Nice stuff as usual DD.  Here is a question for the IIAC faithful to get the subject on football.  Which school has the toughest non con schedule?  Then rank them from top to bottom.

Willie:

I went back through some of your past postings.  It appears this Wartburg dislike is more than a recent arbitration.  If you don't mind I would like to get an understanding what the problem is.  You threw out a broad statement that the Knights cheat and that has lead to the success over the last 15 years or so.  I've been fairly close to the Knights since the 1996 football season and I've never seen or heard of anything that would lead me to believe they are pulling any shenanigans.  Wartburg has had some success athletically over this time, but I can assure you that the success of Wartburg has transcended athletics to include both the fine arts and academics.  Feel free to send me a personal message if you have any questions.  If I don't have the answer I'll find it for you.

By the way; in case you have missed my postings over the past several years you may be surprised to know that my second favorite IIAC school is the U of Dubuque.  Growing up in NE Iowa I spent a considerable amount of time at various UD events with my mother, a UD graduate.

Based on last years record because I have no idea what these teams bring to the table besides conference prestige I would say:
Central
Coe
Wartburg
Loras
Simpson
Luther
BV
Cornell
UD

I know of one case where a kid got in because he was an athlete. It has made me suspect some of the selection processes Wartburg may use...

Show me proof that that has NEVER happened at an IIAC school and I will never post here again.

Of course you can't. But if it's so prevalent at Wartburg, wouldn't someone complained to the NCAA? After all these years of "cheating", wouldn't someone who got shafted made a formal complaint somewhere? I say it goes on everywhere, even at Central.

I guess it's fair to say that the Kochicks give the Kohawks Kohickies on their Koneckies.   8)

To DF2K4's question...last year is last year.

Teams' losses to graduation will play a relative role in the returning strength.

On the surface, Monmouth could be a load...I think I read they have many returnees.

Can WB finally beat the Auggies?

FBdaddy.....I am sure there is a JUCO closer to their home.  The point is they would only go JUCO if they had a legit shot at getting a scholy after two years.  They are not on that level thus they have to fly 1500 miles to be the doormat of the IIAC.

WillieU...Your beloved Spartys might have beaten my Beavers one in 10 years.  I believe the 6-3 campaign that had everyone thinking UD was back, one of your losses was to the BeavCrew.  The amount of players coming from Florida was a direct result of the kids in Iowa having MUCH better d3 options in the state of Iowa than PukeD.  So the coaching staff responded by going out of state.  Why do you BV has expanded their recruiting territory outside the state of Iowa?

Dog...WillieU is right you never take a stance on anything expect running to the market or the apple orchard or telling us how your wife basically has you in handcuffs.  Like Pat Riley said there comes a time in every mans life that he has to take a stand for what he believes in.

The whole Wartburg thing is SOOOO overplayed.  Why doesn't everyone just go out and beat the snot out of them this year so that we can say hey at least we beat the cheaters.  I get tired of people crying wolf.  Christ that is like saying that Central is full of bible beaters.  That is just not a true statement.

The fact is UD has a coach that was a reject by a half a dozen schools yet he is hailed has the second coming of Jesus Christ on this board.  Congratulations, I hope hes the man.  Prove us wrong.

The next thing you will see is ShowMe showing up again to run his mouth and spread his creamy blather all of this board.

Klop, you missed my point. My point is that if you wre going to have to pay $20k a year to go to school and play football, would you leave warm, sunny, Florida for cold, snowy, less diverse Iowa? There are probably dozens of options much closer to home. Now if you had to pay $5k with a "music" scholarship, you might make the trip.

I said my peace for what I wanted for UD.  Willie jumped my butt by saying these things had already happened.  That still doesn't change my wishes for my school.  Brautigam took a program that had retention issues and began to bring in kids that stuck around for 4 years.  I hope that continues under Zweifel.  Over the last 10 years UD has done a fantastic job of bringing in donation money.  My wish is this continues over time.  Over the last 15 years UD has invested in improving their campus facilities and their academic programs.  My wish is they keep this up in the future.  Over the last 15 years the UD sports programs have gone from being a joke to the beginings of getting league wide respect.  My hope is this continues.  I would love to see conference championships and national tourney appearances.  But, I won't be upset and think UD has underperformed if our football team doesn't win 29 conference titles over the next 50 seasons.  I just want to see them win games.  If that is not taking a stand or being a big enough fan then so be it.

I have defended UD on here over the years, the fact is, UD doesn't need defending on here as much as they used to because most can see for themselves the improvements UD has had.

As far as trashing other schools, I don't see the need for it.  As far as the IIAC, I am a fan of UD, I want to see them succeed, but that doesn't mean I don't like the other schools in our conference.  My children could get good educations at all of them.  I don't have much love for Loras, but I like what they have done for their campus in recent years.  It's hard to see Wartburg have success in just about EVERY sport.  But I don't think they are cheating to get there.  My concern for Wartburg is that their building spree has been built upon borrowed money.  That could come back to hurt them, like it has for most of this country.  If borrowing all this money does end up hurting Wartburg it will mean that they won't be able to give out as much aid money.  Therefore leading to some athletes exploring other school options.
