rib other friends from other schools from time to time.  You guys do not strike me as arrogant and cocky.  You have pride in your alma matter.  That is good and its good for the school because you are more likely to donate money to the school or the athletic program.

I will disagree with cockyness and arrogance.  I do not find a place for a it anywhere in life.  Its funny that cockiest people I have met in life and the most arrogant people are going no where and no where fast.  This rubs off on other people and rubs people wrong.  Dont get be wrong if I had 20 beers in me and in a bar I could be an arrogant prick, but when it comes to day to day life, not a chance.

To maybe put the coup de grace to the scholarship thing. From what I've seen, you get what you pay for. I firmly believe that an education at any IIAC school at any cost is superior to one at a state school. Even in today's economy. a degree from an IIAC school sets a graduate apart from the pack. Add in the networking opportunites with alumni and the extra cost is worth it.

As far as Wartburg being arrogant, I'll cop to that a little. I'm proud of my kids and where they go to school. I'll tell anyone who pretends to listen about it. If I didn't feel that way something is wrong. I'm sure everyone on here feels the same about their school.

Arrogant? I ment to say A-hole!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

If I had 20 beers in me and in a bar I would either be on the floor sleeping it off or in the bathroom puking it back up.  But then again I am old and don't have the tolerance for alcohol I once had in my youth.   ;)

As for the questions Purple Heys asked earlier today...

Key Returning Players - At UD, who knows.  We have a history of not returning guys that had been starting >:(

Key Losses - Orlando Walton, DB, S, LB wherever he was needed he could play the position...Adam Burken TE/WR a bit lighter version of Heys Jr...a bit flakier version as well

Story lines for the Spring and upcoming season - Coaching change Coaching change Coaching change

Coaching changes - Out goes Brautigam...in come Zweifel...and he has a pretty good resume :o

Any other juicy news you are able to share - Former OC Jeremy Fellows is now the OC at D2 Stonehill College in Massachusetts.   Former DC Jay Davis is now the DC at D3 Morrisville State College in New York

Opinion (intelligent, dumbass or otherwise) - I am not expecting much from this season for UD...but I will be very happy if the Spartans prove me wrong.  Either way, we plan to have a good time following them this season....win or lose.  Just please let us beat Loras ;D ;D ;D

I have to disagree with you.  When it comes to arrogant pricks with Wartburg connections; it doesn't get any worse than SK, Walston Hoover, TheOne89.1, footballdaddy, and me.  Other unacceptable pieces of trash include BB, Dave D., Lance Harbor, Alfred E. and some of those obnoxious buttheads who go to football playoff games with WH.

While I'm at it, I might as well include the entire Wartburg athletic staff, all Wartburg athletes, the Wartburg choir, Bobcat, the Wartburg symphonic band, the guy who dreamed up the orange zebra, the Wartburg biology department, my father-in-law, my mother-in-law, my brother-in-law, my pastor, my pastor's kids, Mrs. Warthog's grandfather, my family's physician, most of the science teachers at MHS, our city administrator, my cardiologist at the University of Iowa, my brother, my youngest son, three of my cousins, my aunt, my uncle, Walston Hoover's in-laws, three guys from my coffee group, my insurance agent, Joe the KnightHawk, the current editor of the Wartburg Trumpet, the former editor of the Trumpet, and last but not least my wife, the lovely and talented Mrs. Warthog.

It as if you know all of us, because there isn't one decent person in the whole group.  Have a nice day. :P

NOW the IIAC has more men's teams with swimming than the BIG 12. 4-3. To bad "Big Debt" Jack didn't add swimming w/ W was under construction.

Wow, did you have one to many martinis with dinner tonight Warthog.  I make a point that I liked you guys and you never struck me as arrogant pricks and you come back with this?  Getting this worked up is hard on the ticker, maybe you should schedule a visit to your self proclaimed prick of a cardiologist to have a check up on the old life line.

By the way...your a class act.
