I will be entering my last year being in the 40's later this week. I feel young most of the time, still have scores on the course better then when I was 30 and constantly beat AEN Jr in golf too.

I feel old when I think back to my 1st day working @ Wart. Jr. was 5 weeks old and now he's ending year 3 @ WC and whenever I come across the photo of OB Attach from my wedding and he was about 3.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I'm going to post a non-football related story because I think it's quite amazing and feel extremely blessed, fortunate, & damn lucky that things are ok.  I also feel it's an important  reminder to parents with little ones to check your windows.

Last Wednesday night about 6:30, my 18 month old daughter fell 12' out my bedroom window and landed on our cement patio.  I wasn't home at the time.  My wife was putting clothes into the dresser and we had a window open to get some fresh air.

The window was open slightly  and was  literally 4-5' away from my wife.    Brooklyn saw a dog- got excited and pushed on the screen and out she went.  Wife could see her go out the corner of her eye.  When my wife looked out the window, she could see her moving slightly and crying.  She picked her up since she was kind of moving around, called 911 and the ambulance was at our house in 5 minutes.

I got the call from my wife and it went like this: "Ambulance is on it's way, Brooklyn fell out of our bedroom window" and i could hear her crying in the background.
We'd only been in this home for 10 days when this transpired and it took me a minute to realize that my bedroom was on the 2nd floor.  Luckily I was only 15 minutes from home(normal driving time) and made it home in about 10.

They took her to Children's Mercy and they immediately performend  a CT Scan on her head and took x-rays of her femur & hip.  Amazingly, they were all negative and there was no internal bleeding.
She landed just perfect on her side and only had a few small bumps on her head.  She didn't even really bruise too badly.  She does have a limp still but that's minor to what could have happened. (We are taking her in Thursday morning for a check-up)
We were even  home by 11:30 that night.  I can't count how many times the EMT's, cops, Dr, nurses, neighbors told us how lucky we were/are.   Apparently, any fall for a child that is 3x their height is considered a "major trauma fall"  Brooklyn's fall was 4x her height.

I had a TV Station at my home Friday night to do a story but declined.  Part of me wanted to share it as a reminder to all parents about what can happen but I decided against it. Wife & I didn't want to go on camera.

Kids are tough and made out of rubber I'm fairly certain.
It's amazing how many other crazy  stories people have shared with me about their children when they hear mine.

Sorry haven't been on very much lately.  This is truly a blessing.  Dave I am so happy for you that it your baby is ok.  This does make you step back and be thankful for blessings.

Central still shows TBA for their Sept. 12th game this year.

Do they have a game scheduled and just haven't updated their website???

Are the Dutch still searching for a game for that date???

What are the odds they can still find a game for that date???

Are they staring down the barrel of 9 game season???

Does TBA stand for some obscure school I have never heard of...Texas Bohemian Academy???

As far as I know they are still looking for a game for that week.

After your "kickoff is 18 weeks away" announcement...maybe most of us on here have been busy stockpiling tailgating supplies ;D

I've been busy handicapping and doing my mint julep prep work.  The start of Triple Crown season is my second favorite time of the year right behind the start of football season.

Quick Happy Birthday shout out to AEN.  I bet he won't be checking the posts today, since I'm sure he is out on the links.

Glad to see I won't be the only one in Iowa drinking Mint Julips tomorrow ;D

My mother, being from Louisville, just called me to make sure I could make them the proper way.  I don't think she believed my assurances that I do know how to make them properly.  I am sure by 4pm tomorrow I really won't care which horse wins...but I will be feeling good!!!

Keep in mind that properly for me is by my mothers family recipe...as with most things in the South, everyone has their own recipe which is the proper way to make it.

You will need...

Mint leaves
Bourbon...Early Times according to my mom, but for me any bourbon is fine...and I did say bourbon.
Sugar
Water
Shaved ice is preferred...you can used crushed ice...please, no ice cubes!!!
Silver or pewter cups if you are so inclined...highball or cocktail glasses also work fine for us yankees.

Keep in mind I eyeball things when making drinks...measurements are laughed at in my family...

mix equal parts sugar and water...probably 2 cups of each...4 cups of each if you have friends, and crush up 2 or 3 mint leaves into this mixture and heat on the stove to make a syrup.  Make your syrup the night before for added flavor (I can't back that up...but my parents swear by it)... or, after your syrup cools, pour a bit into the bottom of a glass...hmm, dime sized high if that makes sense, depends on how minty sweet you like it.  Then fill...FILL your cup with shaved or crushed ice.  Add a mint leaf to the edge of the glass.  Add your bourbon...to the rim.  Put in a straw...should only just reach above the rim...this way you take in the aroma.

Usually a good idea to not drink more than 2 of these...unless you are a former O-lineman...then perhaps you can handle more.  The drinking of more than 2 of these can lead to you not remembering the Kentucky Derby.  It's also a good idea to eat all day long on Kentucky Derby day...think of it as one really long football tailgate.

DBQ1965...does today make it 17 weeks until kickoff???  or does today make it 18 weeks???  I'm confused...again.

Fannosaurus Rex

Make a simple bar syrup.  I use a cup of my favorite bottled water with a cup of granulated sugar and a large bouquet of fresh mint.  I grow my own wintergreen on my window sill.  Let it boil gentley for five minutes then put it in the fridge.  I also use the bottled water to make a bunch of ice.   Crush the ice and fill a highball glass.  Pour a tablespoon of syrup and two ounces of your favorite Kentucky bourbon over the ice and stir.  Garnish with a sprig of mint and hold it aloft when the horses come on the track and the band and chorus do "My Old Kentucky Home."  Wait a minute I have to go dry my eyes.  The more traditional way is to crush up the mint and sugar in the bottom of the glass and then pour in the bourbon.  I prefer mine.

Eraly Times is the only proper and official bourbon for a julep. Like making a martini without Gordon's, it's just not done.

I'm confused most of the time.  As near as I can count, kick-off is 126 days away.
