Kohawk Remedy

Again, I realize that this is a football site; but wanted to report that:

Coe wins 4-2 over Gustavus Adolphus!  They play Messiah at 1:30pm CST in the chapionship and would have to beat them twice in order win the world series.  Hopefully they have better luck than they did yesterday!  Go Kohawks!

Way to go, Kohawk Women! Keep it up! (Because, you know, I'm sure they are all reading the football board right now....)
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

Gustavus had the bases juiced with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but popped out to the pitcher to end the game.

Way to go Kohawks!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

It looks like Messiah is ahead 1 - 0 in the 6th. Still time.

Not picking any sides here but any kid that goes to a D3 school just to play a sport seems to indicate a family that has its priorities and expectations way out of whack...either that or college affordability is not an issue.

With the minute (that's pronounced MY-noot, Coe fans) possibility of advancing to the pro level from any given D3 sport, if one is not focused on their education, then IMHO, one is throwing 4 years of life away in addition to about $100k.

Now Mr. Jackson proves that there is always a chance at the next level; but I bet he values his degree from Coe more than his former D1 counterparts on the Bills....errr...to the extent that one could actually value a Coe "education"  (j/k)   :D

Seriously, no matter what IIAC affiliated school one selects, the opportunity for a fine and respected (by employers) education is THE opportunity for a kid.  Playing football, or any other sport, adds to the quality of that full educational experience opportunity.

On the flip side...I don't see why any kid that is able wouldn't compete in a sport at the D3 level.  To me, there is nothing like the comeraderie of being on an athletic team.

Maybe it's my own bias being involved in athletics through college.  I was never in the band or drama department or on the chess club, so I have no perspective in that...but there is something about working and sweating together and achieving (or even nearly achieving) that early season goal that is special and an education itself.

Ditto.
Go Coe softball!

I modified your statement a a little, Heys. I also agree with your subsequent post about competing in athletics, but I think students today get that feeling of camaraderie from other activities, too.

Kohawks lose to Messiah 2-0

Coe is 2009 Softball runner-up.

Not too shabby out of a gazillion teams.
Congrats to them on a fine season.

Congrats on Runner-Up Lady Kohawks! That Messiah pitcher is a stud, I wasn't able to watch the game today but I'm sure she will have one hell of a career since she is only a freshman.  However, Coe has a pretty good freshman pitcher on their team as well, Simon from Riverside.  Coe had a teriffic post-season, they finished the regular season 3rd in the conference and as a  3rd seed they won the conference tournament to gain the automatic bid and never quit as they had to beat illinois wesleyan twice in the regional to make it to the College World Series.  For them to compete against the top tier of their sport and end up with 2nd place is probably more than any of them expected going into the season.  Congrats on a great season!
